Introduction

Today the world is heading towards 21st Century Learning. The use of technology
as the main network to obtain any new information and knowledge has a great impact on
education. Learning nowadays is not only concentrated in the classroom and teacher-
centred but more emphasized outside of the classroom as well as student-centred.
Therefore, we need to strengthen ourselves with the knowledge and skills required by this
era of advanced technology.
In this assignment, it will be stated the interconnection of this new teaching and
learning along with the Global Citizenship Education accordingly with the three core
conceptual dimensions – cognitive, socio-emotional and behavioural skills. Moreover,
learning take place through Global Citizenship Education and the lesson that can be
applied to avail with environmental issue.

Environmental Sustainability (Sustainable Waste Management)

Following above matters, one of the issues that needs our attention is
environmental sustainability. Due to the word itself, sustainability meaning that it’s a
process to maintain and care about one particular living and non-living things
development until it reaches the maximum period quality of life. Thus, environmental
sustainability refers to environment of the earth that remains free from the any element of
environmental damage.
Therefore, the varying of this concept about environmental issues, I would like to
share my selected concern, which focuses on the waste management. The view on this
waste management always relate to sustainable development display on how economic
development efforts that demand a balance of environmental care mainly related to the
exploitation of resources and environmental protection after resources exploited.
The most basic waste management that easy for us to understand about is the
recycle, reduce, repair and reuse. This waste management process teaches us on how we
manage the waste from the beginning to the final use of that particular product. It is
including collecting, transporting, treatment and monitoring on how to dispose it in the
end in a proper way. However, some of the waste item are interrelate with the law and

regulations about throwing waste and the correct procedure to recycle or dismiss the
items.
The main reason why we must practice this waste management is because our
world that we occupy right now is unhealthy. Every year the percentage of waste in
garbage disposal increased. Sooner or later we might out of the place for our garbage
disposal. Even now we can see air and water pollution due to this lack of attention to
environmental well-being. By learning on how to handle waste properly, we can help
make different to our world. Beside it will give us the better, fresh and healthy
environment. A clean environment ensures we are free from any disease. If we are all
trained and taught how to manage the waste and also the proper way of disposal
indirectly, we also help reduce waste in landfills.

Global Citizenship Education (GCED) aim is a livelong transformative leaning,
may it be traditional or modern teaching that apply in the school learning process. It
focuses empower learners to play an active role in facing and control global challenges
and to be motivated on contribute peace, open-minded, sympathetic in this world.

In addition to this, there’s a three main conceptual dimension which are cognitive,
socio-emotional and behavioural. We thrive to give our generation knowledgeable, have
the sense to think critically and creative. To grow them with a better leadership skill and
strong to be able to communicate effectively globally. Every each of them, will learn to
apply the values, ethics and sense of responsibility as an active citizen. Have a good
decision-making skill for themselves, family and country as well to overcome future
challenges. Even so, the syllabus has been done. They can learn it through in existing

subject and interrelate it in the matter of Human Rights, Conflict and Peace Building,
Respect the Diversity, Globalization and Social Justice and Sustainability.

Sustainable Waste Management

The climate warming, population growing, pollution is affecting the ecosystem


and harm human health. We in this world where we are vulnerable to global environment
change. There are various actions and efforts in facing and overcoming these global
challenges.

million unrecycled waste has been produced and this figure is expected to increase by the
year 2050. In this regard, from my understanding of this pollution not only threaten
marine life and ecosystem but also will give a negative impact on human life.
However, no matter how we want to curb this pollution, it will still happen due to
the needs of consumers or factories. So, in this video it leads us to change our view on
this junk. The suggestion introduces us how to solve this problem, one is through art. In
this video has featured some of the artwork that has been made from rubbish such as
plastic utensils and metals into sculptures and clothes thrown in modelling art. In
conclusion, such video and actions are good recommendation to raise awareness and a
solution for this waste management.

Benefit To The Society To Resolve The Environmental Issue


In this new era of life, the activity of exploiting environmental resources
involving deforestation or the reopening of forest areas poses a serious threat. Due to the
demand for technology as it is today that is growing rapidly every day, development in
terms of infrastructure are increasingly being implement plus any other development just
to fulfill the well-being of the population. Without realizing it, the need for infrastructure
development invites to the problem of destruction of nature. This causes the life of flora

