Introduction

Heaven is the pattern by which all things on earth are ordered and measured. It is the backdrop
against which we live our lives, think our thoughts, say our words and do our deeds. Everything
on earth is regulated by Heaven's rule (Matthew 6:10). God is the Creator, ruler, lawgiver and
judge of all the earth. He is ever mindful of every creature and knows all our emotions within
and without. Nothing escapes His knowledge or is hidden from His eyes.

Jesus was in continual contact with His Father in Heaven. He never spoke a word but what He
first heard His Father speak in Heaven, nor did He do any act but what He first saw His Father
do in Heaven (John 5:19). What He heard in the Spirit, He spoke. What He saw in the Spirit,
He did. It is the same with His Church on earth. We have received the same Holy Spirit from
His mouth, not only for new birth but also for new life. All that we think, say and do is to be
guided by and ordered by Heaven. Heaven will judge whether we have acted by our own
natural spirit or by His Holy Spirit.

Every day we, His people, each one of us, are hearing His voice, seeing His face and walking in
His holy presence. We live our lives by Heaven's perfect pattern. "We live by every word
which proceeds continually from His mouth. " Matthew 4 :4 We seek after His face to know His will
and to follow His ways in all our doings. This is the fear of God at work in us, by which He daily
guides and leads His holy children on earth. Nothing happens on earth but what it is first said or
done in Heaven. This is the foundation of the Church and the revelation granted to every
believer. "Apart from Him, we can do nothing. "John 15 :5 "In Him, we can do all things. "Philippians

4:13

Jesus said, "My sheep hear My voice. "John 10:4 This is the life and light of every true believer. If
we belong to God, and have His everlasting life, and know Him at all times and in all places, we
are able by His Spirit of continual revelation to speak His words and do His deeds. Daily prayer
and worship proceeds along this path, so that all our steps are ordered by the Lord. Psalm 37 :23

Thus, it is said in truth, I will enter His gates with thanksgiving and proceed into His courts with
praise, and pass into His glorious presence with awe and adoration every single day. Psalm 100:4

What is prayer but this daily procedure and protocol? Everyone who delights in Him and loves
His holy name worships Him continually in this manner. Those who love Him seek Him early

2
and dwell continually in His presence to wait upon Him each day, seeking His face and hearing
His voice, in order that we may do His pleasure in all our words and deeds continually. As in
Heaven, so on earth.

There are eight essential parts to daily prayer. Each part follows its assigned order for each
new day. They are easy to learn and to master, forming a heavenly pattern for your life on earth
as God intends it to be. The order is important for each believer to learn. When you understand
the eight parts in their divine order, they will_ enable you to maintain a healthy relationship with
your loving heavenly Father. Ordered prayer is the foundation of your daily walk and life. Once
you have learned the wisdom of this practice, you will experience peace and happiness on a
daily basis.

Many Christians today either do not pray very often or their prayers are ineffective. They may
not understand the great difference between their flesh (sarx) and their spirit (pneuma). The
two are diametrically opposed. One is evil and must be overcome by prayer; the other is good
and must be followed. And there is another important difference: the spirit (pneuma) must not
be confused with the soul (psyche). The spirit of every man must always govern the soul of a
man. Many Christians are believers but are undisciplined in their faith and walk because they
do not order their steps by the Lord's daily pattern. A spiritual Christian, by ordered prayer, puts
to death his or her flesh each day and governs his or her soul aright.

Every Christian needs to understand what the Word of God (the Bible) has to say regarding the
purpose and order of his or her daily prayer. This teaching is fundamental to our daily life and
walk with God, our heavenly Father. Jesus, God's only begotten Son, taught His disciples how
to pray (Matthew 6:9-13). It pleases the Lord when we follow His wisdom and instruction.

Satan, God's enemy and ours, hopes we will not understand the language of daily prayer
according to God's eight-fold order and purpose. He cannot defeat us or hinder us if we gain
boldness of access to the divine throne every day. On the contrary, the disciplined believer will
easily overcome the devil and destroy his evil plans against God and against us. Satan, the
enemy, desires to defeat God's purposes and destroy God's beloved children in their faith and
walk every day. But God's purposes are indefeasible and our safety and happiness is certain,
once we discover the heavenly pattern for our daily lives.

3
This booklet was written to teach you how to know the Lord in the proper way each day, and
how to identify the work of your enemy and overcome him moment by moment. Satan hopes to
keep you ignorant of God':s divine protocol so that you will not know the correct way to approach
God and order your life on earth.

A protocol is a code of conduct which is set forth in writing, revealing to the one under authority
(believers under discipleship) the proper procedures he or she must follow in order of
precedence. The word literally means th~ first (protos) which is glued together (ko//am) in a
long roll of individual parts, pages or sheets. Daily prayer follows these eight parts or sheets of
ordered conduct which the Christian must follow each day in God's household to worship God
and to love those on earth. Daily prayer is our protocol to freedom from all harm and
destruction. Once we learn obedience to pray in the right manner, approaching the heavenly
Father in the way He has set forth in His Holy Word, we will experience the wisdom and favor of
Heaven in all that we say and do.

The Christian walk can be compared to the institution of marriage. When a couple is newly
married, they believe that life will be something wonderful. But soon they are surprised to
realize that they are having trouble staying happy all the time with their spouse. Eventually,
they try to get control of the situation, but all to no avail. Not knowing what to do, or which way
to proceed, they try to do the best they can, becoming frustrated, angry and hurt. The marriage
union holds together, but the love and happiness is harder to maintain. Disillusionment about
one's self and about the other weakens the marriage.

In the same way, there are Christians who become discouraged after they meet Jesus, because
the Christian life is not exactly as they had anticipated it to be. Consequently, they blame
themselves, and then God, because they do not know what to do or how to put things right or
how to restore the original pattern. They do not understand God, know His ways or understand
the perfect way of thinking, feeling, speaking or acting. Being ignorant of His design and
procedures of daily living and prayer, not knowing His vision and the particular way Heaven has
established for conducting our lives (the series of steps for knowing Him and prospering in Him),
. the newborn Christian soon becomes sadly disillusioned.

Our enemy is happy when we fail. He wants us to be ignorant of God and His ways. He is out
to defeat God and destroy us if he can, but God has set out His plan and purpose in His

4
revealed Word. His light and truth expels our darkness and lies. "He that is in us is greater
than He that is in the world." 1 John 4 :4 Satan can be resisted and overcome by learning the Truth
and following God's pattern and protocol for daily prayer. All of Satan's attempts to confuse, to
discourage, to disillusion and to destroy our joy and our work with God will fail and come to
nothing once we accept the Lord's daily discipline and code of conduct.

The devil (diab/os) is our tempter and our accuser. His temptations come by lie and deceit,
attacking God's Word of truth and light. Once we fall into his temptation and snare, doubting
God's clear Word, we are easy prey for his continued false accusations. He wants to divide us
from God and from one another and weaken us until he can rob and destroy us.

Satan, the devil, and our accuser (ho kategoros) is our adversary. He hates God, His Word, His
Gospel, the Savior and all of us who wish to know, love and follow God. An adversary
(antidikos) is a lawless one who governs our flesh (to overthrow our spirit) and rules this world.
However, Jesus has judged the ruler of this world and set us free from the. government of the
flesh (John 16:11; Romans 8:1-4). The devil, the world and our flesh are all three opposed to
God and are determined to destroy us if we do not stand up to them and denounce them.
"Submit yourselves under the mighty hand of God: resist the devil and he shall certainly flee
from you. , James 4:7

In daily prayer, you must understand the wiles (tricks, lies, deceits and evil deeds) of the devil,
as well as the world and the flesh, in order to overcome. The eight parts of daily prayer teach
us to submit to God and to oppose these three enemies.

1) The Devil: he is a creature of God, an angelic being who turned away from God,
rebelling against God's limitations and the authority of His law. He is also invisible to
men and rules the earth, not from the highest Heaven, but from the mid-heavens, where
he can set up his demonic kingdom of darkness, hoping to thwart God's holy purposes
and power by deceiving, tempting, accusing and finally destroying us.

2) The World: the Greek word (kosmos) means the ordered, created universe, the heavens
and the earth, under God's ultimate rule and judgment, but perverted by the devil
operating upon the flesh of men who have sinned and fallen away from God's truth and
light. The original created world (kosmos) was good, but after the devil was able to bring

5
about man's fall into sin and spread rebellion under the mid-heavens in defiance of the
Creator, it is now sinful and full of iniquity (Proverbs 17:6; James 3:6). The devil is the
ruler of the world. He is the invisible authority and power behind the evil of this world.
His dark system keeps mankind in ignorance, misery and darkness (Ephesians 4:18).
The world and its vanity must be judged and purged by God's fire. The devil's reign over
the created heaven and the earth is temporal. Soon his dark kingdom will end and he
will be destroyed and cast into the lake of fire. In the meantime, "he is like a roaring
lion, seeking whom he may devour." 1Peter s:a When a Christian learns the Truth through
the Gospel of Jesus Christ; he returns to God's higher rule and flees from this world.
Though he remains physically in this world, he is no longer part of it (John 17:15-16).
Love of the Father is hatred of this present world order of demonic darkness (James
4:4).

