THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

There is a fountain filled with blood, drawn from Emmanuel’s veins,

And sinners plunged beneath that flood lose all their guilty stains.
The dying thief rejoiced to see that fountain in his day; and there may I,
Though vile as he, wash all my sins away!

10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the
things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make
those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the
worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those
sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and
goats could take away sins.
5
Therefore, when He came into the world, He said:
“Sacrifice and offering You did not desire,
But a body You have prepared for Me.
6
In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin
You had no pleasure.
7
Then I said, ‘Behold, I have come—
In the volume of the book it is written of Me—
To do Your will, O God.’ ”
8
Previously saying, “Sacrifice and offering, burnt offerings, and offerings for sin You did not
desire, nor had pleasure in them” (which are offered according to the law), 9 then He said,
“Behold, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the
second. 10 By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ
once for all.
11
And every priest stands ministering daily and offering repeatedly the same sacrifices,
which can never take away sins. 12 But this Man, after He had offered one sacrifice for sins
forever, sat down at the right hand of God, 13 from that time waiting till His enemies are made
His footstool. 14 For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified.
15
But the Holy Spirit also witnesses to us; for after He had said before,
16
“This is the covenant that I will make with them after those days, says the LORD: I will put
My laws into their hearts, and in their minds I will write them,” 17 then He adds, “Their sins and
their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there is remission of these, there is
no longer an offering for sin.
19
Therefore, brethren, having boldness to enter the Holiest by the blood of Jesus, 20 by a new
and living way which He consecrated for us, through the veil, that is, His flesh, 21 and having a
High Priest over the house of God, 22 let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith,
having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
24
And let us consider one another in order to stir up love and good works, 25 not forsaking the

assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so
much the more as you see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:1–25)

Hallelujah! Father God, we thank You that from the Holy of Holies, which we have never seen, the
Holy of Holies that is not on the earth in Jerusalem, but the one that exists eternally in heaven, even
Your abode, your place, has now been set in our midst: not in Jerusalem, not on this mountain, not in
that place, not on College and Cannon or First and Throckmorton (addresses of Pastor Jim’s churches in
Dallas and Fort Worth), but in our hearts.

15
For thus says the High and Lofty One
Who inhabits eternity, whose name is Holy:
“I dwell in the high and holy place,
With him who has a contrite and humble spirit,
To revive the spirit of the humble,
And to revive the heart of the contrite ones. (Isaiah 57:15)

Your throne is no longer far away.

21
nor will they say, ‘See here!’ or ‘See there!’ For indeed, the kingdom of God is within you.”
(Luke 17:21)

The Holy of Holies is no longer behind a veil.

19
This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the
Presence behind the veil, (Hebrews 6:19)

18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2
Corinthians 3:18)

Through the death of Jesus Christ, because of His death on the Cross,

51
Then, behold, the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom; and the earth
quaked, and the rocks were split, (Matthew 27:51)

14
For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle
wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments
contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making

peace, 16 and that He might reconcile them both to God in one body through the cross, thereby
putting to death the enmity. (Ephesians 2:14–16)

we now know that not only is the Holy of Holies close at hand, not only do we dwell in the Holy of
Holies, but the Holy of Holies has become our life.

27
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the
Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)

10
For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the
LORD: I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God,
and they shall be My people. 11 None of them shall teach his neighbor, and none his brother,
saying, ‘Know the LORD,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them.
12
For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will
remember no more.” (Hebrews 8:10–12)

31
“Behold, the days are coming, says the LORD, when I will make a new covenant with the
house of Israel and with the house of Judah—32 not according to the covenant that I made with
their fathers in the day that I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt, My
covenant which they broke, though I was a husband to them, says the LORD. 33 But this is the
covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the LORD: I will put My
law in their minds, and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My
people. 34 No more shall every man teach his neighbor, and every man his brother, saying,
‘Know the LORD,’ for they all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them, says
the LORD. For I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin I will remember no more.” (Jeremiah
31:31–34)

We are now in full and complete and total communion and fellowship with God. No one and
nothing in all creation – past, present, or future – neither height nor depth, nothing! – neither angel, nor
devil, nor man, neither body, nor soul, nor spirit – nothing is able to separate us from the love of God.

