Chapter 2 B Electronics

The setting addresses of timers and control registers are given in the section 2.1.2.4.1.

Working mode

The counters work in mode 2 (see Intel documentation). The LOAD1 signal allows to set the counters to zero
after their initiation. The LOAD2 signal works with the OVER signal to initiate the counters by their GATE
control. Thus, when an OVER signal appears during integration the counter is reinitiated at the end of this.
Thus, if at the end of an integration, the counter contains 0 or 1, this is because an over-range has occurred
and these values are not significant (see also chapter 2.1.2.4.2 Timers Synchronisation).

2.2.1.1.6 Counter Decoder

The IC26 circuit (binary decoder/demultiplexer) decodes addresses A8B and A9B which allow to select each
of the counter chips.

Decoding is active when the board is selected with signal BS1 (board select 1).

2.2.1.1.7 Profile Decoder

The analogue profile is executed by a frequency/voltage converter. The pulses coming from each of the con-
verters can be directed on the RB line (ratemeter bus) using multiplexer IC12. The address of each of the
channels is given by signals CS0, CS1 and CS2 according to the following.

Channel CS2 CS1 CS0

1 0 0 0
2 0 0 1
3 0 1 0
4 0 1 1
5 1 0 0
6 1 0 1

The multiplexer is selected using signal BS2 (board select 2).

2.2.1.1.8 Adjustment

It is necessary to adjust both the gain and the zero of each converter.

Potentiometers P2, P3, P6, P7, P10 and P11 are for adjustment of the gain. Potentiometers P1, P4, P5, P8, P9
and P12 are used to adjust the zero to one hundredth of the maximum value.

Procedure

The procedure below is the one carried out in the factory. A more appropriate procedure is in service in the
field using a small simulator; it is described in Service Information SI585.

1. The channel must be supplied with 2 V across a 2 MΩ resistor and the adjustment made so as to obtain
100 kHz.
2. Adjust the zero by supplying with 10 mV across 2 MΩ for 0.5 kHz.
3. Repeat 1 and 2.
4. When the board is mounted in the instrument, readjust the zero so as to obtain between 5 and 10 pulses
per second.
