This document summarizes various studies that investigated the sugar yields from enzymatic hydrolysis of different palm biomass substrates after various pretreatments. It shows that oil palm empty fruit bunch (OPEFB) pretreated with supercritical water-carbon dioxide (SCW-CO2) and sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) 3% achieved a sugar yield reduction of 24.518% after enzymatic hydrolysis using cellulase 20 FPU/g and xylanase 151 U/g at 50°C for 48 hours at pH 5.5. In general, pretreatments involving acids, alkalis or thermal methods improved sugar yields over untreated substrates upon subsequent enzymatic hydrolysis.
