Learning is a treasure that will follow its owner everywhere. Discovering things is a
significant thing for a young learner to strengthen his academic skills and personal capabilities
and strengths. By this current situation of time, we have protected the K-12 Basic Education
Curriculum. We have reinforced vital and critical services to various people after having the old
curriculum. In the first place, what is K-12 Education really all about? Is it essential for all
Filipino students? What does K-12 scheme really has to offer to Filipino students? A question
that already has its answers, but is also repeatedly stated over and over for clarifications and
validations. The new K-12 curriculum guide requires all Filipino students to spend one year
entering Kindergarten, six years of Elementary level (Grades 1 to 6), four years of Junior High
School (Grades 7 to 10), and two years of Senior High School (Grades 11 to 12). Preceding the
implementation of the K-12 curriculum guide, the Philippines was part of the three countries in
the world and the only one in Asia that still had only ten years of basic education. The longer
educational cycle of the K-12 curriculum is seen as critical in giving Filipino students a higher
quality of education. By this, we can tell that regardless of the time spent on students’ schooling,
K-12 Basic Education Program is essential to Filipino students.
extent of absorbing and synthesizing information. Another important factor of this program is it
improves the production of students’ efficiency to connect to the workforce. By this time,
students are being taught on how to manage their time properly and rightly, with their given
performance tasks and other school projects and portfolios. Not only this, K-12 also enables
learners to make certain decisions on their own. It tends to make students prepared for their
college life. Another good thing about the program is that, one has already equipped his skills
through electives that have been taught to him in specific subjects. In line with this, the system
also aspires to boost and enhance the Filipino students’ deep mathematical and scientific
capabilities. It aims to dig deeper to a learner’s knowledge in these fields and make them more
proficient and skilled involving problems regarding the two subjects. One of the main objectives
of this curriculum is to generate future innovators that would lead every nation into the bound of
reaching success. Another target of the said program is to fulfill and satisfy the standards
required for professional workers who would want to work abroad. In our current situation,
students are now being taught on these professional acts, such as the improvement of having
such linguistic competence. K-12 redirect today’s generation to a concise and readily developed
path of learning. With this, it increases students’ possibility of completing and finishing formal
education.
However, it is certain and undeniable that there are these problems that arise and continue
to become apparent as we see the program, which could include: lack of budget, insufficient
classrooms, school supplies, and the unemployment of some teachers. But today, regarding the
budget, and things that follow, the government has already took place and worked on it. Another
opposing idea to this issue is, thought it has been implemented already, some of the students’
parents are still complaining about it, especially people who belong from the poor sectors of the
community. This factor has such great impact for parents’ role is vital in the schooling of their
children. Aside from this, there are also those unqualified teachers who cannot teach all those
students who they cover. There are these books which are unreliable – having several erroneous
texts on it; information which are inaccurate and undependable. But all these – are just results of
the sudden implementation of it. It would not cover the entirety of the said program, and
thorough improvements will be ahead. Teachers who are unqualified, does not primarily tell that
one should be of the highest level of intellectuality. It points out that one must have his broad
knowledge involving the subject he is designed to, and he should have the knowledge and
process on how to imply this information to his students.
To sum it all up, K-12 Basic Education Program is essential to Filipino students. There
are many important benefits and advantages that a lot of learners currently get from the K-12
curriculum. Filipino students have ample and adequate instructional time for subject-related
tasks. It nurtures a student’s intellectual abilities and skills. It makes them prepare for their future
workplace. It improves their mathematical and scientific depth through their elective subjects. It
generates innovators who shall lead in the technological revolution of the nation, and it enhances
one’s linguistic competence and mastery of such. K-12 optimizes not only their skills and edges,
but also their own ways of leadership and direction.
