1.Hackman identified that the elements of successful teamwork are:
creating small team size
ensuring that members in a team are consistent and not changing frequently
positive and courageous leaders who exert authority to keep team members in
the right track
 establishing group responsibilities and rewards

The elements identified above are important for effective performance of a

team. Firstly, small size team is believed to function better due to development
of coordination and cohesion among the fewer team members, which are likely
to reduce if the team is too large. Secondly, consistency in the members of the
team implies that members have experience of working with each other so they
are likely to take less time in developing synergy and performing effectively.
Furthermore, a team needs to have a positive leader who is able to organize
their efforts and ensure that team members are not working against the team
goals. Finally, a team needs to identify the goals the strength and skills of each
members and their individual and group accountability as well as appraise the
contribution of each member and reward the team for performance.

2. Other important elements of effective team performance include having

adequate resources, assessing personality of members and managing conflict
levels. In the context where a team is performing, it is important to ensure
adequate resources so that their activities are not impeded by scarcity.
Assessing the personality of team members is also important. Members who
have similar personalities like high conscientiousness or openness to experience
are likely to support each other. Team may experience conflict when they
perform non-routine jobs. Thus they need to discuss promptly to resolve
problems and maintain the team synergy.

3. In assembling the team members, I would look for members who have skills
valuable to the goal (like marketing skills, market predicting skills etc) and
whose personality traits make them relatively better at work in a team to keep
its size small. Then I would ensure that the members are fully knowledgeable of
the goal of the team and assign each member roles according to their specialties
as well as disclose reward of the team to motivate members. By doing so they
would be aware of the responsibilities they should take. I would keep conflicts
in check so as to also prevent any member going against team performance.
