This workshop put on by Delgado was a nice opportunity for receptivity practice and to see
firsthand simultaneous interpreting by our program's very own, Gary. The workshop was an interpreted
event for writing students , going over works cited sources. My internet connection was not great but it
was still great practice nonetheless and I was able to catch some details . I like how Gary signed the
teacher's statement of “my goodness”, with an improvised hand to the chin in deep thought. I took note
of his role shifting between students asking questions and the teacher answering them. I learned a new
vocabulary word “DAUNTING”. I also like how Gary negates with a simple head shake or mouthing
“no” on a sign , I plan to implement this more in my own signing. He translated “unbiased” as “NOT
PREFER”. For “update”, “IMPROVE” was signed. These are all giving me great ideas for vocabulary
options, and it brings me back to Les's class when we went over synonyms. I found myself while
observing this class premeditating certain vocabulary while listening to the instructor; and what I would
sign and if it matches, which I think is a big improvement. I've come a long way, but must still work on
improving my fingerspelling and receptivity. I find that I learn way more from deep observation of an
