LESSON 6
CULTURE: HOW IT DEFINES MORAL BEHAVIOR

1. When you hear the word “culture” what comes to your mind at once? List them
down.
2. Share the marriages practices that your tribes are practicing. Mention the tribe where you belong.
 I am not belong in the any tribes but my ethnicity is zamboangeno and I am belong in the
Roman Catholic religion. As far as I know as what I have heard about the marriages practices
that we follow as a Roman Catholic are the following;
*The bride can’t be seen the groom before the day of the ceremony.
* The bride can’t use the wedding gown unless it is the wedding day.
* The couples cannot get marred if they didn’t do the first communion and the confirmation.
* And the wedding will happen in the church we’re the ceremony consists, at least, of three
biblical readings, the exchange of vows, the exchange of rings, the prayer of the faithful, the
nuptial blessing.

1. Explain the “why” behind these different marriage practices. Are they morally
acceptable?
 In my opinion, yes it is morally acceptable because those different marriage practices are
usually being used or they follow with the culture of our tribes or ethnicity. We all know that we
have different practices are following and sometimes some culture are differs from other
religion are not agree with other culture being practiced.
1. Culture affects human behavior. Is this proven in this instance when one spends so much
money for rebonding of her hair or buying an expensive Nike pair of shoes instead of using
the money to pay her tuition in school so can take the final exams (which is most urgent)?
2. Cite two more proofs that culture influences human behavior.
3. Cite a behavior of yours which is an influence of your culture. Is that behavior morally right?
4. Enculturation is the learning of first culture. Acculturation is the learning of second culture. Are
these statements correct?
5. Does culture limit person’s freedom? Discuss your answer.

Reflect on one cultural practice of yours. Is it moral in the sense that it make you more human?
