Center for Additive Manufacturing
and Logistics
6
Mission
• Support North Carolina as well as US industry
to get introduced to and adopt additive
manufacturing technologies through basic and
applied research, outreach, and student
education.
7
Objectives
• Perform (in collaboration with members and
partners) industrially relevant fundamental research
related to development of:
– new materials for additive manufacturing
– automatic finishing technologies required for dimensional
requirements, surface finishes, etc.
– biomedical applications of additive manufacturing including
implant design and production
– electronics and power electronics packaging through additive
manufacturing
– "new" products designed and optimized for additive
manufacturing
– strategic logistics and supply chain models for the additive
manufacturing industry
8
Objectives (cont.)
• Use pooled funds to stimulate mutually profitable
application of 3-D printing for aerospace, automotive,
medical device, and other emerging application domains.
• Be the focal point for education of students in engineering,
the basic sciences, design, and management.
• Provide training of industry personnel in the areas of
additive manufacturing processes, finishing of additively
produced parts, design for additive manufacture, design
and operation of additive manufacturing supply chains.
• Disseminate knowledge though research symposia,
workshops, and training.