16
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living
God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them
And walk among them.
I will be their God,
And they shall be My people.” (2 Corinthians 6:16)

(Hebrews 10:19–23)

35
Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall tribulation, or distress, or persecution, or
famine, or nakedness, or peril, or sword? 36 As it is written:
“For your sake we are killed all day long;
We are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.”
37
Yet in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. 38 For I am
persuaded that neither death nor life, nor angels nor principalities nor powers, nor things present
nor things to come, 39 nor height nor depth, nor any other created thing, shall be able to separate
us from the love of God which is in Christ Jesus our Lord. (Romans 8:35–39)

Hallelujah! Blessed be the name of the Lord God! Amen, and Amen, and Amen, and Amen! Praise
the name of Jesus! Glory to God! Praise and honor and glory unto You, Lord Jesus. Amen, and Amen!
Oh God, to stand in Your holy presence and not to be struck down, to know that we can walk into the
very Holy of Holies and abide, and abide, and abide, and never be turned aside. For all the majesty, and
glory, and praise, and honor, is given not only to You, Lord God, but You shared that. We are
partakers of the divine nature; we are in some sense God’s Holy of Holies.

4
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these
you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust. (2 Peter 1:4)

9
then the Lord knows how to deliver the godly out of temptations and to reserve the unjust under
punishment for the day of judgment, (2 Peter 2:9)

3
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and
He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be
their God. (Revelation 21:3)

There is a happiness about us. People see in a mirror dimly, but we are that … we are that which
you have given to us, which we have now become, even to clothe ourselves in the very nature of
God; even to clothe ourselves in the heavenly garment. This has been given and we have received
it.

To console those who mourn in Zion,
To give them beauty for ashes,
The oil of joy for mourning,
The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;
That they may be called trees of righteousness,
The planting of the LORD, that He may be glorified.” (Isaiah 61:3)
10
I will greatly rejoice in the LORD,
My soul shall be joyful in my God;
For He has clothed me with the garments of salvation,
He has covered me with the robe of righteousness,
As a bridegroom decks himself with ornaments,
And as a bride adorns herself with her jewels. (Isaiah 61:10)

In Jesus’ holy name, Amen, and Amen. Praise the Lord!

During that ten days of fasting, God gave me so many revelations. I don’t know when I will be able
to share them, but I will because I believe He gave them to me that I would share, and this is one that is
so powerful. I’ve never understood the blood. In the Greek it’s called haima (αἷμα). I’ve never
understood how powerful the blood is, and if we could understand this alone, we would never again
doubt, we would never again fear, we would never again falter, we would never again cease to grow.
This alone, just this word – in the Hebrew it’s called dahm (‫)דָּ ם‬, like A-dam (‫( )אָ דָ ם‬the first man). It
means “red” (adohm) ( ֙‫ )אָ דֹ ם‬or “blood” (dahm). This blood does so much. I’ve studied the blood before,
but God gave me a revelation. This was not from study, this was a revelation that He gave me that the
blood doesn’t do everything, and I didn’t know that. I did, but I never thought about it. There are some
things that the blood will not do, and I realized at once when I heard this revelation that that’s what we
need to know – is what the blood does – so that what is not the blood may do what it needs to do.
Because it’s not the blood that changes the soul. You cannot be changed by the blood. You cannot be
changed because you’re born again. You cannot be changed because the blood has covered your sin.
You cannot be changed because the blood has removed your guilt. You cannot be changed because you
have a new heart. That is not to change your soul, that is to change your heart, your inner man. But when
you understand that, when you understand that the blood is in the Outer Court, you will then travel
with the blood into the Holy of Holies where all change takes place. No change takes place because
of the blood. The blood covers your sin, but it doesn’t remove it. you must go into the presence of
God with sin! You cannot go into the presence of God without sin!

15
This is a faithful saying and worthy of all acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to
save sinners, of whom I am chief. (1 Timothy 1:15)

(Hebrews 10:19–22)

Now I’ve always thought that you had to go into the presence of God without sin, because any man
that has sin, God’s very light and presence and nature would kill him on the spot.

21
And the LORD said to Moses, “Go down and warn the people, lest they break through to
gaze at the LORD, and many of them perish. (Exodus 19:21)

You can’t walk with God because you wouldn’t be in agreement with God, because God is pure. But I
have good news for you: you must go into the presence of God with sin. You are only qualified if
you have sin. You can’t get into the presence of God without sin.

