- Archipelagic Doctrine

- The islands and waters of the Archipelago will constitute as one

geographical unit. As if the waters and islands constitute as one landmass
with waters. It does not matter how many islands; it is treated as one
geographical unit only.

Baseline
- An imaginary line that will delineate what we call as internal waters
(national, inland, archipelagic waters) from different maritime zones provided
for under UNCLOS
Kinds:
1. Normal Baseline Method- delineate baseline using the low-water mark.

- Low-water mark is the lowest point of the waters or the sea in a perfectly
defined coast in defining the baseline.

Note: in the Philippines, it is not possible because if the coast and

beaches were examined, they are not perfect. Some of the coasts are
ragged, surrounded by mountains before the sea.

2. Straight Baseline Method- consider the outer most points of the islands
and connect it with straight baselines.

- This method is what is used to measure the Philippine Archipelago.