3) The Flesh: we have sinned against God in the highest Heaven and have forsaken all His
ways and His goodness (Psalm 41:4;51:4; lsa.53:6). The spiritual part of man no longer
rules over man's soul (psyche) and body (soma) as God originally intended. Our flesh
(sarx) now rules over us, giving the devil the right to direct us, contrary to God's good
purpose. When a man becomes born again (anothen, from above), then our flesh loses
its authority and power over us and we return to God by repentance and faith. When
God's Holy Spirit sets up God's throne in our spirit, the evil flesh is destroyed and loses
its authority and power (Ephesians 2:4-7; 2 Peter 1:3-4). The Christian crucifies the flesh
rule over his soul (psyche) and body (soma) and replaces the sinful reign of the flesh
with the righteous reign of the Spirit, as God takes up residence and control of our wills,
our minds, our emotions and our physical lives under Heaven's divine pattern
(Philippians 3:7-11 Philippians2: 12-13; 1 Thess.5:23-24 ). This is our true life,
everlasting and eternal, being alive forever in Christ, to worship and follow God's
heavenly kingdom, both now and forever, even after this world passes and the new
heavens and earth appear in perfection.

This devilish mixture makes for a tumultuous life, but we need not be concerned because the
Bible says in 1 John 4:4, "He that is within you is greater than he that is in the world."

Chapter One
1st Part to Daily Prayer:
Thanksgiving

The secret to our Christian walk is to know the way in which the enemy is causing us trouble.
You cannot defeat an enemy that you cannot see and do not know. You cannot defeat Satan
unless you are aware of his entire program: how he operates directly in person and indirectly
through the world and how he has an enemy, your flesh, inside of you.

Your flesh is continually involved in working against you. It takes on different forms such as:
1) The nice person (hypocrite, suppressing evil without crucifying it)
2) The nasty person (openly evil without masking your evil)
3) The selfish, vain person (not appearing good or evil, just wasting time in worldly affairs)

All three of these are vying for control of your life: the devil, the world and your flesh, which are
operating the many different persons inside of you. It is difficult to determine which one is at
work at any given time. At times you might try to use the flesh to kill the flesh; however, the
flesh cannot die except by the Spirit. We must learn the proper way to crucify the flesh, as well
as all the ways that do not crucify the flesh. Confession of sin is not always crucifixion of the
flesh. When we confess sin, we sometimes imagine that we are getting free because of the act
of our confessing it. In fact, we find that we are not free after all. Every confession is not
necessarily true confession.

Romans is a wonderful book. In the eighth chapter, we learn how to sort out complicated
matters in our Christian walk. Romans is a difficult book to understand and many despair and
give up. However, if you follow it very closely, you will find that it moves along simply and
logically. Romans could be explained to you and you may or may not understand it. But
explanations are useless unless you already know something. When you know about
something and then are given an explanation, already having an understanding, then your
comprehension is complete.

7
It is vitally important for you to begin every day in prayer. God has a specific design for our
prayer life so that it will be the most effective for us. The first thing He wants us to do is to be
thankful; begin each day with thanksgiving. Do not first try to understand why you are doing this;
just do it. Make a commitment to begin each day by being thankful. Psalm 100:4 says, '1 will
enter His gates with thanksgiving in my heart." In this verse, God clearly wants us to begin with
thanksgiving. A thankful person will not be a sinful person. If you are grateful and are living in
thanksgiving, you have already taken the first ster;> to being in line with God's will for your day.
Most people are not thankful. However, that is precisely the reason why God starts us out in
this way. Most people have gripes, complaints, anger, bitterness, jealousy and fear in their
souls rather than thanksgiving. This is the reason God says for us to come to Him with a
thankful heart. He will not explain to us the reason beforehand; He just wants us to do it by
faith. God does not want for us to wait until we feel thankful; rather, He wants us to just say it;
He wants us to thank Him for everything.

We can begin by thanking Him for father, mother, family, friends, jobs, people, nature, and
everything else including even our problems and enemies. Thank God for everything~ Children
know how to give thanks. The easiest prayer in the world is thanksgiving. Everybody can thank
God. When you begin to thank God for everything, it will change your life. He wants you to be
continually thankful. Begin your day every morning with thanksgiving to God.

Here are a few examples of praying the prayer of thanksgiving:

1) Thank you, Lord that I am alive!

2) Thank you, Lord for my salvation!
3) Thank you for my father, my mother, my husband, my wife, etc.!

The incredible thing about thanksgiving is that, not only is it the way God wants for you to begin
your prayer time with Him, but this is the way God wants you to be continually; He wants you to
always be at rest in His finished work. Wait until you enter into that rest before you begin to
praise, worship, adore and petition Him. Do not do anything until you are completely at rest
first. Always get the victory first before you start the war. If you are in a mess and start praying
in defeat, you will never get out of it. It is imperative that you start in victory. Take your eyes off

8
yourself; thanksgiving has nothing to do with you. When you keep your focus entirely upon Him,
you will thank Him for everything. "Faith is the victory that overcomes the world. " 1 John 5 :4

The most important thing for which to thank God is for the provision of your salvation. Forget
the fact that He created the world, or even that you might have recently gotten something in
your life that you always wanted. The issue is to thank God for saving you. This is what the
Bible is all about. The Bible focuses on salvation. Thank Him that you are saved and that you
are going to Heaven. Thank Him that He is pleased with yQu and that He likes you just as you
are; that alone will cause you to rest.

If you thank Him for the things He has done, there is the possibility that you might think of
something else you want. At that point, you get bogged down and your focus on God fades.
You might be fearful that the thing you just thanked Him for could be taken away. If you thank
Him for healing you and the pain returns, you may think of retracting that statement of
thanksgiving. Therefore, thank Him for salvation because it is finished (John 19:30). Some
people are not sure if they are thankful that God created them and may hate the day they were
born, so it would be very difficult to be thankful in that case. However, salvation is always
something you can thank God for because it is a spiritual gift that He has already accomplished
for you before you were even born.

10
2"d Part to Daily Prayer:
Praise

The next thing God wants you to do in order to have a healthy prayer life is to praise Him. You
thank God for what He has done; you praise Him for who He is. This is what the boo~ of
Romans is all about. This is what the Christian life is all about. This is the simpliclty of God's
will for you. If you understand this one thing, you will be well on your way. Just trust God and
pray, using His design and protocol for prayer. Authority is to declare what God says without
explaining it. Teaching is explaining what God has just said and you simply respond, "Amen. I'll
do it."

Let us review: thank God for what He has done; praise Him for who He is. Here are a few of the
many attributes of God which describe who He is:

1) He is merciful
2) He is holy
3) He is mighty
4) He is majestic
5) He is wonderful
6) He is all in all

Here you are not thanking Him for what He has done; but rather, you are praising Him for who
He is. Everything that He accomplished for you, He did so because He is all of those things on
your behalf. Because He is merciful, holy, mighty, majestic and wonderful, He has done
everything for you on the Cross. I thank Him because He is for me. He is on my side (Romans
8:31 ). I do not thank Him because He helps other people; I thank Him because He likes me. It
is important that I first see that He likes me. Most Sunday school children are taught, "Put
Jesus first, others second, yourself last." It sounds pious, but it happens to be misleading. Hear
God's Word which states, "Love your neighbor as you love yourself." Matthew 19 ' 19 How can you
love your neighbor unless you love yourself first? If you are starving, how can you help others?
If you are drowning, how can you rescue another? You must first take care and preserve
yourself. The world knows this, as well. The world thinks that Christians always deny

11
themselves. They are surprised when they hear the good news that you lnust love yourself first.
You cannot love your neighbor unless you love yourself first. The rxact measure of the
effectiveness of my life to others is the extent to which I first love myself" The measure of my
love to myself is determined by the extent to which I know and believe tt:Jat God loves me. "We
I

love because we first loved us. " 1John 4:19

God is for you! Now, praise Him for who He is. Say something like this: "God, I praise You
because You are high and lifted up. You are majestic!" A good time to praise Hirn is when you
are in the car. Sing in tongues; sing in English. Shout and make noise. When you do this, it
builds you up. You are joyful and at rest because you are thankful. Secondly, you have praised
'God for who He is and He loves this. In fact, the Bible says in Psalm 22:3, "God dwells in the
praises of His people. " When you begin to praise the Lord, He will hover over you and remain
with you. You will discover that you are not only peaceful and at rest because of what He has
done, but you will find that you are in His presence when you begin to praise Him for who He is.

12
Praise

13
3rd Part to Daily Prayer:
Adoration

The next part of God's design for your prayer time with Him is for you to adore Him, to worship
Him and express your love for Him. This is simply saying that you love Him. There is no need
to find new ways of telling Him of your love. You can tell Him you love Him thousands of times
and God will not care. He is blessed by your expressions of love for Him. We never tire of
hearing our husband or wife tell us that they love us, nor do they get tired of hearing it from us.
God loves to hear how much we love Him, as well. A simple "I love you" will work. Expressions
of your adoration of Him are what He loves to hear.

