The Story Of The Fleury Parchment

Production Notes:

I went with a quicker style of writing and production which involves quick

dialogue and quick movements. You could really say there’s more moving

than talking. It starts off slower then the rest, but it’s action packed

throughout. Would prioritize finding actors who could keep up with the

fast-pace. The beginning of the story takes place where the Fleury family is

from, Andover, Maryland.

{OPEN}
{START OF SCENE I}

Narrator: The Fleury parchment is a scripture in the Fleury family which is

believed to uncover the secrets of the long lost Fleury ancestors and the

location of a substantial amount of money kept safe in a bank account.

{ENTER ELIAS TO NARRATORS LEFT}

Narrator: Elias is the youngest Fleury brother, and has always been thought

of as the golden “can do no wrongs” boy of the family. But Elias wants to

take it further than the child favorite and forever solidify himself as a family

legend who found the parchment.

{ENTER DOUGIE TO NARRATORS RIGHT}

Narrator: Dougie, the oldest child, has always been more quiet, and the more

outspoken one of the Fleury sons. He normally keeps to himself, but his one

problem has always been his pettiness. His mom believes that he doesn’t

even want to find the parchment, he just wants to find a way to spite Elias.

{BOTH EXIT IN OPPOSITE DIRECTIONS}

Narrator: For years upon years since it’s reveal, the Fleury parchment has

divided once friendly brothers Elias and Dougie, into mortal enemies both

driven crazy at the thought of its discovery.

{EXIT NARRATOR, END OF SCENE I}

{START OF SCENE II}

{ENTER ELIAS & NINO}

Elias (Talking to Nino): I’m just trying to plan it all out you know. I think I

might head south this weekend. What do you think?

{PHONE DINGS}

Nino: Uh sure. You gotta come look at this.

Elias: What is it?

Nino: Just come over here and see for yourself.

{ELIAS WALKS TOWARDS NINO, READS PHONE MESSAGE}

{ELIAS SCREAMS IN RAGE}

Elias (angrily yelling): ARE YOU KIDDING ME? I’VE HAD MY ENTIRE

TRIP PLANNED OUT FOR OVER A YEAR AND A HALF AND THIS

WEASEL COMES IN AND MAGICALLY STEALS MY PLAN IN A

DAY?

Nino: Calm down bro, we’ll get it figured out.

Elias (still angrily): No. Nino, I’m done with this. I don’t need any of this.

I’m out.

Nino: Where are you going?

Elias: Away from you, bro. I’m moving my NC trip up to today. I might not

ever see you again. Don’t wait up for me. Goodbye.

{NINO MAKES SHOCKED EXPRESSION}

{ELIAS EXITS}

{END OF SCENE II}

{START OF SCENE III}

{ELIAS SITTING ON TRAIN TO NC, SEVERAL PEOPLE

SURROUNDING HIM. LOOKING AT HIS PHONE}

{ELIAS RECEIVES CALL FROM RANDOM NUMBER, DECLINES IT}

{ELIAS RECEIVES MULTIPLE MORE CALLS FROM SAME NUMBER,

ANSWERS 5TH ONE}

Elias (angrily): What could you possibly want for you to spam my number

this many times?

Anonymous Person: *chuckles*

Elias (thinking to himself): I swear I’ve heard that laugh before…

Dougie: You know what I want. Just wanted to remind you that you can’t

escape me.
{DOUGIE HANGS UP}

{ELIAS SCREAMS IN RAGE, THROWS PHONE AND IT LANDS

RIGHT NEXT TO A MIDDLE AGED MAN}

Elias (speaking to man): I’m so sorry, I didn’t mean to do that next to you.

Man: It’s okay, kid. Talk to me. Why are you so angry? Let me be your

random train therapist. Therapist Sebastian if you will.

Elias: Sebastian?

Sebastian: Yes, that’s my name. Go on now, kid.

Elias: So you see, there’s this super important parchment which belongs to

my family and has been desired for a long time by just about everyone in my

family, but mainly me and my brother Dougie. Well, Dougie is extremely

petty and wants to take the scroll all for himself and take the secrets for

himself too. So bas-

Sebastian: Let me guess, that’s what you want to do but you don’t have the

willpower to admit it?

Elias (somewhat upset by this): What? No, I jus-

Sebastian: Want to take all the loot to yourself?

Elias (yells): NO! Quit interrupting me to make wild assumptions like that!

You know what, you’re just some random guy on a train, I don’t even need

you.

{ELIAS BEGINS TO WALK AWAY, BUT SEBASTIAN SAYS

SOMETHING WHICH STOPS HIM}

Sebastian: Oh, but you do.

{SEBASTIAN TURNS AROUND}

Elias: What could I possibly need your help for?

Sebastian: *chuckles into a wheeze* You need me so I can find where your

brother is located.

Elias (annoyed): How could YOU possibly know that?

Sebastian: I can track the call from your phone.

Elias (in surprising tone): How did you know that it was him on the phone?

Sebastian: You’re clearly short-tempered, but what other person on this planet

could possibly make you that angry over a phone call?

Elias (in smug tone): Uh, my girlfriend obviously!

Sebastian: Your *makes air quotes* girlfriend huh? What’s her name?

Elias: *takes a long pause, looking around at his objects like he’s trying to

figure it out.
Sebastian: Exactly. Just sit down and let me help you buddy.

Elias: Fine, I’m in.

[TRAIN CONDUCTOR MAKES ANNOUNCEMENT THAT ALL

PEOPLE GETTING OFF AT ASHEVILLE WILL BE DEPARTING IN

HALF AN HOUR}

Elias (exclaims): Oh shoot, that’s my stop. We have to move quickly.