17
When Jesus heard it, He said to them, “Those who are well have no need of a physician,
but those who are sick. I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners, to repentance.” (Mark
2:17)

8
Peter said to Him, “you shall never wash my feet!” Jesus answered him, “If I do not wash you,
you have no part with Me.” (John 13:8)

I’ve often wondered how that worked, because in the outer court the high priest would lean on this
goat heavily and he would confess all the sins of the nation and his own sins, and then they would kill
this goat. All the sins were upon that goat’s neck. There was a yoke, sort of. The man would lean down
on that goat heavily and the goat would just receive that. He put real pressure on his neck because he
was physically putting a yoke or a bondage on that little goat. It was an innocent little goat, but it was
the picture of Jesus receiving our sins upon him, taking our sins upon himself.

4
Surely He has borne our griefs
And carried our sorrows;
Yet we esteemed Him stricken,
Smitten by God, and afflicted.
5
But He was wounded for our transgressions,
He was bruised for our iniquities;
The chastisement for our peace was upon Him,
And by His stripes we are healed.
6
All we like sheep have gone astray;
We have turned, every one, to his own way;
And the LORD has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.

Page 7 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

7
He was oppressed and He was afflicted,
Yet He opened not His mouth;
He was led as a lamb to the slaughter,
And as a sheep before its shearers is silent,
So He opened not His mouth.
8
He was taken from prison and from judgment,
And who will declare His generation?
For He was cut off from the land of the living;
For the transgressions of My people He was stricken.
9
And they made His grave with the wicked—
But with the rich at His death,
Because He had done no violence,
Nor was any deceit in His mouth.
10
Yet it pleased the LORD to bruise Him;
He has put Him to grief.
When you make His soul an offering for sin,
He shall see His seed, He shall prolong His days,
And the pleasure of the LORD shall prosper in His hand.
11
He shall see the labor of His soul, and be satisfied.
By His knowledge My righteous Servant shall justify many,
For He shall bear their iniquities.
12
Therefore I will divide Him a portion with the great,
And He shall divide the spoil with the strong,
Because He poured out His soul unto death,
And He was numbered with the transgressors,
And He bore the sin of many,
And made intercession for the transgressors. (Isaiah 53:4–12)

29
The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold! The Lamb of God
who takes away the sin of the world! (John 1:29)

And so the high priest once a year on the day of Yom Kippur, which was just a week or so ago, he
would lean on this goat and then slit his throat afterward, and take the blood of that goat and walk into
the Holy of Holies. And one time a year he could do this. He went through that veil; how, we don’t
know. But he went through that veil into the presence of God and there he took the blood and sprinkled
it on everything in there. It was all gold as you know. He just put blood on everything. But before he did
that (he wore a very beautiful white linen robe), he took off all his fancy garments on this day – the only
day he did this – and he would sprinkle blood all over himself, and he put it all over the people. He put
blood on everything; everything was covered with blood. Why? Because the word atonement means

Page 8 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

“to cover.” This is how they would cover. They would cover by sprinkling the blood on everything, out
of this bowl that came from this one goat – this innocent goat – the innocent one for the guilty. They just
put the blood on. I have often thought: if the high priest had any sin in him and he walked into the Holy
of Holies of God, he would die. God would kill him on the spot.
You’ll remember many times in the Old Testament people would touch the ark and they would die
right on the spot. It would be like when I was a Lutheran, I had heard that if you touched the altar
without white gloves on, lightning would come down and strike you. So I tried it, but it didn’t happen.
But I’d heard that, you know? When you’re growing up you hear these stories the altar ladies tell. So
they were always going to this holy place behind the altar, and the idea was a good one. The idea was to
bring back again the sense of awe and worship and so on. But let me tell you something: that is a
shadow. We’ve got the real thing. It’s not a building with altars and pulpits and stuff like that. We don’t
need that. Now hear me, it’s all right as a symbol, but people take it as more than a symbol when they go
like that and touch the altar. God doesn’t kill people for touching things. God’s not in that business, that
was the Old Testament. “Something bad is going to happen if you go up there and you don’t cross
yourself or genuflect or sprinkle water on yourself.” Do you know what I’m saying? That’s nonsense!
God doesn’t like that. Now I’m not being critical of people, I’m just telling you truly God doesn’t want
you to keep the law; and that’s law, that’s shadow, that’s darkness.