Simply say "God, You are so wonderful! I love you so much!" Up to now you have prayed,
thanking God for what He has done for you, praising Him for who He is; this is a completely
passive prayer. When you tell Him how much you love Him and adore Him, your prayer is now
becoming active. You did not start out by telling Him you loved Him, but now it is time to take
an active part in your prayer time. Faith begins with thanks and praise and ends in love.

The first two steps, thanksgiving and praise, were about God and what He has done for you and
how great He is. There was no focus on you at all. These firstthree steps, including adoration,
are focused entirely on God. You are thanking God; you are praising Him; you are adoring,
worshiping and loving God. He knows that this is essential for you to get right with Him at the
start so that you can be at rest and be free.

Therefore, the first thing you do every morning as you wake up is to focus upon God; do not
focus on yourself yet, because you will become depressed right way. Postpone your feelings
until later. Begin by saying, "Oh, God, You are so great because You first loved me; You died
for me; You have saved me! Hallelujah!"

It is important that you do not wait until you feel like saying these prayers. You do not have to
feel it; just say it. Just say, "God, thank you for saving me." This makes you feel good already.
The more times you say it, the better you will feel. Say it over and over again until it sinks into

14
your soul. Then, when the peace comes, go on to praise: "I Praise You for being faithful and
trustworthy," and all of the other wonderful things that God is. Thirdly, adore Him. If you have
really done the first one, then the second one correctly, what might happen is that you might
actually feel the presence of God. That is an incredible thing! You actually begin adoring Him
and you will feel the Holy Spirit take over. Now, that does not have to happen; you can merely
do it by faith. You can thank and praise without any emotion whatsoever: "Thank You for saving
me. I am very grateful. I praise You for being wonderful, holy and just. I adore You. I love
You." You can say it as cold as that and that is okay. It is better than not doing it. That is good
enough and will still build up your spirit man. However, your spirit man, praying like that, is not
built up enough until you say it more. So if you say it a few more times, it will eventually spill
into your emotions.

In the end, what you want from prayer is to meet God. Spend the time it takes to really
experience God. If you waste five more minutes with God, it could save you three or four hours
during your day. This time spent with God could save you the whole day. To have God touch
you or for you to touch God, to be in contact with the living God, can make you so bright,
energetic and powerful throughout your day; it is worth the time spent.

15
Adoration

16
4th Part of Daily Prayer:
Confession of Sin
The fourth step in God's design for your prayer life is confession of sin. Every time you see
God, you will see your sinfulness. You will certainly be the most aware during the time you are
proclaiming how much you love Him with all your soul. Then you will think of how you really do
not love Him with all of your soul after all, but only part of it. Right away, you will see a sin that
contradicts your unreserved proclamation. When you are telling God how much you love your
neighbors, you will immediately think of something you hate about one of them. Your sin will
surface, even though you are not looking for your sin at the time. Not looking at sin exposes
sin. When you are looking at God, suddenly you see all of your sin. In fact, if you are looking
for your sin, you will only lie to yourself. You find your sin only by looking at the Savior, your
Beloved. You will find your sin when you are in love. Interestingly, the moment you are caught
up in the glory of God is when your sin - the real sin - comes out and it is never the one you
think it is. Actually, the one you think is your sin is the one the devil points out to you so that he
can keep you in sin. If you are focused on the wrong sin, you will never get to the bottom. If
you do not get to the bottom, there is no point in confessing. Why would you confess a sin that
is not the real sin, when you will not mean it? For example, if you thought your sin was that you
are angry at God, you might confess it as a sin, but it is not your real sin so it will not work
because you will still be angry later. Regardless of this knowledge, confess the ones that come
to mind anyway. Teach this to your children, as well.

Someone once said, "Confession is good for the soul." However, this may not be a true
statement. Confession is good for the soul only if it is based on the convicting work of the Holy
Spirit. The only way confession is good for your soul is if it is true confession of your real sin.
Otherwise, confession is destructive to the soul. Many times when you confess. your sin, if it is
not real, but hollow, you may as well not have done it. If you confess a sin that the Holy Spirit
has not convicted you of, not only are you merely playing games, but you are building up the sin
of hypocrisy and you will be living a lie. People may think that confessing is a good thing, but it
could possibly be putting you into further bondage. Continue to look at your Lord in adoration
and wait for the Holy Spirit to reveal to you your sin. We must confess only what God convicts
us of.

Confession of Sin

19
5th Part of Daily Prayer:
Confession of Righteousness

Confession of sin should always be followed by the fifth step in God's design for your prayer life:
confession of righteousness. As you really see the Lord, you will then know what your real sin
is when the Holy Spirit reveals it to you. When you confess the real sin, immediately God wants
you to confess that He has forgiven you and therefore, you are clean so that you can now
confess your righteousness. At that moment, you are absolutely and totally perfect. However,
you must realize that if there is still even a small sin left in you when you say the words, "I am
absolutely perfect," it will, at that moment, be exposed. Not only does adoration of the Lord
expose sin, but the declaration of your righteousness will bring it out. Declare boldly, "Lord, I
am right with all men!" This is a statement that is guaranteed to expose your sin. Making
extravagant statements like this is very good for you. Another example is, "I love everybody,
just like You do." This will also expose your sin. Confession of righteousness is good. Confess
that you are now perfect- spirit, soul and body. Immediately you will remember things. This is
a very interesting method that God wants you to use so that you can be at rest and totally free in
your inner man.

The first three - thanksgiving, praise, adoration - are food for your spirit. The next two -
confession of sin and confession of righteousness - are for your soul and they actually change
you. The last three are for your outer life and conduct in this world.

Confession of Righteousness

6th Part to Daily Prayer:
Petition

Petition with your mouth, is something that you ask God to do for you. Thus far, you have
followed God's design and you know these things:

1) You know that He loves you and has saved you.

2) You have praised Him for being loving, holy, merciful and mighty.
3) You have loved and adored Him and worshiped Him from your heart.
4) You have seen your true sin and have confessed it as the Holy Spirit convicted you.
5) You have confessed your righteousness and know you are perfect in God's sight.

You still need help to get through your day. God wants you to petition Him for the things you
need today. Ask Him to bring your daily bread, to give you wisdom, to give you victory over all
your enemies so that this day you will see the neck of your enemies beneath your feet. Petition
Him for everything today. You do not know if you will be alive tomorrow, so do not postpone
asking Him for anything that He brings to your mind. Why would you ask your Father for
crumbs when He is the Creator of the universe? Do not ask for mere crumbs; be extravagant
and ask Him for everything. He told us, "Ask and it will be given. "John 16 :24 When you petition
God for yourself, it is self-love, not selfishness. Selfishness has already been taken care of in
your confession of sin. Petitioning God is a vital part of His design for your prayer life.

Petition

23
7th Part to Daily Prayer:
Intercession

After petition, God wants you to intercede for your neighbor and ask blessings for those who are
in your life. He wants you to pray for your mother, father, husband, wife, children, pastor, the
Church, all the saints, the world and your enemies. You begin to intercede for everyone in the
world, as the Spirit leads you. You could pray a general prayer, but God would rather you be
specific. Being that you are a real person, you will need to start out with some actual names.
Pray for those in close proximity to your life. As you begin to intercede, the Holy Spirit will put
upon your heart certain people for whom to pray. You need not pray every day for the mayor,
the President, etc. That would take a long time. Besides, God is not impressed with many
words (Ecclesiastes 5:7). In addition, do not get under condemnation, thinking that if you were
a serious Christian you would get up at three in the morning and have a mile-long list to pray
over. It is important to pray by the Spirit. Sometimes He may have a long list and other times
He may not.

Intercession is one of our highest callings. To intercede for the saints, the lost, the Jews, your
enemies, your family and friends is a powerful ministry. You will see that when you spend time
in intercession it will be.gin to change your behavior. This is God's way of behavior modification.
When you spend time with God thanking, praising and adoring Him, you will begin to change
outwardly. When you are changed, your behavior will change. The behavioral modification that
is used in our school systems today is wrong. You cannot behaviorally modify by changing
your soul, because you cannot change yourself. The only way to change your self is to look at
God. Steps one, two and three (thankfulness, praise and adoration) affects steps four and five
(confession of sin and confession of righteousness). The only way to change the soul is to not
change it, but to look at God, who is unchanging. God, who is the same yesterday, today and
forever amazingly changes you. In 2 Corinthians 3:16-18, the Bible says, "But we all, with open

face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from glory
to glory, even as by the Spirit ofthe Lord." Immediately, change takes place. You do not even
have to work at it.

