R/ This descriptive qualitative study aimed to describe the challenges in promoting learner

language teaching, and learner’s background were identified as the challenges faced by
EFL teachers in promoting learner autonomy in 21st-century learning. The EFL teachers
have applied some strategies and approaches in transforming challenges such as initiate
learning, collaborative learning strategy, planning, and time management. Through this
identification, it was expected that the learners get a better educational experience.

Due to the experience I tried to relate my experiences with what I have studied
professionally, which is teaching foreign languages. I think convenient explain that I have
selected English, since this language is taught throughout the country. In rural contexts
there is a factor that cannot be ignored and that directly affects not only the teaching-
learning of English, but education in general: the conflict armed. This has affected
Colombia in different ways, especially in the context rural, where violence has been
experienced directly. Furthermore, the educational material conditions do not favor the
teaching of English or other subjects. First, the difficult access to technology or information
such as the internet constitute an additional difficulty, since through different means of
communication how the newspaper and television news report on this worrying situation.
