Managing the Diverse Workforce

(by Eric Tadeo)

Employees of diverse backgrounds and personalities are more likely to have a wide range
of skills and experiences in the workplace which can be both an advantage and a challenge.
Even if coworkers are unhappy at work because of a diverse climate, the very essence of
making multiple viewpoints available balances the efficiency losses suffered if various
obstacles can be removed.

Workplace diversity offers a multitude of perspectives on how to deal with day-to-day

challenges and issues in order to boost productivity. Simultaneously, it can build
communication barriers, making efficiency more difficult.

Diversity in the workplace is a fact of life. Regardless of age, skill set, gender, ethnicity, or
nationality, every organization deals with diversity. You can see more or less of one or the
other depending on where you are in the world. The reality that organizations face is how to
build environments that allow managers and individuals to collaborate efficiently while being
mindful of and respectful of one another's backgrounds.

Workplace diversity isn't an opportunity or a challenge; it's a fact of life in today's world. As
people work successfully together, organizations that embrace this and build understanding
and inclusive cultures where diversity isn't a buzzword can flourish.