8th Part to Daily Prayer:
Commitment

The last part to daily prayer is commitment. After you have gone through God's design for your
prayer life, you then declare _to the Lord that you are ready to obey all that He has commanded.
You submit to obey Him as His disciple. You surrender your will to His. You deny yourself.
You take up your cross in order to follow Him. In this way, all of your sin will come to the
surface l5ecause your old man does not want to commit to follow Jesus. But your new man in
Christ does want to commit to obey Jesus and do His will. Give yourself to Him to do whatever
He has for you to do that day. Say to Him, "Here I am Lord, send me. " Isaiah e:s Of course, this
commitment is Christ in you. In Galatians 2:20 the Bible describes this part of your daily walk
with God like this: "I am crucified with Christ: nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ liveth in
me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God, who loved me,
and gave Himselffor me. " When you lose your life by giving it to Him, you actually find it. This
is done by the power of the Holy Spirit dwelling in you and working in you and leading you to
become like Christ in all that you do. You are no longer living your life on your own power;
Jesus is living through you. However, you walk it out by faith, because you may not feel Jesus
in you wanting to go forth. You may not feel like obeying God; you may not feel like praying or
praising God. This is the reason that you begin with Step 1: remembering all the things He has
done for you and then you realize that you should be doing a few things. This is the way all
your sin surfaces. Then you remember that you are made righteous through faith in Jesus'
atoning blood on your behalf. For this reason, He will reckon you to be truly righteous in His
sight. True righteousness, such as God desires is not that righteousness which comes from our
obedience under the law, but is that righteousness by which we have faith in His righteousness
for us. It is no longer you that are living your life, but Christ is living His life through you to
accomplish God's purposes, "because He is in you to will and to do of God's good pleasure".
That is your new life in Christ. That is what it means to be a Christian. That is your commitment
to God each day to do His will and not yours. You are born of the spirit to be filled with the Spirit
so that you may be lead of the Spirit. To God be the Glory!

26
Are you the happiest person on the face of the earth? If not, then it is sin. Is there any sadness
or misery in your life? If so, then it is sin. Take care of the sin and you can continue on as God
would have you to do.

Let us review the 8 parts to daily prayer in God's design:

1. Thanksgiving
2. Praise
3. Adoration
4. Confession of Sin
5. Confession of Righteousness
6. Petition
7. Intercession
8. Commitment

Let us examine these steps more closely. The first step is everything. Why do we begin with
thanksgiving? We thank God because He is a God of love. We are not thanking Him because
He is holy and righteous in Himself, condemning our sins and imperfection. We thank Him
because although we are by nature imperfect and ungodly in our performance, yet by His great
love and mercy, He offers forgiveness. Although He hates our sin and lawlessness, he loves us
and if we believe that He is ready to forgive us, then He will reckon us to be truly righteous in
His sight. True righteousness, such as God desires is notthat righteousness which comes from
our obedience under the law but is that righte«;>usness by which we are made righteous through
faith in Jesus atoning blood on our behalf. That is God's unconditional love.

We thank Him for one reason: He did something for us. It is not that He is going to do
something for us or that maybe He could do something for us. We thank Him for what He has
already done. Thanksgiving is the key to everything. If God has conditional love and requires
that we do everything right, then we will not be thankful. If this is the case, we have nothing for
which to thank Him. When we do something right, then we expect Him to praise, help and bless
us. However, if He blesses and loves us for no reason and there is no condition that we ever
have to meet for Him to still love us, then we will be continually thankful. Especially, when
taking into account the fact that there is no way to get to Heaven except through being perfect.
Since that is the case, we need His help. However, He will not help our flesh. He wants to
crucify our flesh so that He can do it all Himself and give us the benefit, while He gets all the
glory.

27
It is vitally important that we know this about God, because even before we have done one
thing, He has already given us everything. He gives us the gift before we ever begin doing
anything. "We actually live," as the Bible declares, "by everything that God has done and by
every word that proceeds out of His mouth." Matthew 4:4 We have never seen God, but the Bible
declares it. Throughout the Bible, God declares His unconditional love. When I hear this and
understand it, then immediately, in my heart, faith comes forth and I believe. For some,
however, this brings forth doubt and unbelief.

Everyone will have one of the only two responses in this life - to live either by faith or by doubt.
You are living every second of your life either by faith or by doubt. You either doubt God love,
or you believe it. If you are clear on this one thing, then you are clear on everything in the
world. If this is the only thing you will ever learn in this life, learn this well: God loves you -
unconditionally. That is difficult to comprehend and you want to put it to the test as you look at
unpleasant and disturbing things in your life and it does not appear that He loves you. You
begin to remember all the times that you have asked Him to do something that He did not do for
you. When you think on it, you may conclude that He must not love you. You begin to look at
your parents, your marriage, your own make-up and circumstances, and it may seem obvious
that He could not possibly love you or He would do something about it. However, this is the
very reason that He wrote the Bible for us. He knew that we would forget what He said. He
knew it had to be written down so that we would not forget it. He made sure that it was written
throughout the Bible how much He loves us and that He loves us unconditionally. He has
always loved us and He will always love us. The only response He requires from us is that we
believe it. Some people do not believe this, but true Christians believe this. However, the
exciting part about His unconditional love is that we can know the truth of it in our hearts and we
believe, in spite of what our minds are thinking. Our soul is made up of our mind, will and
emotions, which affects our behavior- our body.

At the beginning of this booklet, we began with behavior and instructed you how God wants you
to do these eight steps. However, if your soul is out of line, you will not do them. Even though
you may be born again and have a happy heart, your soul is always working against you. It is
as if there are two conflicting people inside of you. One side of you says, "Amen!" and is excited
about your walk with the Lord. Nevertheless, the other side of you says, "Oh me! I don't want
to do it." We want to be sure to always focus on the first side.

CHAPTER TWO
8 PARTS TO DAILY PRAYER
Spirit - Man VS. Soul- Man

Inside of you, there may be four different people. First of all, there is the spiritual person with a
mind, will and emotions. This comes straight from your heart because this is where the Spirit of
God lives (1Cor.6:17). This is a childish picture or analogy that is very simple in order to help
you remember these truths. God the Father, Jesus the Son and the Holy Spirit all get into your
heart through what you hear and read from the Bible. They sit on a throne and live in your heart,
and you are very excited that God is there now. However, nobody has ever seen their heart;
you could not cut your heart open and find Him there, but He is actually there. Because of His
presence there, your heart is having a wonderful time, but you cannot feel your heart. Your soul
does feel; it has emotions, thoughts and desires. However, your heart is deeper than the soul.
God is hidden in the heart and only the Bible can tell you what your heart is like as a Christian.
The differences in the soul and the heart are very complex. Psychology will try to explain it
using reason as a foundation. This is why psychology is absolutely superficial and worthless -
in fact, a lie. The mysteries of the heart are hidden in God. They are not known to man apart
from the revelation of the Bible. The things of God are not known by the natural mind, will and
emotions. (1 Corinthians 2:9-16).

The Bible divides between psychology (pseuche), which is the soul, and spirit (pneuma).
Hebrews 4:12 says, "For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any two-
edged sword, piercing even unto the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and
marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents ofthe heart." You must divide between
who you are (spiritual) and where you are. If your focus is on God (thanking, praising and
adoring Him in the Spirit), then your soul will be transformed, changing where you are.
"Beholding Him we are changed from one degree of glory to another." The reason you begin
your day with thanksgiving, praise and adoration of God is to bring yourself to the right place

30
with your focus on who God is and what He has done for you. You will then see that your new
man of the heart will be built up and you will begin to experience what a big effect it has on your
soul. This is how you are built up in your new man, putting to death your old man -
transforming you from spirit, soul and body in Christ.

Your soulish man is made up of three parts- your will, mind and emotions- and they are all
against your spirit man where the Spirit of the Lord is in residence. Your soul is not your spirit.
These two must be clearly distinguished (Hebrews 4: 12). The old man of the flesh ~truggles
with the new man of the spirit for control of your soul (Romans 7:6-25). Your hypocritical,
religious self goes to church and says he loves God. Your vain, selfish man does his own thing,
but is not particularly wicked. Then there is your wicked, despicable, nasty self. All of these
add up to what the Bible calls man at his best state (Psalm 39:5). We live constantly with all of
these states. There are times we are nasty, but we hide it, which is our hypocritical self. At
other times we waste time watching television, which is our vain self. With all of these different
states operating in you; it is very difficult to get past them to find which one is the real you.
Whichever one is acting out at any given time will affect your behavior. The soul needs to be
purified of the flesh.