Sebastian (calmly): Just give me the number and I can find his location on

my phone.

{SEBASTIAN PULLS OUT MASSIVE PHONE ELIAS HAS NEVER

SEEN BEFORE}

Elias: How is that even possible?

Sebastian: Ask any more questions and the deal may or may not be off.

Elias: Fair. *gives Sebastian number*

{SEBASTIAN TAKES SOMEWHAT LONG TIME HEAVILY FOCUSING

WHILE ELIAS NERVOUSLY WAITS}

{TRAIN CONDUCTOR ANNOUNCES ALL PEOPLE LEAVING TO

ASHEVILLE MUST GET OFF NOW}

Elias (nervously shouts): Oh my god, are you done yet Sebastian?

Sebastian (calm tone): Not yet!

Elias (shouts louder): ARE YOU SERIOUS? I HAVE TO LEAVE RIGHT

NOW!

Sebastian: Oh well!

Elias: I can’t believe this.

{ELIAS BEGINS TO WALK AWAY, BUT SEBASTIAN SAYS

SOMETHING WHICH STOPS HIM}

Sebastian: Land Of The Noonday Sun.

Elias: WHAT?

Sebastian: He’s in a forest in Nantahala, North Carolina.

Elias: Are you serious? Why did you wait until I was already leaving to say

this?

Sebastian (smiling): Dramatic effect, duh.

{ELIAS GRINS FROM EAR TO EAR, BEFORE GIVING SEBASTIAN A

BIG HUG}

Elias: Thank you.

Sebastian: See you around.

{ELIAS DEPARTS ON ASHEVILLE EXIT}

{END OF SCENE III}

{START OF SCENE IV}

{ENTER ELIAS, HAVE HIM GAZE OUT AT MASSIVE PINE FOREST}

Elias: *talking to himself* I’ve been to just about everywhere in NC, but I’ve

never seen anything like this place. Nan-tan-hala, what does that even mean?

Stop Elias. I can’t get sidetracked. I need to find Dougie.

{ELIAS WANDERS STAGE, TREE BACKGROUND GOES FROM SIDE

TO SIDE AS HE CIRCLES}

{TURN TO NIGHT}

Elias: *talking to himself, panting* Where could he possibly be? It’s like I’ve

searched everywhere.

{ELIAS HEARS WALKING SOUND BEHIND HIM, QUICKLY TURNS

AROUND}

Elias (shouting): WHO IS IT? (3x)

{DOUGIE SUDDENLY ENTERS QUIETLY BEHIND ELIAS, PATS HIS

BACK}

{THEY BEGIN TO SHOUT AT EACH OTHER, THEN FIGHT AFTER

ELIAS THROWS FIRST PUNCH}

{FIGHT FOR A FEW}

{AFTER FIGHTING FOR A FEW, ELIAS SCREAMS}

Elias (screaming): STOP!

{DOUGIE SUDDENLY STOPS WITH SURPRISED EXPRESSION}

*ELIAS ENTERS MONOLOGUE*

Elias: Have we ever even asked ourselves why we were fighting? For a piece

of paper? No, not even that. FOR A PIECE OF PAPER WE DON’T KNOW

WHAT’S ON IT? This is why? We’re both in our 20’s. We are grown men

fighting for a piece of paper. I know it was mainly me most of the time. I

know that I continuously incited it. I’m sorry for that. But, I want this to stop.

We literally could find the paper if we work together, and split the treasures

of it. Come on, eldest brother. This all ends today. From this day forward,

Elias and Dougie Fleury are brothers once again. No more toxicity.

{DOUGIE SHEDS TEAR, THEY HUG.}

Dougie: Let’s go find that parchment.

{END OF SCENE IV}

{SCENE V BEGINS}

{ENTER ELIAS & DOUGIE, ABOUT TO WALK UP WOODEN LODGE

WITH SPIRAL STAIRCASE}

{THEY WALK UP THE STAIRCASE, GET TO THE TOP TO CHEST}

Elias: Do you remember the code, I never figured it out.

Dougie: Wait, then why were you coming here in the first place?
Elias: To take the chest home and try to figure it out eventually.

Dougie: Wow, our relationship really was toxic.

Elias: I know. Hold on, how did you even find out the code?

Dougie: Back of Dad’s notebook under the sink. Inside of a vault.

Elias: Wow, I really never would have found it anyways.

Dougie: Alright, enough talk. Let’s open this baby up.

{THEY OPEN VAULT}

{THEY FIND A SCROLL, DRAMATIC READING}

{ELIAS AND DOUGIE SHOUT AT EXACT SAME TIME}

Elias & Dougie: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?

Elias (shouting): 16 YEARS?

Dougie (shouting): FOR THIS?

Elias: So what could this mean?

Dougie: Nothing that matt- Wait, what is that on the back?

{ELIAS AND DOUGIE READ IT ALOUD TOGETHER}

Elias & Dougie: *reading of scroll* You have to work aside one another, not

adjacent. Nothing will be accomplished without synergy. Hope this helps.

Elias: We already learned that lesson 20 minutes ago not again!

Dougie: Oh well. Some things are better than treasures.

Elias: True that.

{THEY GAZE OFF THE SIDE OF THE TOWER}

{DOUGIES PHONE RINGS}

{HE ANSWERS IT}

Elias: Who is it?

{DOUGIE HAS WORRIED LOOK ON HIS FACE, HE PUTS HIS

POINTER FINGER OVER HIS MOUTH AND SHUSHES ELIAS}

Elias: WHO IS IT?

{PHONE CALL ENDS}

Dougie: Mom.

{CURTAIN ROLLS AND THEY LEAVE WITH SURPRISED LOOK}
