The role
An experienced talent attraction professional is sought for the role of Global Talent Support
Officer, with the Australian Department of Home Affairs based at the Australian Consulate-
General in San Francisco, California.

This position will work with key stakeholders to identify, attract and facilitate top talent for
streamlined Australian permanent residency. In this role, the Global Talent Support Officer will
identify and execute opportunities to promote Australia to the best and the brightest.

Duties include
Stakeholder management

• Develop and implement the marketing, stakeholder engagement and communication


strategy, including maximising promotional opportunities and creating targeted promotional
material.
• Represent and promote the Australian Government, speak on panels and promote the Global
Talent Program (GTP) at internal and external events, expos, conferences and functions
across different industry sectors.
• Develop programs, run GTP promotional events and manage diverse stakeholders at all levels.
• Build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships, and resolve complex enquiries by
providing accurate, well-researched advice based on visa frameworks and regulations.

Program management

• Build a strong knowledge base of the GTP, the wider Migration Program and Australian
citizenship legislation.
• Develop processes to identify and mitigate risks or conflicts of interest that will affect
individual work or GTP outcomes.

• Assess GTP candidature in line with procedural instructions, as well as by applying an
evidence-based understanding of Australian skills gaps, priority sectors and needs of a
resilient Australian economy.
• Monitor and report on local media coverage of relevant GTP issues and apply targeted
promotion on the basis of current trends.
• Manage correspondence, and resolve complex queries, keep records of meetings and prepare
high level reporting as necessary.
• Provide executive support to the Global Talent First Secretaries Americas.

Department of Home Affairs.

The Department of Home Affairs is responsible for centrally coordinated strategy and policy
leadership in relation to domestic and national security arrangements, law enforcement, counter
terrorism, social cohesion, protection of Australia’s sovereignty, the integrity of Australia’s
border and the resilience of national infrastructure. The Department also delivers services
including strengthening the cohesiveness of Australian society through the migration program.
The Department manages and assists temporary and permanent migrants to Australia and
confers Australian citizenship.

What you’ll need to be successful
The Global Talent Support Officer will demonstrate:
• Self-motivation, being outcomes focussed and demonstrated ability to work quickly and
independently.
• Resilience and the ability to work and adjust to a quickly changing operating environment
demonstrating flexibility, reliability, adaptability, initiative and resourcefulness.
• Well-developed communication, interpersonal and liaison skills, with the confidence to
network and communicate with diverse target sectors across the region.
• Ability to develop and nurture productive working relationships.
• Project management skills; specifically, coordinating multiple deliverables, competing
priorities and achieving milestones to complete a project, monitor its effectiveness and review
outcomes for currency.
• Marketing, communication and event management experience.
• Ability to understand the GTP, visa frameworks, wider objectives and operations of diplomatic
posts.
• An appreciation of highly valued workforce skills and qualifications, now and into the future,
for an advanced and resilient economy in a post COVID-19 global environment.
• Flexibility to work non-standard hours when required and ability to travel regionally.

Eligibility
To be eligible for consideration and appointment you must have:

• Work Authorisation - to be eligible for employment with Austrade in the USA, candidates
must be legally authorised to live and work in the USA at the time of appointment. A2 visa
holders and prospective A2 visa applicants are not eligible for this role.

• Language - the successful candidate must be a highly motivated team member, fluent in
written and spoken English. A proficiency in written and spoken Spanish is preferred.

• Remote working – the successful candidate must have the ability to work remotely with
the option to attend the Australian Consulate-General in San Francisco as needed.

• Security Clearance - the successful applicant must be willing to complete a Pre-


Employment Screening pack and be confirmed as a suitable person to access Government
resources prior to commencement in the role.