You must sort through all of these different states in order to begin to thank, praise and adore
God, because none of them want to spend time in worship. You must go straight from your
heart and skip through your soul, jumping over it, and fearlessly declare your love for the Lord.
You can do this simply in faith as an act of your will. However, this is not actually crucifying the
flesh; it is still there. You must battle the voices that war against your spirit during your worship,
telling you that you do not love God at all. These voices reside in the soul. They must not be
allowed to reign. The new man of the spirit must conquer the old man of the soul by the eight
steps of prayer until the old man is crucified in fact. This battle must take place every day. The
Apostle Paul writes, "I die daily." I Corinthians 15 :31 When the new man beholds Christ, then the old
man will fight to oppose Christ from ruling the soul. But, Truth will always overcome honesty.
The truth of the spirit will destroy the honesty of the soul. I will say to myself, "Self, you are not
in control, you will submit to the truth of Jesus Christ. I am a new creature in Christ. You are an
old creation apart from Christ. You will not rule. Jesus Christ is Lord. If anyone be in Christ, he
is a new creation: the old has passed away, the new has come. Therefore, I will worship God
and love my neighbor until you are dead and put up no more resistance. Glory to God!" You
must aggressively crucify all of the other voices because they are fighting against you. You must

31
build up your spirit man before you tackle your behavior. For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall
die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live. Romans 8 : 13

Immediately your flesh will begin to act up, telling you that you do not love God at all (Romans
8:7). The hypocritical voice will try to convince you to just say a little prayer to Jesus on a
prayer bench. The vain one reminds you to brush your teeth. The wicked one wants to act out.
It is very hard to put this together, but you must purify all of this before you wake up and get
ready for the day. Begin your day with thanking, praising and adoring God. This will ruin the
day for your soulish man. If you had done all the things your soul was compelling you to do, it
would have taken over and you would have lived in the flesh all day. However, the minute you
introduce the idea of being happy in the Lord, you have ruined it for your soul and the war with
your spirit commences. It would be easier for you to leave God out of it, and indulge your self-
pity, anger, ranting at God, etc., anything that expresses your flesh. All of those things are in
you. Your "best state" is altogether vanity whether you are expressing your sin, or suppressing
your sin or repressing your sin. It is necessary to crucify your sin and in order to purify your
soul. This is what happens when you follow the 8 Parts of Daily Prayer (2 Corinthians 7:1 ).

It is interesting that whether we act wickedly or hypocritically, it is the same thing to God; there
is no difference (Roman.s 3:9-20; Isaiah 64:6) The hypocritical ones are merely lying, while the
wicked ones are honest. In your flesh - and we all have a flesh - dwells no good thing (Romans
7:18). There is hatred, unhappiness, pride, anger, lust, self-pity, jealousy, hypocrisy, etc. They
will all try to control your life. Pride can control your life; anger can be in charge and cause
great damage; lust can dominate you and make you do its will. Envy can ruin a Christian's life;
self-pity can destroy a Christian, as well. Which one controls you?

If you are a Christian, how is it that your life can be controlled by your flesh? It is because we
allow our flesh to rule. Rather than spend time with God, we look to ourselves or to others for
help. If we look to people for help, we will always be let down. Never look at people or the
world for help. Always and only keep your eyes on Jesus. "He was tempted in all things as we
are, yet without sin. "Hebrews 4: 15 That is why He knew that it was important that we have His word
so that we could be strengthened. God never said that this was going to be a perfect world
without trouble. The Bible speaks very strongly concerning this:
James 1:2 , 3 "Count it all joy when you fall into various trials and temptations."
John 16 :33 "In the world you have trouble. Rejoice!"

32
Matthew 5:11 · l2"Bfesse d are ye when men s hall revz"le you, an d persecute you, an d shall say all

manner of evil against you falsely, for My sake. Rejoice and be exceeding glad ... "
. Philippians 4 :4"Rejoice in the Lord always. "
God is very remarkable in that He wants you to live like this, but it ruins your flesh. When God
wakes you up in the morning and tells you to smile, it is the last thing your flesh wants to do.
We do not feel like praising Him. Just recognize that this is your flesh, not your spirit. You know
by faith that your flesh is dead, but, in fact it is very easily stirred up. God does not want us to
repress all of this flesh and say that it doesn't exist. Rather, He wants you to bring it out in the
open and expose it. Since you have spent time loving God and being built up in Him, you are
no longer afraid. Now it is safe to look at all your flesh and you realize that it is all merely in
your soul. Moreover, once your flesh is exposed and you are looking at it, you just confess it
and then, it will be truly crucified in the light of Jesus. Jesus' light and truth will destroy pride,
anger, lust, self-pity, fear, envy and doubt and every other sin of the flesh. "He that is in me is
greater than he that is in the world. "1John 4 :4

Examine your flesh closely, not superficially, but all the way to its deep roots, as the Holy Spirit
reveals it. The first time your flesh surfaces, you could see your hypocrisy, thinking that you
have not prayed as much as you should have and you want to make up for it. It sounds very
pious, but it is merely hypocrisy on the surface; it is not the depth or the core of your sin. When
the Holy Spirit is finished, you will see the depth of your sin and then you can confess it. Never
confess a sin that you only see superficially. Ask the Holy Spirit to show you the depth of your
sin. "Lord, if there be any wicked way in me, reveal it". Psalm 139:24 Go all the way to its depth,
which is total hatred against God, total envy and hatred. Test yourself to see if you are really
that nasty, terrible and wicked. The Bible says we are wicked. It does not say we are merely
vain and hypocritical. In fact, the Bible says that hypocrisy is a mask. God says that our "best
state" does not even exist. "Man at his best state is altogether vanity." Psalm 39 :5 Your
hypocritical, religious self is altogether vanity, which in turn, is wickedness. When you boil it all
down, it turns out that you really hate God and have not one ounce of love for Him- that is in
your flesh, your natural man, your old man. However, you know that this is not you, so you are
not afraid to look at your flesh or your sin.

When you begin to look at your flesh and all of its different natures, they will all attack you. But
give the flesh as much strength as he wants so you can get down to the root of your sin. Your

33
flesh will always expose your superficial sins first. You must go beyond the superficial to the
root. For example, when your flesh tells you that you do not like someone, call it deliberate
hatred of that person and you will be getting closer to the truth. Your flesh wants to see them
dead, but in fact, the deeper truth is that you want to be God as well as see them destroyed.
Then go deeper still and you find the root is that you want to be God and you want God dead. It
takes a long time to see how sinful sin is. Our sin must become exceedingly sinful to us before
we can truly receive the grace of God from the heart. (Romans 7:13, 18, 24)

The purpose of the Law was never to talk you into being nice; it was only to expose your sin
(Romans 3:20; 5:20). That is why God gave Jesus as His free gift so that we would have hope.
Everything is a gift (Romans 5:15-18; Ephesians 2:8). In life, all God wants is for people to be
like children (Matthew 18:3). He does not want us to be sophisticated; He simply wants us to be
humble. "Blessed are the poor in spirit. " Matthew 5 :3 God wants us to enjoy life and know that it is
simply a gift. Come unto Me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take
My yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto
your souls. For My yoke is easy, and My burden is light. Matthew 11 :28 -30

To live your life in complete faith and joy, you must be blind and disregard what you see in
circumstances. You cannot determine logically how it works, just believe anyway. We must
accept by faith in the word of God that this life is the best that we could have ever hoped for
(John 16:33). Once you believe, you will not need to see it, because you will believe before you
see it. Even if you never see the evidence of this wonderful life, it will make no difference to you
because you already believe it. Interestingly, when you believe, you will see evidence of the life
that God wants for you, even though you do not see the fullness of it. If the Bible says you have
a perfect marriage, then you agree with God even while your flesh argues.

Eventually, you will get to the bottom of all your lies and you will discover that you have no faith
(psychological, human faith) inside of you at all. The spirit man has to crucify all the lying voices
of the vain, hypocritical and wicked flesh. You need only declare that Jesus is Lord. The
exposure that there is nothing good inside you is very good to know, because when the
realization comes, you will be able to confess it to the Lord and know that it is not you, but your
flesh (Romans 7:17-25). Then you can ask forgiveness and be pure before the Lord. If you
have indeed seen the depth of your sin, it is very powerful. If it is simply superficial, then it is
meaningless, empty words (Jeremiah 17:9). However, if you have seen the horror and depth of

34
your sin, as a Christian who loves God, and that there is nothing in your flesh but hatred of God
(Romans 8:7), then immediately your entire soul is flooded with death and your spirit comes
alive. (Psalm 139:23-24; Psalm 51)

If you build up your new man, which is crucifying your old man, and release your new man to
live through you, that very day you will be walking in the Spirit. You will no longer be unstable in
all your ways with multiple personalities defining and describing you. Finally, you are no longer
living in contradiction. You will be single-minded and not double -minded and confused.
(James 1:8; Isaiah 26:3)

What God wants every day of our lives is for us to walk in purity. "Put on the new man and put
off the old. " Ephesians 4 :24 The only way to do this is for you to be changed and it is impossible to
change with two or three people living inside you. You must have a war with your flesh and win.
In your prayer time, do not go from your heart quickly to your outer conduct, avoiding the soul
(suppressing and ignoring your flesh while you go about your business). Your flesh will
eventually surface again. First, crucify all the flesh that is in your soul before moving on to
something else. You must purify your soul every day by simply looking at Jesus. Spend time
thanking Him, praising Him, adoring Him, worshiping Him and listening to Him. Trust God to
reveal your sin to you. As He shows it to you, acknowledge it and continue praising Him and
you will see the depth of your sin. As you are praising Him, confess it and it is gone. Just by
seeing your sin and how wicked you are, there is already a partial freedom. As a child of God,
He would help you to know that the sin you are seeing is not who you are. There is no need to
fear when you realize that there is no good thing in you, (Romans 7:18) because you know that
you are loved for no reason at all. (Romans 3:23-24) Now you can be sincerely thankful from
your heart for everything He is and for the glorious salvation He has provided you.

