 Traditional Vocabulary Teaching Method

★ This method depends on listing and defining most

new words that are being introduced, using
English or Arabic translation dictionaries
typically, and then asking students to memorize
the meanings in English or in Arabic until they are
memorized.
★ This type of vocabulary comprehension is not for
everyone but is something that has been
successfully used for some for quite a while now.
 Visual Vocabulary Teaching Method (traditional)

★ These techniques are consistent with visual

memory and comprehension
★ Flashcards, photographs, blackboard drawings,
wall charts, mime and gesture.
★ They are employed in expressing words’ meaning.
★ These techniques are helpful in introducing
certain parts of vocabulary such as, places, real
items, professions, descriptions of people,
activities, and action ect.
★ Although this is traditional it is still essential
when it comes to many students learning visual
vocabulary
 Explicit/ Implicit Vocabulary Teaching Strategy

❖ This strategy includes a combination

of explicit and implicit teaching
strategies to teach the vocabulary
items in certain reading texts with
students.
❖ This combination includes the
teaching of some keywords that
directly use different techniques such
as giving definitions or using
synonyms and antonyms before asking
students to read the assigned texts
silently.
 Vocabulary Teaching Strategy- Word Mapping

❖ The purpose of the Word Mapping

strategy is to promote students deeper
understanding of words through
depicting different relationships among
and between words.
❖ Word maps are essentially visual maps
of word meanings organized to
understand relationships with other
words and phrases
❖ Word knowledge is essential to
vocabulary which can be achieved
through word mapping
