Technology Standards 1.1.b Students build networks and customize their learning environments in
ways that support the learning process.
1.1.c Students use technology to seek feedback that informs and improves
their practice and to demonstrate their learning in a variety of ways.
1.2.b Students engage in positive, safe, legal, and ethical behavior when
using technology, including social interactions online or when using
networked devices.
1.3 Knowledge Constructor: Students critically curate a variety of resources
using digital tools to construct knowledge, produce creative artifacts and
make meaningful learning experiences for themselves and others.

Usage Plan Online projects, collaboration sites, and publishing opportunities have any
uses in the classroom. Some uses consist of review material, extension
resources, and remediation assignments. Students will be able to reference
the forums provided to research solutions and information pertaining to the
topic. These tools and resources are great ways of assisting students in the
exploration and discovery of mathematical concepts, as well as learning of
the origin of many topics. These tools work great for in-class assignments,
assignments over the weekend or break, and for online school needs such as
IEPs, pandemics, and unforeseen closures.

For the scope of this lesson, students will pick a couple of arithmetic online
projects to solve as a group and create a presentation walking the viewer
through the solution. Students will access the site provided and browse
through the multiple assignments before choosing two to do as a group. They
will then record which problems their group will be doing using a google sheet
provided by the teacher. Groups will then be allowed to work at their own
pace and use forums and other online resources as necessary. Specifically,
students will be required to post their problems to online forums to see the
responses and possible solutions. Once the problems are completed,
students will present their process of solving the problems and how online
forums and other resources were helpful.
Design Features a. Collaboration with peers, near-peers, mentors outside their
classroom and often beyond their school: Students will be working in
groups to solve problems and create a presentation. They will also work
together to browse different content-related forums for help, as well as
communicate with professionals and mentos outside of the classroom to
solve problems and assess the accuracy of said solutions.

b. Student-centered learning and knowledge creation (creating original

data and or producing original products because of engaging in a
project): Students will complete the assignment at their own pace and create
a presentation regarding their solutions as well as their feedback on the
usefulness and accuracy of online forums.

c. Higher-order thinking: Students will be required to assess their

experience as well as the accuracy and relevance of responses found on any
used online forums. It will be necessary for students to understand the
problem as well as attempt to understand the thought process of any
provided answer from the forum.

d. Students publishing their original work to others who will use/care

about their product: Students are not asked to publish any of their own
work. However, they will be encouraged to reply to any posts on the forums
that they find relevant/necessary and will be sharing their created
presentation with the class to assist those who have questions or problems
similar. The teacher may also keep the presentations for future use.
Universal Design The planned activity allows students to engage and create in multiple means.
Rationale Students are provided with and are encouraged to use visual, audible, and
oral representations with answering and presenting their work. There are also
multiple means of representation through online forums, and many of the
sites used such as Art of Problem Solving and Google Slides provide users
with accessibility features. Students will be able to create and present their
presentation using a variety of features to meet all accommodation needs
including explicit instruction as students show step-by-step solutions.
Lesson Idea At the beginning of the lesson, the teacher will explain the guidelines and
instructions of the assignment. A brief overview and reminder of forum
etiquette and internet safety will be discussed, as well as how to use specific
forums. Once students are divided into groups, they will be asked to first
choose their problems so that they can post online as soon as possible. The
students will have the entire week/weekend to compete the project, as it may
take time for responses to be provided online. Students will also be asked to
post the link to their question so other students can respond as well as the
teacher if necessary.

Once students have solved the problem and received enough responses,
students will be able to work together to create a presentation using their
desired presentation format. Student learning will be assessed through their
presentation material as well as the presentation itself, as students will be
able to share their experiences and discuss in class. The lesson will conclude
with students posting their feedback to online forums through the LMS for all
students to see. Feedback will be provided through responses to both student
posts and the presentation submission.
Internet Safety Any website that students use will be viewed by the teacher first. Some
websites used will require students to create an account. However, students
will be asked to use pseudonyms or any other personal information for safety.
Students are also encouraged to use avatars where they must create an
account, as they will not be allowed to use any personal pictures. All safety
and correct use will be covered prior to allowing students on any site.
Design Reflection I feel like the exploration and use of forums will be very beneficial to students
and allow them to learn about new resources that can be helpful in their
educational career and beyond. Students will also be encouraged to continue
their use of forums throughout the year and with other assignments to
increase comfort ability and efficiency with said sites. Since these forums can
be accessed after school hours, students will be able to seek and provide
help whenever they want. As students use other tools such as Desmos in
their problems, they will be able to incorporate links and screenshots in their
questions and answers.
