Works Cited DCC Workshop

This workshop put on by Delgado was a nice opportunity for receptivity practice and to see

firsthand simultaneous interpreting by our program's very own, Gary. The workshop was an interpreted

event for writing students , going over works cited sources. My internet connection was not great but it

was still great practice nonetheless and I was able to catch some details . I like how Gary signed the

teacher's statement of “my goodness”, with an improvised hand to the chin in deep thought. I took note

of his role shifting between students asking questions and the teacher answering them. I learned a new

vocabulary word “DAUNTING”. I also like how Gary negates with a simple head shake or mouthing

“no” on a sign , I plan to implement this more in my own signing. He translated “unbiased” as “NOT

PREFER”. For “update”, “IMPROVE” was signed. These are all giving me great ideas for vocabulary

options, and it brings me back to Les's class when we went over synonyms. I found myself while

observing this class premeditating certain vocabulary while listening to the instructor; and what I would

sign and if it matches, which I think is a big improvement. I've come a long way, but must still work on

improving my fingerspelling and receptivity. I find that I learn way more from deep observation of an

interpreted class like this than book study.