14
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to
us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. 15 Having disarmed
principalities and powers, He made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them in it.
16
So let no one judge you in food or in drink, or regarding a festival or a new moon or
sabbaths, 17 which are a shadow of things to come, but the substance is of Christ. 18 Let no one
cheat you of your reward, taking delight in false humility and worship of angels, intruding into
those things which he has not seen, vainly puffed up by his fleshly mind, 19 and not holding fast
to the Head, from whom all the body, nourished and knit together by joints and ligaments, grows
with the increase that is from God.
20
Therefore, if you died with Christ from the basic principles of the world, why, as though
living in the world, do you subject yourselves to regulations—21 “Do not touch, do not taste, do
not handle,” 22 which all concern things which perish with the using—according to the
commandments and doctrines of men? 23 These things indeed have an appearance of wisdom in
self-imposed religion, false humility, and neglect of the body, but are of no value against the
indulgence of the flesh. (Colossians 2:14–23)

13
In that He says, “A new covenant,” He has made the first obsolete. Now what is becoming
obsolete and growing old is ready to vanish away. (Hebrews 8:13)

Page 9 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
18
For on the one hand there is an annulling of the former commandment because of its
weakness and unprofitableness, 19 for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is
the bringing in of a better hope, through which we draw near to God. (Hebrews 7:18–19)

(Hebrews 10:1–10)

Don’t take that stuff seriously. If you keep the law in one part you’ve got to keep the whole law.

5
For Moses writes about the righteousness which is of the law, “The man who does those
things shall live by them.” (Romans 10:5)

3
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole
law. (Galatians 5:3)

10
For whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. (James
2:10)

you can’t just take circumcision and leave out the rest of the law – God’s not into that anymore! You
know where it all is? It’s here – in the heart! It’s in this, people!

Page 10 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
28
For he is not a Jew who is one outwardly, nor is circumcision that which is outward in the
flesh; 29 but he is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the Spirit,
not in the letter; whose praise is not from men but from God. (Romans 2:28–29)

You see, when Jesus died on the Cross and shed His blood, it was sprinkled on all His people,

2
elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for
obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. (1
Peter 1:2)

and we do that through the preaching of the Word. As we preach the word, we’re sprinkled.

26
that He might sanctify and cleanse her with the washing of water by the word, (Ephesians
5:26)

But it’s spiritual now, it’s not tied up in physical things. Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! It’s a spiritual truth.
You see, that was a shadow, and some people like shadows rather than the light. But I don’t want the
shadows, I want the light.

6
For it is the God who commanded light to shine out of darkness, who has shone in our hearts to
give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ. (2 Corinthians
4:6)

Amen? Let’s turn on the light, because there’s fear in darkness, there’s fear in shadows.

5
you are all sons of light and sons of the day. We are not of the night nor of darkness. (1
Thessalonians 5:5)

7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

When the children become afraid, we turn on the light and say “Everything’s all right.” We show them
Jesus above their bed: “It’s all right, Jesus is here. Jesus is with you.” Kirsten, remember we used to do
that? Praise the Lord. She doesn’t want to be embarrassed, but we used to do that. We do that with
Margaret, don’t we? Sure. And they have that assurance that nothing is going to go wrong because
Daddy and Mommy are there and the light’s on. We have the Light on now, we don’t have to play in
shadows anymore, we don’t have to go back.

Page 11 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
8
For you were once darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. Walk as children of light
(Ephesians 5:8)

9
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people,
that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous
light; (1 Peter 2:9)

That high priest used to go into the Holy of Holies. They were afraid he might be killed – and
nobody else could go in and get him if he were killed. It would be like getting electrocuted. If you touch
him you might be killed. So they would tie a rope on the bottom of his leg – I’ve told you this before –
and put tinkle bells on the bottom of his dress. (I used to wear one of those when I was a Lutheran
pastor. They called you “father” and dressed you up like a mother). The high priest would go in there
tinkling so they knew he was still alive in there. The other priests would be listening and say, “He’s still
moving around in there…” ding-a-ling, ding-a-ling. If he would fall on the floor and die, they would
wait for hours and hours before they would have to pull him out. I don’t think it ever happened, but it
could have, and that’s why that rope was tied to his ankle. But here’s the thing: that curtain separating
them from the Holy of Holies has now been removed.

