Abortion is a procedure done either by use of medicine or surgery to end a pregnancy by

removing the embryo or fetus and placenta from the uterus. Abortion is the most controversial

issue in today’s society that agree or disagree on taking an innocent life away. I don’t believe in

abortion, even though women now have the legal right to do whatever they want with their

bodies, but the fetus, being a living individual possess different DNA that differs from that of the

mother. This is why the deliberation of abortion is not applicable since the body of the mother is

different from that of her baby’s or rather, fetus. When it comes to abortion due to medical

reasons, whereby for instance the mother’s life is in danger, then that should be a choice of the

mother, family and doctor. As stated, the mother and the unborn baby are two separated living

organisms, but under these scenario, there’s difficulty as a family member has to choose on

whom to save between the mother and the child falling into dangerous situation. Inattentive of

the choice, one has to be killed. This is totally different from abortion on demand which involves

killing of the unborn at her own request.

According to the Unborn Victims of Violence Act, the embryo or fetus is recognized as a legal

victim, meaning if you go through abortion it’s considered as murder, and thus legal action opt to

be taken for killing or attempting to kill an unborn baby. I’m against abortion because of my

religion as it’s forbidden in the sixth commandment of the bible that states “Thou shalt not kill”

(Exodus 20.13) Crossclaim there are those who believe that abortion is right and that fetus or

embryos aren’t considered as human beings. Fetuses are considered as human beings according

to the Fetal Rights and have the right to be healthy.

Adoption is another option opposed to adoption, whereby mothers have to through the

pregnancy; the unwanted child is then given to someone who is willing to love and take care of

them unconditionally.
Abortion as a result of rape is another controversial topic. Babies born as a result of rape are not

intended as it’s a forced act. A good percentage of people would support this act in this case but

is it really okay? There’s a Christian group, Pro-life, that goes against abortion practices and they

believe that the unborn deserve life and that they shouldn’t be castigated for the wrong act.

According to Pro-choice, women have the freedom to choose abortion. The group believes that

the act is a personal choice and they think that the illegality of abortion will increase the rate of

self abortions or worse, the mother may kill the baby, as some young mothers have. The group

believes that the fetus is a ‘a mass of tissue’ and not human till given birth to. They think

reduction of unwanted children will reduce the rate of child abuse and overpopulation. But since

when does a person’s life depend on the people’s population?

In conclusion, abortion should be illegal as every child, including the unborn fetus have the right

to life and it shouldn’t be an option. If the rate of abortion increases, then many families who

cant conceive will not have the opportunity to adopt and there will be a decrease in the number

of children.
