Oslo is Norway's capital. Its metropolitan area extends around Akershus Province and has a population of 1.5 million. The Oslo becomes the municipality of Norway in 1838. The rural municipality of Aker was absorbed by the expansion of Oslo in 1948 (and transferred from the province to the municipality of Oslo Akershus). The Norwegian capital still shares several important functions with Akershus and is officially the capital of the latter .

Places to visit in Oslo:

1. The impressive Vigeland Sculpture Park: Famous for its 212 sculptures by Gustav Vigeland, who also designed the park is a must visit. Admission is free and the park is open 24 hours throughout the year. Vigelandsparken, also known by the name of Frognerparken, is one of the best places to meet people in Oslo. In summer you can see hundreds of Norwegians having a picnic around the famous sculptures. It is also a popular place for a winter walk .One of the most famous sculptures is the Monolith: a column carved stone made of one of more than 14 meters high, and is composed of 121 human figures. The Monolith has many interpretations such as the struggle for existence, the experience of the everyday life, the resurrection of man etc.

2. The opera became an instant hit when it was inagurated in April 2008. World class opera and ballet, and innovative architecture have made extraordinary marble and glass building in Bjrvika, which is one of the most popular attractions in the city. The building occupies an equivalent of four football fields and has more than 38,000 square meters. This monument has three stages and has a total of 1,100 rooms. From the main entrance,

3. Akershus Fortress: Akershus Fortress in Oslo is one of the oldest heritage sites and cultural best in Norway. Akershus Fortress is classified as a national symbol by its former role as the seat of kings and central government, and not the least important of the many dramatic events that have occurred throughout history.