14
For He Himself is our peace, who has made both one, and has broken down the middle
wall of separation, 15 having abolished in His flesh the enmity, that is, the law of commandments
contained in ordinances, so as to create in Himself one new man from the two, thus making
peace, (Ephesians 2:14–15)

14
having wiped out the handwriting of requirements that was against us, which was contrary to
us. And He has taken it out of the way, having nailed it to the cross. (Colossians 2:14)

There’s no more veil!

38
Then the veil of the temple was torn in two from top to bottom. (Mark 15:38)

Now you’ve got to get this: God is done with religion!

16
And of His fullness we have all received, and grace for grace. 17 For the law was given
through Moses, but grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. (John 1:16–17)

5 Stand fast therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and do not be entangled
again with a yoke of bondage. 2 Indeed I, Paul, say to you that if you become circumcised, Christ
will profit you nothing. 3 And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a
debtor to keep the whole law. 4 you have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be

justified by law; you have fallen from grace. 5 For we through the Spirit eagerly wait for the hope
of righteousness by faith. 6 For in Christ Jesus neither circumcision nor uncircumcision avails
anything, but faith working through love. (Galatians 5:1–6)

He wants us to know Him, the true and living God. And there is no curtain, there is no holy place,
there are no walls, there’s no outer court, there is nothing now separating us from the love of God.
Nothing! Nothing! Nothing! Isn’t that exciting?

31
What then shall we say to these things? If God is for us, who can be against us? 32 He who
did not spare His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also
freely give us all things? (Romans 8:31–32)

16
And we have known and believed the love that God has for us. God is love, and he who abides
in love abides in God, and God in him. 17 Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may
have boldness in the day of judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no
fear in love; but perfect love casts out fear, because fear involves torment. But he who fears has
not been made perfect in love. 19 We love Him because He first loved us. (1 John 4:16–19)

So the symbol or the shadow we can understand, because I know psychologically that when I sin I
feel like God doesn’t like me. I feel like I can’t go into the presence of God. I feel like I have to clean
myself up first.

21
There is also an antitype which now saves us—baptism (not the removal of the filth of the
flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God), through the resurrection of Jesus Christ,
(1 Peter 3:21)

I feel like if I just say, “God, I love you,” and then He saw me go out and sin or think a wrong thought,
that I just can’t go back and finish my sentence, “I love You so much.” I feel like I’ve got to do
something to cleanse myself. Do you not feel that way?

(Colossians 2:20–23)

So there’s a truth here that I understand, that these Jews got revealed from heaven, but it’s something
that all men understand: that there is a gap between you and God. Every other religion is built on that

Page 13 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

gap, on that curtain, on that veil; and they’re working their way up the steps – but this is religion, these
steps.

20
Therefore by the deeds of the law no flesh will be justified in His sight, for by the law is the
knowledge of sin. (Romans 3:20)

I tell you, these steps here (in front of the pulpit) are not for religious purposes, they’re just to get me up
so you can see me – that’s it. In fact, I didn’t even want to go up the steps when I first started. Anyway,
these steps are the religious way of getting closer and closer to God, and many people thought that
meant getting closer and closer to the minister. Some little kids have called me Jesus, because they hear
“Jesus” and “God” and then they see everybody is looking toward the guy up front, so they figure that’s
Jesus. But there is no resemblance [between me and Jesus], if you view me as separated from you; but if
you mean all Christians are saints, all Christians are walking forth in love toward the neighbor from the
Holy of Holies, all Christians are His temple, then you’re right.

16
Do you not know that you are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God dwells in you?
(1 Corinthians 3:16)

