EXAMINATION for Grant of Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) as “Boiler Operation Engineer

(BoE)” under the Boilers Act,1923
As per the Boiler Operation Rules, 2021 framed under the Boilers Act,1923, a provision has been made for conducting
examination for Grant of Certificate of Proficiency (CoP) as “Boiler Operation Engineer (BoE)” by the Central Government
also in addition to examination conducted by States in their territories, in which candidates from all the states/Union
Territories can appear. Government of India has authorized National Productivity Council (NPC) to conduct this
examination;

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA FOR APPEARING FOR BoE EXAMINATION:

Age, qualifications and experience. – A candidate for a certificate of proficiency as a Boiler Operation Engineer
shall not be admitted to the examination unless he/she ─
(a) has completed the age of twenty-three years;
(b) possesses a degree or diploma in Mechanical or Electrical or Chemical or Power Plant or Production or
Instrumentation Engineering from a recognized university or Institution;
(c) has served for not less than two years in case of degree holders and for five years in case of diploma holders in the
operation or maintenance of a boiler of not less than one thousand square meters heating surface or a Battery of
boilers of not less than one thousand square meters heating surface in aggregate out of which at least one boiler of
not less than five hundred square meters heating surface:
Provided that in case of a degree holder or post graduate diploma holder from a National Power Training Institute,
the requirement of minimum working experience shall be one year.
Note:(1) Any integration or combination with the above-mentioned branches of Engineering e.g. Electrical and Electronics,
Electrical and Instrumentation etc. shall also be allowed.
(2) Applicants employed in Central Govt. /State Govt. /PSUs must inform their employer in writing before applying.
(3) Training period will not be considered as experience.
(4) Candidates fulfilling the eligibility criteria need only apply.

Examination Fee:
Rs.2360/-(Rupees Two Thousand Three Hundred and Sixty only) inclusive of GST @18%. However, GST rate will be
applicable based on notification by GOI at the time of payment. Fee once paid is not refundable or adjustable under any
circumstances in future.

Written Examination Dates: 11th & 12th December 2021 (Saturday & Sunday)
Proposed Examination Centres: Twenty-two (22) cities namely, Bengaluru, Bhubaneswar, Chandigarh, Chennai, Dehradun,
Gandhinagar, Guwahati, Hyderabad, Indore, Jaipur, Jamshedpur, Jammu, Kanpur, Kolkata, Ludhiana, Nagpur, NCT
of Delhi, Patna, Raipur, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy and Visakhapatnam.
Written Examination shall contain the following papers:
Boilers to cover the syllabus stipulated under sub-rule (a) to sub-rule (h) of rule 31 of Boiler 3 Hours
Paper - 1
Operation Rules, 2021 Duration
Boilers to cover the syllabus stipulated under sub-rule (i) to sub- rule (p) of rule 31 of Boiler 3 Hours
Paper - 2
Operation Rules, 2021 Duration
3 Hours
Paper - 3 Written drawing examination covering sub-rule (q) of rule 31 of Boiler Operation Rules, 2021

Viva – Voce (Oral examination):

Qualified candidates in the written examination shall be called for Oral Examination (Viva Voce).
Proposed Viva-Voce (Oral Examination) Centres: Thirteen centers namely, Hyderabad, Patna, Gandhinagar, Chandigarh, Bengaluru,
Nagpur, Bhubaneswar, Jaipur, Chennai, Kanpur, Kolkata, Guwahati and NCT of Delhi

Examination fee should be paid by online method while filling the application.