and fauna to be affected, and the pollution on earth. For an example flash floods,
landslides and the waste cause the water / river pollution. Its harm the precious of nature
becoming extinct.
Now our world has change, not only in one street, area, village, or state but it’s
globally. Undoubtedly, it changes through development, environmentally, everyday life
or even a rapidly evolving creation. But through Global Citizenship Education (GCED),
it’s an instrument for them to equip themselves with the skills and knowledge needed to
face the challenges of this century. The role of this Global Citizenship Education
(GCED), consists of the 3 key conceptual dimensions. First, the Cognitive, second the
Socio-emotional and third the Behavioural. They will learn to improve the relevant skills
and knowledge to face those challenges. Additionally, it’s consisted of human rights
education, peace education, education for sustainable and other relate education fields
which will mold them into a responsible and active global citizen.
As an effort to achieve this inspiration was through implementation in education.
Our education system is known as globally mechanism to provide knowledge and skills
to our generations. Definitely the process of this implementation of education
transformation requires an approach and strategies to be able to own and master the
skills.
Hence, on the topic of waste management through how this implement on the
revolution of sustainability. Waste management simple known as on how we manage the
waste without destructing the environment. Moreover, waste management is not
something new for us but the process does. The ways on how to manage the waste has
different processes for now a day. Indeed, the objective still the same which is to ensure
we play the role of managing prudently and conserve existing resources for the next
generation globally. Such as recycling is an activity we are used to hearing but there is a
various ways to recycle it too. My favourite on this topic was to turn the waste
management into art. It’s a form of recycle or known as upcycle and it does impact or
benefit in resolving environmental issues creatively. In a way it’s gives a way for the junk
to obtain new purpose. We are not re-using it like we do with other plastic or metal, but
we are giving it another purpose not to be used, but to observed and seen as a piece of art.

This will indirectly impact awareness of waste management and teaches us the value of
recycling as well as art appreciation.
In connection with above matters, to aiming the reducing of the burden on the
environment, it can be done by balance it with the three main conceptual dimensions
while maintaining the world and economic growth. It is requiring our participation to
understand that this environmental issue is not only happens where we standing right now
but beyond the national borders.
Clearly this theorist has been drilling in school, with the right teaching material,
we learn the global issues and give awareness on how this impact our world. Whereby
educating citizen on this awareness, we need to come together and work for a solution
then action synchronized. With this knowledge on the requirement the active involvement
in activities of global issues, in fact, when they learn to act respectful in this world of
diversity, connect with each other despite the race, gender or races, they will gain to live
together in peace. The sense of belonging will empower them when they have the same
concept of thinking and acting as a global citizen.
Going to forward this global agenda concern in environmental issue, to achieve

students' interpersonal and intellectual skills. In this regard, also to encourage students to
engage in this activity is by the evaluation from the teacher, they will select the best work
to display on the school open day and also they got the opportunity to share the idea to
other districts such as the selected school in Afghanistan and Pakistan.
Although the sharing only happens in between districts but it is enough to provide
exposure and knowledge related to global learning in the objective of Global Citizenship
Education. That is to share these ideas to others so the other districts will also apply this
noble practice to jointly protect the beloved earth.

Conclusion and Reflection


As a whole, Global Citizenship Education (GCED) is practically for the student to
learn about global issues in many forms. To attend on this development, it is requiring
participants to participate in this progress and apply it explicitly. This Global Citizenship
Education (GCED) plays an important role and at the same time it’s emphasis on human
rights, peace education, education and sustainability not only locally but as globally.
Global Citizenship Education (GCED) was introduced and has been incorporated
into the core of learning as our earth is accelerating with development and thus has
caused our earth to become weak due to pollution. That is why this Global Citizenship
Education (GCED) concept is more focused on environmental restoration and awareness
by involves the three (3) dimensions in global citizenship education.
As a result, in this assignment I have chosen waste management as an example of
delivery the related of the concept of Global Citizenship Education (GCED). My purpose
in choosing this pollution is because I find this pollution is the most obvious, we can see
around us. In this regard, with this era of progress we can see how creative people can
contribute ideas in this solution through art. While in school level, this subject can also
indirectly train students to be more concerned about this issue. Environmental awareness

is a value which is important to be planted in each individual for producing a citizen who
not only understand, concern for management and environmental pollution around the
world. But individually who have been nurtured and cultivated with the values of loving
the environment will be more sensitive to environmental issues. With this, he became a
fortress of influence material value as well as indirectly can act as an example to guide
others to love the environment. Education through practice has more positive impact than
knowledge-based education alone. Citizens who responsible for preserving and
conserving nature around ensuring a comfortable life later day.
My reflection on this task is based on the tasked given and information that I have
read then I would like to conclude that context of Global Citizenship Education (GCED)
is an effort in the framework of preparation for citizens of the world with global skills
based on the cultural values of the nation. I personally prefer this is not only treated as a
standard subject in school but also as educational activities outside of the school.
Citizenship Education implicitly observed to build character in accordance with in the
process is cannot stand alone. We must work globally.
However, before we move globally, for the beginning this concept we can apply
around us. Especially oneself, family members, neighbors, friends and our society.
Because this component points to the characteristics of personal character and societal
character required. These components include personal character traits such as moral
responsibility, self-discipline, and respect for values and the dignity of humanity.
Characteristics of community character include, among others, community spirit,
courtesy, respect for the rules or law, critical thinking, and compromising is essential for
the success of democracy. Through the sharing of information among our own
community will open their minds about the importance of living sustainable life in order
to preserve nature around.