But here’s the exciting thing! God showed me this revelation. He said that the blood covers but does
not remove sin. That set me free, because I realized, like that high priest that went into the presence of
God, I thought to myself, “He wasn’t pure. How could he be? He wasn’t even a Christian! He was just a
Jew. And I know what those Jews are like. They’re just like moral, religious kind of people. How could
that Jew get in there? I don’t care how holy he looked. You know, Jews can look real holy like we can
do, but the only thing that made him holy was the blood. The only reason that he could go in there and
say “I’m acceptable” was because he must have had tremors if he walked in and knew that God would
strike anybody dead who had any sin on them, whatsoever. How could he walk in? How could he
sprinkle the blood? you know, he must have put lots of blood on, just a little extra, because there’s no
way that he could ever cleanse himself.
Luther used to do this. For three or four hours he would confess all of his sins until he was
completely clean. I mean it would take him 3 to 4 hours. Most of the monks would go in for fifteen
minutes or half an hour, maybe an hour if they were really spiritual. But Luther would go in for three or
four hours and he would walk out of that confessional booth and think to himself, “I’m clean”, and then
he’d think, “No, that’s pride”, and he’d go back in for another hour. You could never clean yourself,
because the minute you thought you were clean you’d have pride and you’d have to go back in again.
There is no way to ever do enough to say, “God, I’m now perfect.” And the high priest knew that he had
to be perfect. So the thing that did it was the blood. The blood! The blood! The blood!
Now this is what is so exciting: if the blood covers but does not remove sin, I understand, because I
have seen that I have sin in me, but I don’t always get it erased. It sometimes is still there; nevertheless, I
have faith in the blood that says, “God, you accept me right now.”

to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him
we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace (Ephesians 1:6–7)

Now, I’m not saying I’m sinning in His presence, I’m saying there is sin and I say, “God, forgive me.”
I’m not saying I go in with sin uncovered. No, I cover it, but it’s there! I’m aware of it. My thoughts are
aware of it, my feelings are aware of it. I cannot go into God’s presence and say, “I have no thought of
sin, my feelings are perfect, my behavior is just.” I can’t do that! I have tried. I’ve worked at that. I
didn’t even know it, but I know it now. I’ve actually worked at that. I’ve thought in the last two years
that I’ve become a lot holier than I was before. I really thought I was getting a lot holier. I actually
thought people could begin to notice it. Whereas the people that used to know me – praise the Lord,
most of them are gone – they weren’t around to remind everybody. But the new people didn’t know me
so well and they just accepted me as wonderfully as I was appearing now. I really thought that, not real
consciously, but sort of secretly. I was thinking, “I’m getting a little bit better. I actually can go into
God’s presence because my thoughts are so pure, and my emotions are so happy and peaceful, and my
desires are all clean and right, and my behavior is roughly so, but it’s better than it used to be.” And I
actually would look forward to those moments that I could really go in and enjoy God. That is a lie from
hell! It may be true that I had those kinds of feelings and thoughts and so forth, but it counts for nothing!

6
But we are all like an unclean thing,
And all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags;
We all fade as a leaf,
And our iniquities, like the wind,
Have taken us away. (Isaiah 64:6)

You know what counts for something? The other day when I had terrible thoughts and when I had
horrible emotions, this, and that, and so on, I could still go into the presence of God because my faith
was not in my goodness, because my faith was not in my works, my faith was in the blood of Jesus
that covered!

7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the
riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7)

It was not the sin that was gone, it was the covering that stood between me and God.

24
being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus, 25 whom God
set forth as a propitiation by His blood, through faith, to demonstrate His righteousness, because
in His forbearance God had passed over the sins that were previously committed, 26 to

demonstrate at the present time His righteousness, that He might be just and the justifier of the
one who has faith in Jesus. (Romans 3:24–26)

So the blood brings me into the presence of God.

14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(Hebrews 9:14)

(Hebrews 10:19–23)

Now I want you to understand that because what I’m about to say is so exciting, that if that’s true,
that you don’t go into the presence of God without sin, then you must go with sin. Now if I didn’t
have sin then I would need no faith.

22
let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an
evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. 23 Let us hold fast the confession of our
hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful. (Hebrews 10:22–23)

If I was pure, if I really had pure thoughts and pure emotions and a pure will, then I would need no faith.
I could walk into the presence of God and say, “On my own merits, God, not only do I have a pure heart,
but I have a pure soul, and maybe or maybe not a pure body, but I’m pure.” I could go right in like that. I
wouldn’t need any faith then for my soul. But God says, “without faith it is impossible to please him.”

6
But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He
is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (Hebrews 11:6)

But when I’ve got sin on me, when I’ve got sin in me, and I feel it and know it, I’ve got to have the
blood! Now, that’s what God wants. So if I don’t have sin, I don’t need blood, and I won’t have
faith. So sin and blood and faith all go together, and don’t you ever dare go into the presence of
God without sin and blood and faith.

