EDU495 Week 9 Reflections

1. Reflect on the Assessment of Effective Teaching domain topic provided for that week
during seminar, using common template:
a. The assessment of effective teaching domain topic that was provided for this week
was the completion and time to work on our professional portfolios during
seminar class. It is important to have the portfolio to “sell” ourself as an
educator!

2. Reflection on and assess at least one key event/learning/classroom management tool that
impacted you as an educator. What was it, and how did it impact you? Relate that back
to one of the SHU Teacher Education Program Learning Outcomes (TEPLO’s)
explaining why you chose that outcome.
a. One key event that impacted me as an educator this week would have been the
preparing, completing, and planning for a holiday week during the school year. I
had never helped nor intentionally planned for festive activities, lessons, and
parties during the school year. In doing so, the TEPLO that best supports the
planning of Halloween week, and the Halloween party would be TEPLO number
5, external social forces. It states that the teacher education candidate
demonstrates: an understanding of the influence of major social forces on the
lives of preK-12 students, partnership with families, specialists, and the larger
community, preparation and willingness to address and accommodate the
educational needs of students, an awareness of the social and emotional aspects
of teaching and learning. I believe this TEPLO best fits the Halloween party,
because I had to help with communicating with the parents’ times and supplies
needed for the Halloween party!

3. Relate that to one of the Danielson Domains of Effective Teaching, including the subset
within the domain. Why did you choose that domain, and how does that impact your
teaching?
a. The Danielson Domains of Effective Teaching that would best relate to the
Halloween Party event is domain 4, professional responsibilities. Specifically,
domain 4c communicating with families. I was able to assist Missy and the fifth-
grade team in information about the program, and the engagement of families in
the program. We were able to send home letters about the Halloween Party as
well as make Facebook posts and reminders.
