DKG Emergency Fund

Hopefully no one will need it, but be aware that DKG has an Emergency
Fund to help in case a disaster befalls your property. At the State
Executive Board Meeting, we were told about a member whose house
burnt to the ground and she lost absolutely everything including her pets.
At the luncheon on Saturday, there were small red bags on each table
where donations could be placed to help her. About $1100 was collected
from those in the room. People in our chapter have benefitted from this
fund, so know that if you need it, it is there. And, if we collect for the fund,
be as generous as you can be.

Notes from Pam Delucia at the State Executive Board Meeting in

Lake Mary, Sept. 17-18, 2021.

The theme of the Conven0on was “Change is Healthy and Beau0ful” and
its symbol was the the buOerfly.

This was a cookie made by a member. Delicious!

Our new State President, Roxanne Berger, had a number of challenges at

this mee=ng. It was booked and contracts signed for the rooms and

catering before Florida became #1 in the na=on for Covid cases. Central
Florida was not spared from its scourge. She and the State officers finally
accommodated those who wished to do the mee=ng by Zoom, but there
were requirements for the number of hotel rooms booked as well. It all
worked out and the Conven=on was on and well done for those in person.
Zoom had its issues for those connec=ng remotely to say the least.

The break-out sessions were interes=ng and well done but many of the
original presenters had to be replaced because of illness or other reasons.
Those present were challenged to make this year in each chapter
successful. One ques=on Roxanne Berger asked of the group was, “If your
chapter was dissolved tomorrow, would it be missed by your community?”
Many had to wonder if it would be.

Other directors asked such ques=ons as, “Do we par=cipate in legisla=ve

ac=on with our local House and Senate members?” “Do we contribute to
our local schools or charitable organiza=ons in a meaningful way?” “Do we
support our beginning teachers in any way?”. “Do we encourage personal
and professional growth in our members?” “Do we support schools or
teachers in other countries?” Thankfully, we can say yes to many of these
ques=ons in Xi. Let’s see if we can say yes to some of the rest.

The people present were wonderful and inspiring. There were many young,
enthusias=c teachers aAending and that was absolutely wonderful to see.

I hope some of you will aAend in future years.

Pam

Welcome to our Newest Member in Xi Heidi Mar0n

Hello Everyone! My name is Heidi Mar=n. I was born in Queens, New

York. My family moved to Florida when I was very young. I grew up going
to school in Broward County. While I was in school, I watched my mother
go back to college and
ul=mately make a career for
herself in educa=on.
As a young child, I would spend
apernoons and weekends
playing school with my friends. I
was always “the teacher”. I
guess even as a liAle girl I knew
what I wanted to do.
I graduated college with my
Bachelor’s degree in 1998 and
have been teaching ever since.
I’ve always loved working with
children. I am currently a 2
nd

grade teacher, although I’ve

taught at a variety of grade levels in Broward County. I’ve spent my last 13
years at my current school, Heron Heights, in Parkland, Florida.
I am married with two beau=ful girls. I love to travel and go on road trips
with my family. I’m honored to become a member of DKG and looking
forward to collabora=ng at all different levels.
