Welcome to the Grade 12- Contemporary Philippine Arts from the Region Alternative
Delivery Mode (ADM) Module.
This module was collaboratively designed, developed and reviewed by educators both
from public and private institutions to assist you, the teacher or facilitator in helping the
learners meet the standards set by the K to 12 Curriculum while overcoming their
personal, social, and economic constraints in schooling.
This learning resource hopes to engage the learners into guided and independent
learning activities at their own pace and time. Furthermore, this also aims to help
learners acquire the needed 21st century skills while taking into consideration their
needs and circumstances.

1 Found in the Philippines
Arts plays a significant role in cultural identity of the Philippines. Diverse art
forms found in different parts of the archipelago, when integrated, will give a clear
picture of what kind of country the Philippines and what kind of people the Filipinos
are. As a Filipino, one should have the knowledge of different forms of art in the
Philippines to fully grasp its identity as a nation and to completely embrace oneself as
a citizen.

What is It

According to Perez (2016), music, dance, theater, visual arts, literature, film and
broadcast arts, and architecture, design and allied arts are classified as distinct art
forms. As the arts in the regions have evolved and taken a new form, arts have
combined to create integrative art. There is now an interconnection among arts,
resulting in combination of arts.
The Filipino artists thirst for innovation lead them to develop contemporary arts.
The emerging new technologies are among the factors that influenced the
development of these contemporary art forms.
Contemporary arts forms in the regions now include choreography, musical
instruments, literary and music composition, visual design, theatrical performance and
cinema.

CHOREOGRAPHY

• It refers to arrangement or design for dance movements usually accompanied by


music.
• It is an art of dancing that is composed of a series of dance steps and movements
to create a story.

MUSICAL INSTRUMENTS

• It is a tool or device that produces sound.


• It consist of an array of shapes and styles from simple to the complex.
• Integration of arts is seen through the intricate designs of musical instruments,
representing visual arts: and their function, which is primarily to create music.

VISUAL DESIGN

• It is a composition of layout of lines, shapes, and color to form patterns on


paper, textile, or any piece for that matter.
• It can be found in either two dimensional works like painting and drawing;
or three-dimensional works like installation and sculpture.

THEATRICAL PERFORMANCE

• It refers to staging and execution of a production, like drama, opera,


festivals, and the like.
• It is interdisciplinary because it goes beyond theater, and other art forms,
like puppetry, cinema, and sculpture.
