Tea

(a drink made by pouring hot water onto) dried and cut leaves and sometimes flowers,
especially the leaves of the tea plant

Juice

the liquid that comes from fruit or vegetables

coffee

a dark brown powder with a strong flavor and smell that is made by crushing dark beans
from a tropical bush and used to make a drink
Salt

a common white substance found in sea water and in the ground, used especially to add
flavour to food or to preserve it

Soup

a usually hot, liquid food made from vegetables, meat, or fish.

Onion

a vegetable with a strong smell and flavour, made up of several layers surrounding each
other tightly in a round shape, usually brown or red on the outside and white inside
Pizza

a large circle of flat bread baked with cheese, tomatoes, and sometimes meat and
vegetables spread on top.

Milk

the white liquid produced by cows, goats, and sheep and used by humans as a drink or for

Wine

long thin pieces of fried potato.

sweet food eaten at the end of a meal.

Chocolate

a sweet, usually brown, food made from cacao seeds, that is usually sold in a block, or a

Cocktail

a drink, usually an alcoholic one, made by mixing two or more drinks together

Stake

a thick, flat piece of meat or fish, especially meat from a cow.

Donut

a small, circular cake, fried in hot fat, either with a hole in the middle or filled with jam.
Water

a container for liquids, usually made of glass or plastic, with a narrow neck.

Beer

an alcoholic drink made from grain and hops.

Bread

a food made from flour, water, and usually yeast, mixed together and baked.
Butter

a pale yellow solid food containing a lot of fat that is made from cream and is spread on
bread or used in cooking.

Nugget

a small piece of chicken or fish that has been covered in breadcrumbs and fried.

Cheese

a food made from milk, or from a milk-like substance taken from plants, that can be either
firm or soft and is usually yellow or white in colour.
Champagne

an expensive white or pink fizzy with bubbles wine made in the Champagne area of
Eastern France, or, more generally, any similar wine. Champagne is often drunk to
celebrate something.

Avocado

a tropical fruit with thick, dark green or purple skin, a large, round seed, and soft, pale
green flesh that can be eaten.

Cookie

a small, flat, sweet food made from flour and sugar.

Waiter: Can I take your order, Madam?
Debra: I’ll have the Grilled Steak and a side order of fries.
Waiter: OK, steak and fries. What would you like to drink?
Debra: Can I see the drinks menu?
Waiter: Of course, here you are.
Debra: I’ll have a glass of wine.

After the meal


Waiter: Would you like some coffee or dessert?
Debra: A cup of coffee would be nice thank you.

Asking for the bill/check


Debra: Could a have the bill, please?
Waiter: Certainly, Madam. Here you are.
Debra: Can I pay by credit card?
Waiter: I’m afraid you can’t. Only cash.
Debra: OK. Here you are 50 dollars. Keep the change.
Waiter: Thank you, Madam. Have a good day.
