Bioengineered foods are those whose growth process has been

manipulated by humans. The reading and the lecture are both about this
topic. Whereas the author of the reading states that genetically modified
foods are good for humans and are helping us with the world hunger
problem, the lecturer suggests that they have many disadvantages and
one of them is the possible generation of toxic substances. In this essay
we will contrast the main points made in the reading and the listening.

Firstly, according to the reading, genetically engineered foods are kind

of a savior for the humanity due to the improved nutritional quality they
have, and the increase of edible fruits and vegetables, such as bananas,
that in the past used to have a lot of seeds making them impossible to
eat. However, the lecturer says that government use these foods to feed
the population for their own benefits, not for profit.

Secondly, the reading states that biological modified food is a new

adaptation of the traditional cross-breeding of plants, the only change is
that it has many advantages, like the ability of fruits to thrive in
different climates. Nevertheless, the lecturer refutes this argument by
saying that there is a lot of change between a traditional cross-breeding
and genetic modification of food, for example: a lot of scientists agree
with the fact that engineered food is a risk for the humanity, because of
the artificial process of biomodification.

Finally, the reading claims that modified foods are safe for consumption,
it is proven by a test which compares this new kind of food with non-
modified items. On the other hand, the lecturer believe that this process
of testing is fake, this can be seen in many products with no labels,
because it is very common for the producers to decide the specific
things they would like to test, like appearance or flavor of the products.
