Dogs v. Cats
Sometimes I can’t stop imagining what life would be without my two adorable pets.
Bailey is my dog, and Kim is my cat. Growing up, I have always treasured pets, especially dogs
and cats. Since I was a toddler, my parents always got me a variety of pets, but my preference
stuck with dogs and cats. I find my daily routines incomplete without the company of Kim and
Bailey. While most of my friends wake up to stretching their hands towards their phones, mine is
quite different. I would be lonely without the two right by my side. I once woke up and couldn’t
find Kim anywhere in the house. I searched the whole compound and even asked my neighbors
if they had seen Kim only to discover that he was in the artic busy capturing mice. Bailey was
the one who sniffed around and gave me the direction of where Kim was. Even though Kim and
Bailey differ in their behavior and pack mentality, they share hunting and territorial instincts.
One significant contrast between Kim and Bailey lies in their behavior. The behavior of
cats and dogs is different regarding their activeness. During the daytime, dogs play much and
prefer to be next to their owners (Herwijnen et al., 4). However, they may take naps on a few
occasions. Bailey rarely sleeps during the day unless I deny him some attention. He would
always want to play with me during the day and even joined me in exercising. On the other hand,

cats are more active during the evenings and at night. Most of the day, they usually sleep away.
Kim loves to sleep, but she makes time for me sometimes during the day.
Another difference I noticed between the two pets was when going for pack walks.
Bailey always seems to love engaging with other dogs. These instances confirm that dogs are
pack members. Bailey regularly follows my order and regards me as his pack leader. Meanwhile,
Kim would always tend to be independent and does not rely much on me as Bailey does.
Despite the difference in behavior between Kim and Bailey, the two share common
similarities. Both pets have very incredible hunting and territorial instincts (Poole, 860). I feed
the pets regularly, but occasionally I would find them hunting and scavenging. I took in the pets
at a tender age, and none of them ever got taught how to hunt. It is fascinating how they would
independently learn how to hunt. Similarly, both cats and dogs possess territorial instincts. When
feeding the pets, they would both mark their territories, preventing people from accessing the
food. Often, they would drive off another animal that would try to invade their space while
feeding. Bailey would tend to bark at another animal nearing the food.
Regardless of the similarities and differences that Bailey and Kim have, they are my
favorite pets. Both of the pets differ in their behavior and pack mentality. However, Kim and
Bailey have incredible hunting and territorial instincts. They offer me, companion, especially
when I am alone. I am fond of the two pets since they are incredibly adorable. They may be
different, but they may be different in some way, but that does not matter to me.