After years of your own life experience, interpreted by psychology, suppose that you discover
that your spouse does not love you. How do you react to that supposition now that you
understand the battle that is going on between your soul and spirit? This discovery means
nothing; it is now unimportant; in fact, it is a lie. It would only be important to a romanticist.
Jesus gives you your husband/wife and He would not give you a faulty one or one that is
second best. They may look, act, speak and feel faulty, but it is not actually true because you
are worthy of the best; Jesus would not give you second best. When you realize this, you can
be excited about your spouse. God would not make a mistake, deceive or fool you. Even if you

35
married in the flesh and did not ask God before you were a Christian, God knows the end from
the beginning and is able to transform any relationship by the power of the Holy Spirit. You
cannot go by sight. Trust God. What the enemy intended for evil, God will turn to good. As you
begin to open your eyes to the truth that your life is hid with Christ in God (Colossians 3:1-3),
you will be amazed at how perfect your spouse is for you. It could be puzzling if you look at
obvious exterior things about them, because it will not look as if they are perfect - in fact, they
look anything but perfect. However, the Bible says that your natural mind understands nothing,
your emotions are wrong, and your desires are off. God wants you simply by faith to be
satisfied with your spouse. You do not need anything or anyone else; you need no distractions.
All you need is God (Genesis 15:1 ). When you understand and submit to that truth, you are
totally fulfilled.

The question is always: do you believe? This is the issue, because there are other voices
saying things that contradict God's Word, which you don't want to believe. You can test this
truth that God is saying and get new eyes. You can see the way Jesus sees. You will then
know that sure enough, He is right. If you believe, you will see. (John 11 :40) You actually have
experiences that will prove to you that you are truly in love with your husband or wife. This is
what happens when you crucify these voices of the flesh. It does not mean that they will stop
trying to control you; indeed, they will come back again the next day after you say you are in
love. They will take their battle positions again telling you that you do not love your mate, after
all. If you listen to these voices, you will agree that you did not love them; you may have
thought you did yesterday, but not today. Today you find yourself hating them. Now, you are
back to the same predicament that had you miserable and unhappy before. Now you have to
decide again whom you are going to believe. Joshua 24:15

You must decide who you are going to believe. Are you going to believe God or your flesh? If
you go to a psychologist for help, the best he could do would be to get you from wickedness to
hypocrisy, or from hypocrisy to wickedness. If you were a real hypocrite, he could say that you
have a lot of hatred in you. You have only wasted your money to get someone to tell you what
you knew all along. He would add that you hated your father or mother and that all your
ancestors that came before surely must have been dysfunctional. Or, you could be very wicked
and he could show you that really you are a decent person, after all. After you have paid a lot of
money, you discover that you are not so bad. It is simply all game-playing and, indeed,
witchcraft. It is all a lie; none of it is true.

36
The Bible wants to set you free from all of those lies. Every day you must crucify these voices
afresh. You cannot do it in your head; you must actually live it every day. You see why it is so
important to begin every day with thanksgiving, praise and adoration- so that you will see your
sin. You will not want to do it, but that is only your flesh that does not want to worship God; your
new man is excited to worship Him. Therefore, you must win that first battle of the day. Say to
yourself, "I want to praise God; I want to thank God- therefore I will." Just as an act of your will
by faith you can immediately start speaking, creating warfare until it is crucified, until there is not
an ounce of flesh left in your soul, until every voice and thought is eliminated. God will show
you where to go to drive them all out until you get to the core of it and discover all your
nastiness.

Most Christians have illusions that they are decent people and that they are better than others.
But the thing that sobers us is the realization that there is no good thing in us. (Romans 7:18)
Everything that we have is a gift from God. (James 1:17) We may think that we really do love
someone. However, it is a love that is of the flesh. Righteousness of the spirit is not the same
as righteousness of the soul. (Hebrews 4:12). Every day the righteousness of the spirit must
crucify the wickedness of the flesh in the soul until the soul is purified like the spirit. This is
called sanctification of the soul. The truth is that there is nothing good in us. The point is that
God does not want us to suppress, ignore or push this flesh down or say that it does not exist.
Hatred, anger and bitterness are in me (my flesh), but there are certain religions that claim they
do not exist. But they do exist. Some high-faith people say that you are the righteousness of
Christ and that is all you need, but that declaration does not help to free you from all of the
character defects that because of your flesh still exist in your soul and must be crucified. The
world sees that although you say you are the righteousness of Christ, you are also a rotten
sinner. Daily warfare is real and you must deal with it. Although you are the righteousness of
Christ in your spirit man, you are not yet the righteousness of Christ in your soul man and
people will call you a hypocrite because you did not carry on the warfare in your soul until the
inner man and the outer man were under the control of the Holy Spirit.

The Crusaders were people that justified all kinds of atrocities in the name of God. Today
however, we have our own crusades, with different names, and we do the same thing in the
name of God. Christians can do all sorts of things that destroy children, marriages, churches
and families in the name of God. Most of what we do, truthfully, ought to burn as chaff because

37
most of what we do is not born of God, but of flesh. It is the flesh mimicking God, but it is
actually destroying, killing and maiming ourselves and others. (1 Corinthians 3:11-15)

It is freedom to know that in you dwells no good thing. You must get to the bottom of this. Both
Jesus and Paul spoke of this in the Bible. You must understand that there are different selves
inside of you- old selves, Adamic selves. Then there is the new man (of the heart) in you. You
must learn to deal with the differences. However, even if you do not deal with it first, you can
still thank, praise and adore the Lord every day and it will happen anyway. Once you begin to
see for yourself that all of this is inside of you, God will help you begin to deal with it. You will
understand that though you are still sinful in your soul and in your body, but because of your
new man in the spirit, you will eventually be set free, day by day. You will crucify your old self
daily once you see the reality of this freedom. "Reckon yourselves dead unto sin and alive unto
God in Christ Jesus. " Romans 6 :11 The minute you see your sin - to the depth - that is when you
are able to reckon yourself dead.

An example of this is the weeds in your lawn. Some weeds will grow flowers if you do not mow
often enough. However, when you mow the lawn, you cannot see the weeds at all and
everything looks green. If you reckon yourself dead only when you see the top of the flower cut
off, you are not getting to the bottom of your sin. Your sin must be exposed and dug up by the
roots in daily warfare. You want to see the depth of your sin, not just cut the top off so that it
looks good outwardly. You want to actually get rid of your sin. If you live with self-pity, anger,
lust or jealousy, these things will destroy you and those around you; you must get rid of them.
We need people who are dead to the flesh in the Body of Christ. Christians are much too alive
in the flesh and full of indignation; this is not true Christianity. We want people who are dead
and teachable. But of ourselves, this is impossible. The way to die to the flesh is to fall in love
with Jesus. When you experience the peace of God that floods over you, then you are dead to
sin.

"There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after
the flesh, but after the Spirit. For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free
from the law of sin and death. For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the
flesh, God sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the
flesh: ,Romans 8 = 1· 6 In other words, Jesus came down and took on a body like ours, but He did not

38
actually become sinful; He just looked like us .. However, He was like us in every way, except
sin. (Hebrews 2:14-18)

Romans 8 :4 "That the righteousness of the law (which was God's good law, but which we could not
do) might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh (we could not do this in our natural
man), but after the Spirit; (we can do it as vessels because Christ lives in us through the Holy
Spirit)for they that are after the flesh (living in our natural man) do mind the things oftheflesh;
but they that are after the Spirit (that is, God iiving in us) mind the things of the Spirit. For to be
carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace, because the carnal mind
is enmity against God; " Romans 8:5-6 Scripture tells us, contrary to what we may think, that we
have hatred of God because we have a carnal mind. Maybe we think that we should not have a
carnal mind, but it is still there and we must crucify it every day and deal with it. "Because the
carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can it
be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But you are not in the flesh, but in the
spirit. , Romans 8:7

From beginning to end the Christian life is a gift of God, not something that can be merited. Do
not try to be good. God declares us to be righteous because of our faith in his goodness, which
he imputes to us though we did not have any goodness of our own. Only God's goodness is
perfect, and only God can work his perfect goodness in us and through us. By His gift we are
made righteous by faith. With God's goodness at work in you, you are able to crucify the evil
that lies in wait in your soul, by simply looking at Jesus. (2 Corinthians 3:17-18) When you look
at Him, you will see your sin. When you see the sin and confess it, it is dead. (1 John 1:7) Is the
sin really dead? No, it actually is not really dead, but the difference is that it does not rule your
life now. (Romans 6:12) However, now that you realize that you are actually nasty; your spirit
man does not want to live that way. Therefore, you cry out to God to help you and He does.
This is your petition: as soon as you see your sin and cry out to Him, He strengthens you.
(Romans 7:24-25) It is a picture of your spirit, soul and body. When you get right with God in
your spirit (Jesus as Savior), He changes your soul, which is the work of Jesus (through the
Spirit), and changes your behavior, which is Jesus as Lord of your outer conduct, and in this
way the Father is glorified. Jesus not only changes you from the inside, He fills you with His
Holy Spirit to change you outwardly. Then you are actually keeping the law; you are being a
decent person. (Romans 12:2; Ephesians 4:17-24) By the power of the Holy Spirit at work in

