Two-Dimensional Figures
Example 1
Find the perimeter or circumference and area of each figure if each unit on the
graph measures 1 centimeter. Round answers to the nearest tenth, if necessary.
1. 2. 3.

√( -5-0)²+(5-3)²
= √29
√ ( 5-2)² + ( 3-1)² AC= √ ( 10-2)² + (1-1 )²= 8 P= 4( √29)
= √13 or 3.6 AB= √ ( 8-2)² + ( 6-1)² = √61 P =21.5 cm
C=2π( √13 ) BC= √ (10-8)² + ( 1-6)² = √29 A= ( √29) ²
C= 22.7 cm P= 8+ √61 + √29
A= π(√13)² A= 29 cm ²
P = 21.2 cm
A= 13π or 40.8 cm² A = 1/2(8)(5 )
A = 20 cm²

4. 5. 6.

AB = √ ( -6-2)² + ( 6-3)²
= √ 73
BC= √ ( -3-2 )² + ( 3-(-2) ) ²
= 5√2
( -0.5,0.5)
H= √( -6-(-0.5) )² + ( 6-0.5)²
= 7.77
AB= √ ( 2-5 )² + (6-3)² P= 2( √73) + 5√2
= 24.1 cm
= 3√2 A= 1/2 ( 5√2) ( 7.77)
BC= √( 5-1)+ ( 3-(-1) ) = 27.5 cm²
= 4√2 R= √ ( 5-2) + ( 5-2)
P = 2( 3√2 ) + 2 ( 4√2 ) = 3√2
P = 19.8 cm C= 2π(3√2)
A= 3√2 x 4√2
C= 26.7 cm
A = 24 cm ²
Example 2 A= π( 3√2 )²
Use a two-dimensional model and the dimensions provided to calculate A= 56.5 cm²
the perimeter or circumference and area of each object. Round to the nearest
tenth, if necessary.
7. 8. 9.

P= 2(20.2) + 2( 13.4)
7.2/2 = 3.6 P= 67.2 cm
1/2 (8.4) (8.6) C= 2π ( 3.6) A= 13.4 x 20.2
= 36.12 C= 22.6 cm A= 270.7 cm ²
1/2 ( 6.6 ) ( 8.6) A= π( 3.6 ) ²
= 28.38 A= 40.7 cm ²
A= 36.12+ 28.38
A= 64.5 cm ²
P= 12+10.8 + 8.4+6.6
P= 37.8 cm

10. BACKYARD Ricardo is helping his neighbor improve his
backyard.
a. The neighbor wants to install a gate on either side of
the house and then fencing around the sides and back
of the yard. What length of fencing do they need,
including the gate?

P= 3+3+18+18+32+8
p = 82 ft
b. Next Ricardo wants to build a triangular garden. What
area of the backyard will be covered with dirt for the garden?
A= 1/2 ( 8) ( 13)
= 52 ft ²

c. Ricardo will cover the rest of the yard with grass seed. What area
of the backyard will he need to cover with grass?
Ag = 1/2 (8) ( 13)
Ag= 52
A= (40)(18)
= 720
= 720-52
A= 668ft²

11. WINDOW A large window is made of a semicircle and a square.

The square section is made of 9 square window panes. The
builder wants to buy glass for each of the parts of the window.
a. What is the area, in square inches, of the semicircular pane of glass
the builder needs? Round the answer to the nearest tenth, if
necessary.
r= 2x12 +3.
= 27 in
A= 1/2 π ( 27) ²
= 1145.1 in ²
b. What is the area, in square inches, of each of the 9 panes of glass for
the square part of the window? Round the answer to the nearest
tenth, if necessary. 4x12+6
= 54in
A= (54)² /9
A = 324 in²
c. What is the perimeter, in inches, of the entire window? Round the
answer to the nearest tenth, if necessary.

PS= 3( 54 )
= 162
Pc= 1/2x2π(27)
Two-Dimensional Figures = 84.8 Extra Practice
P= 162+ 84.8