Page 16 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(Hebrews 9:14)

Don’t say, “Well, I’m going to clean up one of these days and all I’ll need is faith and blood.”
What’s the blood for but to cover sin? If you don’t have any sin, you don’t need any blood! You
will never arrive in this life at a place where you are so spiritual that you don’t need the blood. And
believe me, the blood covers everything; every thought you’ll ever have, good or bad.

7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 If we say that we have no sin, we
deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. 9 If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to
forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 If we say that we have not
sinned, we make Him a liar, and His word is not in us. (1 John 1:7–10)

Sometimes you have the most horrible thoughts – I’m guessing, am I right? I don’t know what they are –
but it’s a good guess. You have the most despicable, rotten thoughts, and you’re embarrassed by those,
you wish they would go away. You think that in that moment you cannot worship God as much as you
did five minutes ago, or as much as Pastor seems to be doing. You are wrong, because the blood speaks
so well of you. That’s what the blood is for!

24
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better
things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24)

All you have to do is say, “Devil, shut up! This sin that you’re pointing out, I’ll just cover it with the
blood. And I’m going to go and worship God with all my heart and all my soul. I don’t care what
thoughts I have, they’re blood-covered thoughts!

12
As far as the east is from the west,
So far has He removed our transgressions from us. (Psalm 103:12)

Even if they’re wicked and even if they’re ugly, I trust in the blood, and that pleases God.

2
Bless the LORD, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3
Who forgives all your iniquities,
Who heals all your diseases, (Psalm 103:2–3)

Page 17 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

Not that you come to him in fact, but in faith! You have not come to him with pure thoughts, you
have come to him with impure thoughts, but you’ve covered them with the blood, and you say, “God,
you know me.” Like the guy that beat his breast in the temple. Do you remember? Not the other guy that
said, “Oh Lord, I’m glad I’m not like that other miserable offender.” Hey! We’re all miserable offenders
if we’re talking about our soul, not our heart. I’m not talking about our heart because the blood does
change your heart. The blood changes your heart so beautifully that you have a brand new heart.
Pure and absolutely clean – it won’t be improved ever – that’s the real you.

17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all
things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

But you still have a soul that will never in this life be pure all the time. Now, from time to time it is
pure. From time to time you feel pure. From time to time your thoughts are clear. From time to time
your desires are pure. I have experienced that; I know that’s possible. I will tell you now how to get that,
because that’s a neat thing, to be able to enjoy that, but do not rely on it!

7
For we walk by faith, not by sight. (2 Corinthians 5:7)

The way you get that is by taking the blood, putting it on the sin, and walking into the presence of
God. It’s the presence of God that changes you.

17
Now the Lord is the Spirit; and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. 18 But we all,
with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the
same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2 Corinthians 3:17–18)

The blood does not change you, the presence changes you. When you go into God’s presence with the
holiness of the blood,

14
in whom we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:14)

10
By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for
all. (Hebrews 10:10)

but not the sin gone, just covered and atoned for; you go in with your sin, but you put the blood with the
sin. You just tie them together. You put your faith in the blood and you put it together with your
sin. Now don’t go in without sin! I can tell some of you are trying to get in without sin.

5
But to him who does not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is
accounted for righteousness, (Romans 4:5)

Page 18 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

3
Are you so foolish? Having begun in the Spirit, are you now being made perfect by the flesh?
(Galatians 3:3)

Keep your sin. Make sure you’ve got some sin. Do we have any sin? You can’t go in without sin. Ahh!
Got some? Good! Go in with sin, because then you’re being real. Go into God’s presence. And God’s
glorious presence, when you have faith, when you’re covered with blood, when there is sin in you,
it will change your life.

14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(Hebrews 9:14)

That’s how you get rid of cigarettes, alcohol, fear, lust, envy, pride, jealousy. Don’t go into God’s
presence cleaned up!

