SUBJECT: Teaching Music in Elementary Grades (EDUC 219)

TIME: 8:30-9:30 ( MWF)

Answer these questions:

1. Based on the reading provided, what is your personal philosophy in teaching music?

> As a future teacher, my philosophy in teaching music is to provide a safe and comfortable
environment for them to learn and grow. Giving a safe and comfortable environment can help
students not only to be themselves but they are free to make mistakes. From the mistakes that
they have done, they can learn from it that they can apply in a real-world situation. As a teacher, I
would rather to demonstrate them than simply telling to them what I want them to learn. I think I
can learn from my students as they can learn from me. I want to show them as much respect as
they give me by giving them the freedom about their interpretations and ideas in which they are
the ones who will choose the music that they want to perform as well as the content that they
want to learn.

2. Why do you think teaching music is important to schools?

> I think the importance of teaching music in school is that it can help students improve
and develop their language skills. Music stimulates the brain, and kids expose to a greats
quantity of language in a short amount of time due to the variety of sounds and lyrics. Kinds
of music also expose students to foreign languages, laying the groundwork for their capacity
to understand and communicate in another language.
