Dating ball courts: new excavations in the surrounding area of Uaxactun.

After the use of LiDAR in July 2016, thanks to collaboration of the Proyecto Arqueológico Regional
Uaxactun with Pacunam LiDAR Initiative, it was possible to register new sites with new settlement
patterns. In particular, four possible ball courts were detected in four different satellite sites of
Uaxactun: Buena Vista, Atalaya, Sakapuk and Sunsal. Between July and August 2017 was possible
to realize surveys in the centre of these ball courts, in order to understand their chronology and
confirm if these satellite sites had their own ball court in times corresponding to crisis period in
Uaxactun. The excavations helped to recollected important data, which may allow a better
interpretation regarding the political relations between Uaxactun and its satellite sites.
