WINTER 2021

WOMEN WITH A FOCUS

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR GRADUATES:SARA, ALEX, LARA,

MARISSA, NADA, SHIVANI, AND KATE!
We are proud to have seven of our sisters move into a new chapter in their lives. They have supported
and guided the younger active sisters by being great role models for us to follow. We wish you the
best of luck and thank you for paving the way!!

A WORD FROM OUR GRADUATES:

Sara Al-Delahmawi: “My favorite memory with AOE is definitely
Day Away Fall 2019! That day was my first time experiencing Day
Away as an Active Member instead of a Candidate. I also got my
amazing little, Lara, that day which was super fun! Something I'll
miss the most about the sorority is the Sisterhood events that are
held every semester. After graduation, I will be starting my job at ZF
Group! What excites me most about the future is its uncertainty;
anything and everything is possible!”

1
Alex Lazaros: “My fondest memories of the sorority involve just
casually hanging out with my fellow sisters, unplanned, before or
after meetings or just at random times when we see each other in
the UC. I’ll miss that, and I’ll also miss getting to know the new
sisters/candidates each semester. After graduation, I’ll be working
full time as a Research and Development Engineer at Toyoda Gosei.
I’m excited to no longer have to study for exams, lol. And to see
what new opportunities may be ahead of me!”

Lara Harp: “My fondest memory was my first (and only) Day Away
when I was a candidate. It was such a fun time where I was able
to create everlasting bonds with my sisters. The thing I will miss
most about the sorority are the traditions (candidacy, meeting,
and all other events). With all of the things that I've learned in
the past four years, I'm really excited to finally step into the real
world and create the future I've always wanted.”

2
Marissa Mason: “My fondest memory is our first buds thorns and
roses. We were still a small and we all got to bond over our troubles
and excitement. I'm going to miss the sisterhood, but I know the
friends I've made will still be there for me. I got a temporary job at
RHB Laboratories and will be looking for a job in engineering in about
a year. I'm excited for all the new places I'll see and the new people
and friends I'll meet!”

Shivani Patel: “My fondest memories are spending time outside of

school with the other sisters. I'll definitely miss seeing them on a
daily basis, especially since the pandemic cut it short for all of us. In
the Fall, I start my master's in Biomedical Engineering at UofM Ann
Arbor. I'm really excited about becoming a professional engineer and
helping out as many people as I can during my working career!”

3
Katharina Grenn: “My fondest memory of the sorority is meeting
some of my lifelong best friends. From hanging out to grabbing food
to overall sisterhood I'm going to miss it IMMENSELY. I loved my time
and still hang out on the regular with sisters! My post graduation
plans include starting a job with the Defense Contractor DCS
Corporation as a mechanical engineer and a Summer Fellowship
sponsored by Pentagon through the National Security Innovation
Network ( NSIN) to work with the Naval Base Corona at the Fallbrook
Detachment in California. In the Fall or Winter Semester I plan on
hopefully attending Grad school. I am most excited for starting my
career and seeing what my path is. Its been a long 5 years of
undergrad as a dual Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering
Major so I'm looking to travel!”

Nada Khazaal: “I really enjoyed Day Away and bonding with my

candidate class. I’m currently working as a dental assistant and
applying to dental schools. I’m most excited about opening up my
own dental practice.”

mountain is waiting. So… Get on your way!” – Dr. Seuss

RECRUITMENT WEEK
We had a successful Recruitment Week despite all events being online. We can thank our amazing
Vice President, Shivani Patel, for her amazing work. The events varied from watching movies, playing
games, and arts and crafts.

ACTIVE INITIATION: WELCOME BETA PI!
Active Initiation went well, and we are excited to welcome Yara and Paola, our two new sisters!!

A WORD FROM OUR NEW SISTERS:

Paola "Khaleesi" Xhelaj: “My favorite part of this semester was
the candidacy process. I loved seeing Alex every week (even
though it was through Zoom). To be honest, I did have a difficult
semester but in the end it turned out well. Hopefully we go back
in person this fall, that’s all I have to say for this virtual
experience. Happy to be an active now! <3<3”
(Alex was our MED this semester!)

6
Yara "Hurriyah" Elayyan: “As this was my first semester with
AOE, of course my favorite part was the candidate process. I
learned so much about all aspects of the sorority and all of
the members. Everyone was extremely welcoming and I’m
happy to be an active now! This semester wasn’t too bad in
terms of classes as I think I’ve gotten somewhat used to
everything being online. However, I definitely would love to
be back on campus and would love to see everyone’s faces!”