39
you, you do have a happy marriage and love your wife/husband. You can feel it, have fun,
enjoy it and bear fruit. You are in reality keeping the law by God. You are not fooled within
yourself that you have suddenly become a decent person. You are the same person you
always were, but you have crucified the old man and allowed the new man, Jesus in you, to
come forth. (Philippians 2: 12-13; 4:13)

Be thankful to God and know that He loves you unconditionally. Not knowing God's love is the
only problem in this world. We do not yet know the uncondjtional and total, absolute love of
God, which will never change and cannot change. Being secure in God's unconditional love is
your foundation, your rock, your resting place and your security. You wake up every morning
and you may not be sure if you still love God, but you know that He still loves you. His Word
says that He loves us still; He speaks the same words, forever unchanging.
"We know that all things work together for the good of them that love the Lord. " Romans 8 :28

"JfGod be for us, who can be against us?"Romans 8:3 l

"Who can separate us from the love of Christ?" Romans 8:35

"We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am persuaded that neither
death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,
nor height, nor depth or any other creature shall be able to separate us from the love of God,
. h ts
w htc . m. Ch nst
. Jesus,
r our Lord. , Romans 8:37-39

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that He loved us, and sent His Son to be the
propitiation for our sins ... God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in
him. Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the Day of Judgment:
because as He is, so are we in this world. There is no fear in love; but perfect love casts out
fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love Him
1 John 4:10, 16-19
because He first loved us.

The love of God cannot be changed; it is our foundation and indeed, our strength. That makes
us become a good minister or husband or friend; whatever is required. Otherwise, we couldn't
do it, because there is nothing good in us apart from Christ. But in Him, we can do all things.
By Him, we can do all things. Through Him, we can do all things. Nothing is impossible to us.

40
(Philippians 4:13) We can love our family, our church, ourselves, our neighbors and our
enemies. We can even die in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:31; Philippians 1:21; Revelation
14:13). We can do it all because He works it in us.

We are not nice by nature. If you have had trouble in your life, it only proves to you what is in
your soul. You discover which is real: your carnal man or your spirit man. If your faith is small
and your fears are big, it does not mean anything. All it shows is that you do not know what you
are doing, and you forgot who you are in your spirit man. (2 Peter 1:9; James 1:22-25) If your
fears are bigger than your faith, do not worry about it. You only need a mustard seed of faith ·
and you can conquer the entire world any day of the year. You only need to know how it works.
The reason you can do it is because your faith is in God, not in yourself and in your ability to
conquer. Your faith is the ability not to look at your carnal man, but looking at Jesus and being
thankful for what He has done for you. (Hebrews 12:2) As you are thankful and begin to praise
Him for who He is, and then to worship and adore Him, pretty soon, your soul becomes a battle
ground between the new man of the spirit and a variety of carnal selves fighting for control.
Each one puts up a fight to see who will win. The carnal selves put up a fight to stay alive
because they know the new spirit man is determined to rule without them. But the more we look
at Jesus, the more they cannot live there. (2 Corinthians 3:18) We are praising the Lord and
the devil hates it and begins to flee because we love God. (Psalm 34:1; 104:33) Looking at our
sin does not make us grow in faith, nor does looking at how big the battle is, but simply to see
what Jesus has done for us. So, we start with thanksgiving and end with thanksgiving - it is
always thanksgiving. We are being thankful all the time. (Psalm 92:1; Colossians 2:7)

God cannot do more for us than He has already done. Do not look at what you see; look
through your faith; look at what the Bible says. You wilt not have faith by looking at this life.
The reason most Christians today are discouraged, disappointed, hurt and confused is because
they are looking at life: either themselves, their neighbor, their parents or family. Let God take
care of all of that. God is bigger and greater than all of your problems. Greater is He that is in
you, than He that is in the world. 1 John 4 :4

The Bible says, "Unless you hate father, mother, husband, wife, brother, sister, even your own
life and your children, you cannot be my disciple. " Luke 14:26 Jesus tells us to look only at Him.

41
The song says, "Turn your eyes upon Jesus and the things of earth will grow strangely dim in
the light of His glory and grace. "

You cannot make it on your own in this life or say with confidence that you can handle your
problems. You cannot handle even the smallest thing. The reason you are in trouble today is
that you thought you were strong. If you have lived the last ten years in bitterness, it is because
you thought you were strong. All God wants to show you is that you are not strong.
(2 Corinthians 12:9-10) He wants to show you that you are a hypocrite when you th_ink you are
capable of handling things on your own. Knowing this should crush you, and your flesh needs
to be crushed. (Mathew 5:3) You were thinking that God dealt you a blow, or that He allowed it,
and He did allow it. You must trust Him, even when you think you can never trust Him again.
Those feelings are understandable, but wrong. (Hebrews 12:5-13}

God is still good regardless of what you may think. Your thinking is wrong. It looks like you are
right to blame Him and that He is wrong, but that thinking comes from your flesh. The flesh
always wants to kill God. Inside of us is an accusation against God - a finger pointed right in
His face saying that He is no good. You could actually build a case against Him. (Isaiah 41:21;
Job 23:1-10) In fact, God wants to find a way to get on your wrong side so that it can be settled
and finally over. God wants you to finally realize that even when you are at your worst He loves
you and that He is on your side. He knows how important it is to you that you get all your anger
and hypocrisy out in the open so that you can be rid of it once and for all. He is not afraid of
your anger, resentment and bitterness and all the other sin that is inside you. He has been
aware of it every day of your life, but He died for all of it and now you are free. He loves you
and wants to bless you. Put me in remembrance: let us plead together: declare thou, that thou
mayest be justified. Isaiah 43:26

Just begin to praise Him and love Him. Do not wait until you understand your circumstances
before you praise Him. Your natural mind will never understand. First, praise Him, thank Him
and worship Him, and then you will understand. The truth will flood in on you and it will be clear.
You will no longer be confused. God will reveal to you the very thing you have asked Him, but
only when you start worshiping and have faith in Him and become quiet. Then He will tell you in
a still, small voice and you will be satisfied (I Kings 19:12). You will finally see it and will have
no more questions. Nobody else will be able to answer your questions, but Him. When you
meet God personally, your questions disappear. He will speak to you specifically about a

42
particular thing that is bothering you and you will see things more clearly and accurately than
you ever have before. Then you will confess and ask God to forgive you for hating Him and
being angry at Him. You will begin to see that He has always been on your side. He
understands that you did not see things in the right perspective. (Job 40:1-5; Psalm 107:25-30)

At the very moment when you hate God the most, when your faith seems beleaguered, this is
when your faith is strongest. Your faith is revealed when you are angry at God, when you have
finally become real with Him. If you are a believer, you already have faith. You don't h<;we to
wait for it. Start walking, talking and living by faith, and you will suddenly see it. You will no
longer just be walking by faith, you will now see it. You will say, "What I have heard with the
hearing of the ear, I have now seen it with the seeing of the eye. " Job 42 :5

God wants you to know that you are blessed! Do not let your testimony speak of how awful
everything appears to the natural eye. He knows that every life will have its share of trials and
tests. God said, "In the world, you will have trouble. " John 16 :33 He never lied to you; He simply
said that He would be with you in the trouble and not only protect you from it, but prosper you.
But do not praise Him until you have thanked Him first. Then, when you begin to praise Him,
God will do all the rest.

The reason we thank, praise and adore Him is because He has done everything, and is doing
everything and shall do everything. To God be the glory!

Father, God, we thank You, in the lovely Name of Jesus. We thank you that this was not an inspirational
teaching; it was just teaching. We just need to get clear, Lord God, on what we are to do; what it is You
want us to do.

Father, you are saying to us: The understanding will come later. I want you to thank Me. I want you to
enter My gates with thanksgiving and come into my courts with praise. Then I want you to worship Me in
the Holy of Holies. I want you to draw in deep where I can reveal Myself to you. I will show you your
sin - it is not Mine -you think it's Mine, but it's yours - so that you will confess it and then be free from
it so that we can go on and you can petition Me and I will answer you. You can intercede for others and I
will answer. You can go forth and I will empower you and guide you and give you the victory. That is
My glory; that is My love; that is My power; that is My nature. 0 people! I am knocking; I am wanting

want you to be able to be a blessing to this world. I want to raise you up. Just turn to Me and I will do it
all! Trust Mel Believe Mel Thank Mel Praise Mel Worship Mel Confess your sins; confess your
righteousness. Petition Me. Intercede. I will grant you all ... all ... all. I will hold back no good thing ....
It's My pleasure to give you the kingdom. !love you. I love you. '

Father God, we love You and thank You. We thank You ... thank You... thank You that You have saved
us, and that You will never change Your mind about loving us. You are always on our side no matter
how mean we are, how slow, how sluggish, how bitter, no matter how angry we are. You still love us
without condition. You haven't changed one bit. You are still going to bless us. You are just waiting for
us to open our eyes and to see Your goodness, Your greatness and Your glory. You just want us to follow
You so that You can show us good and wonderful things. 'One thing have I desired, that will I seek after:
that I may dwell in the house of the Lord all the days of my life; that I may behold the beauty of the Lord
and inquire in His temple.' Lord God, that is us. We are a holy people of God. We have no idea how
this all works; we just simply know what it is You want. It is so clear, Lord God. You are a great and
wondrous God. And we give You the all the praise! Amen and Amen
And now, may the Lord bless you and keep you. May the Lord make His face to shine upon you and be
gracious to you. May the Lord lift up His countenance upon you and give you His peace. In the name of
the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen

Daily Prayer
(Example of Jim Borchert's prayer time)

Dear Lord, I love you. You first loved me. You are my beloved. I love not this world. I love not
my life to the death. I am alive to you. I am dead to this world.

Thank you for all that you have done for me personally. I have asked of you, the Holy One,
and you have answered me. Even before I have asked, you have anticipated my needs and
have known me, and have granted me surprises of your love.

You have created me. Thank you.

You have redeemed me. Thank you.
You have been transforming me. Thank you.
You have kept me alive and in health.
You have given me a wonderful wife and family.
You have revealed my sin and my sins and have not rejected me nor given up on me.
If I were God, I would have left someone like me and forsaken me long ago for my continued
sin and wickedness and coldness and neglect of you and your Kingdom. How selfish I have
been.
How little I have trusted you for my daily bread and happiness,

Thank you for your patience toward my sin and rebellion. Thank you for your unconditional
love. I thank you for my friends and those whom you have set in my life to assist me or to be
nurtured and taught by me. It is a great honor to be entrusted with a high office and calling in
your Kingdom. I am your servant, your trustee, your man of God on earth to do all your
pleasure. I have bee~ often faithless and false to my charge. I have often performed reluctantly
and without joy. I have often unjustly enriched myself at the people's expense. Thank you for
forgiving me. You have been holy and merciful and powerful and faithful. Thank you Lord for all
you have done to me, for me, in me, and through me.

I thank you that I am alive and well. I thank you that I have lost my money in the stock market
and have not been utterly destroyed. Thousands of dollars are lost each day and I have been
busy doing my chores. Surely I am a fool to do nothing. Do not let me be destroyed. I am not
wise in my financial stewardship. Nor do I have time to be active. No one cares for me, but You
0 Lord. Thank you for your love. I have more chores than time or talent. Grant me favor and
wisdom and time. Thank you for not handing me over to destruction.

45
I praise you for your love, your holiness, your light, your truth, your steady, unwavering,
unchanging nature. I praise you for your mercy and daily forgiveness and equity. I praise you
for your power and glory and majesty. You can do all things. You are a covenant keeping God.
Faithful are you 0 Lord. Your Word is true. Your mouth does not lie. I marvel at all your
goodness to me and greatness on my behalf. No other God is dependable or daily sustaining
me. You are my all in all. I praise you all the day for your wisdom and your knowledge which
you reveal to me. You are my rock. You change not. I can do nothing without you. I praise
- you that in you I can do all things.

Who is like you 0 God? I adore you Father, Creator, ruler, judge, lawmaker, guide, shepherd
and terrible one. You are my strong tower, my safety, my refuge, my deliverer, my happiness,
my triumph all the day. I worship you with all my heart and soul and strength. I love you dear
savior, redeemer, deliverer, for rescuing me from all my sins, my snares, all vanity, folly, from all
the lies, tricks and deceits of my enemy. I stand in awe and bow my knee at your gracious
throne. You have set me free to worship you forever. Today I am before you, clothed in your
blood soaked garment with love and worship and adoration. I am in your holy of holies, where
all my life apart from you is darkness, and I am dwelling in your great light and life. I adore you
Holy Spirit and submit to all your instruction. I love you for your rod and chastening and
suffering and fire and trouble and shaking and beating, for it is good for me. I know I am hard
and stubborn and need the rod and the staff together. I received your power, and daily I need
more supply from the Father's great bounty and riches. I grieve you not, for you shall lead me
into all truth, spiritually, intellectually, socially, economically and politically. Clothe me today in
the righteousness of thy continual revelations. I cannot turn from you and live. You are
teaching me each day; disciplining me, showing me the Father's heart and the Son's glorious
love to me. It is my life indeed. I have no life but what you show me all the day long. I worship
you. 0 my beloved Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, my dwelling place forever: Receive my
worship, love, and adoration, for there is no other God but you.

I confess my vile ways in your sight. I have walked in sin and darkness. I am convicted
continually of how far short I come. I am vain. I am evil. I am self-willed. Prepare my cross
today that I may not walk in bold pride, anger, fear, envy, lust, doubt and self-pity. You know
me 0 Lord and how wicked I am apart from you. I confess it to be true. Forgive me all my
wretchedness. Have mercy on all my conduct and character. Bring me in line with thy vision,
plan, purpose and will. Break me and reveal the depth and extent of all my sins. If there be any
wicked way in me, reveal it, bring it to light. Let my hidden sins appear. Show me what you

46
see. Keep not thy Holy Spirit from me. Spare not your rod. Humble me. I have sinned greatly
against my Creator. I have sinned proudly against my redeemer. I have done all manner of sin
to bring shame to you 0 Lord. Do not allow it. For my praise and worship is not perfect in thy
sight. My ways are hid from me. You see all my evil. I have devoured what is forbidden. 1have
neglected that which you have chose for me. Away all flesh, all world, all devil. I will die to
myself. I submit my will, I clarify my mind. I rejoice my happiness in you. For my sins, though
great and plenteous, yet are not greater than thy love and mercy, nor is your grace less
plenteous than my sin.

You are my righteousness. My spirit declares my righteousness by faith. My heart is filled

with thanksgiving and praise and adoration. And my soul is strong and· clear and happy
because of they great mercy. And my life is filled with the glory of thy presence. I rejoice 0
Lord in thy goodness. You are great and you are good, and I am your beloved. I am you child.
I am before you as one covered by the spotless blood and filled with your endless love, bringing
all hiddeness to light. I have sinned in my soul and in my body, but my spirit is alive by trusting
your imputed righteousness. I separate the two. Your Word separates my dark soul from my
bright spirit. I reckon my old man dead and my new man alive. I am dead to sin and alive to
righteousness. I am a new creation. I am, by faith, perfect in your sight. On earth my sins
appear. But in heaven my faith overcomes this world, my flesh, and Satan's lies. He has no
power over me. I rest in the finished work of Calvary. I worship in the power of the indwelling
Holy Spirit. I will walk in purity and truth. I will not be destroyed. My sins are not me. I am a
new man in Christ. I am no longer that old man in Adam. Honesty gives way to truth. Truth
sets me free. I live by every word which continually proceeds from God's mouth. I love you
Lord. Your holiness condemns my soul and body wherein I have sinned, but your mercy causes
your holiness not to condemn me, but to forgive me and to cleanse me. I am alive by your
grace. You do not and will not withhold your Holy Spirit from me. Fill me 0 Lord. Live through
me this day. Grant me the fullness of thy favor. Give me revelation by thy grace. I am your
beloved child, your trusted servant, your happy slave and chosen son. I know who I am and
whose I am. You are mine and I am yours. I confess all my righteousness. There is no
wickedness in me. Alleluia. I thank you. I praise you. I worship you 0 Lord. Let love, your
love, come forth this day to glorify your name.

I ask you today for wisdom and favor: wisdom to know your way, to speak your words and do
your deeds, to have your understanding, to walk in your truth. Favor to keep me from
destruction. Let me be safe from all harm and fear. And favor for all my steps to be ordered by

47
you 0 Lord. Let my enemies fall back and grant me the King's portion that I may eat and be
satisfied and proper in all my doings. Let my daily bread be received with thanksgiving. Let my
family be in health. Let my path be clear. Let me not fear the enemies' threats. Let me show
my moderation to all men, for you are with me in all my words and doings and comings and
goings. You are my God, my Father, who is in heaven. Holy be Your name. Thy Kingdom
come today in me and through me on earth as it is in heaven. Let thy will be done today in me
and through me on earth as it is in heaven. Give me this day my daily bread and supply all my
needs according to your riches in glory. And forgive me all my trespasses and injuries to the life,
liberties and safety and happiness and well being of others; and forgive all my sins against
heaven and my affront to your glorious and majestic persons. And let me be forgiven by others
for what I have done to destroy them and to neglect them, depriving them of my love. Let me be
forgiven for my sins against my family, my church, my neighbor and my enemies who hate me
wrongly. For I truly do forgive those who trespass against me. And deliver me from evil and
from the wiles of the evil one. And lead me not into temptation. But deliver me from evil this
day. For Thine is the Kingdom and the Power and the Glory forever and ever. Amen

And I intercede specifically for others today. Grant wisdom and favor to all.

servant. Let me go forth in your Name to do your will, to speak your words, to do your deeds, to
endure the wicked and ignorant with joy and equanimity, not regarding their sin, but seeing
rather their need and their anxiety and lack of knowledge and truth. They are under pressure
and burden and law. They do not understand your Gospel and mercy and unconditional love.
Let them see and hear your holy presence in me, your merciful gospel in me, your powerful love