4
Now to him who works, the wages are not counted as grace but as debt. 5 But to him who does
not work but believes on Him who justifies the ungodly, his faith is accounted for righteousness,
(Romans 4:4–5)

Go into God’s presence as you are, covered with the blood, faith in the blood, and God will change
you. Then God’s holy presence will get all the glory. You won’t praise yourself and say, “You know, I
have a lot of willpower. Boy! I used to be so weak, but I’m getting a lot stronger!” That’s what I thought
I was doing. I thought, “You know, I am really improving. I’ll bet Peggy even notices. I’ve been pretty
good these last couple of years, have I not? Now, I’ve had a few slips, and you’ve reminded me when
I’ve slipped, yeah.” But you see, it’s not like that with God. The beautiful thing is, no matter how
many times I slip up, if I fall seven times, the blood will cover it. Now, you see what boldness that
gives me? Oh, this is so exciting to me! There is no sin in all the world the devil can point out to me, or
my flesh can point out, or my wife can point out, or the world can point out, or Christian saints can point
out, there is no sin in all the world that you can capture me in, because I don’t care. I have no more
– do you hear what it says in Hebrews here? – no more consciousness of sin.

Page 19 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water.
(Hebrews 10:19–22)

10 For the law, having a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of the
things, can never with these same sacrifices, which they offer continually year by year, make
those who approach perfect. 2 For then would they not have ceased to be offered? For the
worshipers, once purified, would have had no more consciousness of sins. 3 But in those
sacrifices there is a reminder of sins every year. 4 For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and
goats could take away sins. (Hebrews 10:1–4)

Do you have a consciousness of sin? Now look, that doesn’t mean you’re not aware of sin, it just means
you don’t have a guilty conscience over it because you put the blood on it.
So you cannot get me under guilt, because the blood covers my guilt.

28
For this is My blood of the new covenant, which is shed for many for the remission of sins.
(Matthew 26:28)

18
knowing that you were not redeemed with corruptible things, like silver or gold, from your
aimless conduct received by tradition from your fathers, 19 but with the precious blood of Christ,
as of a lamb without blemish and without spot. (1 Peter 1:18–19)

You cannot get me under condemnation, because the blood removes condemnation. Even if I feel
guilty, I’m not guilty! I am never guilty!

7
But if we walk in the light as He is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the
blood of Jesus Christ His Son cleanses us from all sin. (1 John 1:7)

There is no more sin that can condemn!

8 There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk
according to the flesh, but according to the Spirit. 2 For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus
has made me free from the law of sin and death. (Romans 8:1–2)

Where is it?! Now, I’m talking as one who is standing in the presence of God, I’m not talking as a
sinner. I’m talking as one standing in the presence of God, and Whosoever will, may come, covered
with the blood, with my faith in that blood. I don’t need a rope, there’s no veil. I can go right into the
presence of God and touch the railing (hitting the railing): “I did it. No lightning. No anger. No wrath!

Page 20 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
9
Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through
Him. (Romans 5:9)

God has no wrath for his children!

10
and to wait for His Son from heaven, whom He raised from the dead, even Jesus who delivers
us from the wrath to come. (1 Thessalonians 1:10)

I am his beloved child. Why? Because I’ve got the blood, because I trust in the blood, because I
believe in the blood. Do you have doubt? Sure. Do you have sin? Sure. But I cover those doubts, I
cover those sins, I cover everything with the blood! I’m like that high priest – I sprinkle it on
everything!

24
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better
things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24)

I want to shower myself with blood, because this pleases God, and this is just the beginning. The blood
only gets you into the presence of God. Once you’re in, you don’t go back out! Now, the high priest
came back out. After the high priest went in behind the curtain – this was one day only, Yom Kippur,
the Day of Atonement – then he came back out and he showed it to everybody, and everybody let up a
festal shout when he appeared, saying, “Praise God! Hallelujah! Our sins are forgiven!” – for another
few minutes. And then the next day, on Monday, so to speak, they would have to start all over again,
with bulls and goats and pigeons and all that stuff. More blood! More blood! More blood! Blood was to
cover blood, all the things that they had done. The sin – they would have to cover it with blood, because
without blood there is no forgiveness of sins, so they had to have blood, blood, blood!

11
For the life of the flesh is in the blood, and I have given it to you upon the altar to make
atonement for your souls; for it is the blood that makes atonement for the soul.’ (Leviticus 17:11)

22
And according to the law almost all things are purified with blood, and without shedding of
blood there is no remission. (Hebrews 9:22)

And you read how much blood flows in the Old Testament. Whew! That was a bloody God. Do you
understand?
Now once for all, it’s done forever, for anybody – not just Jews, not just Catholics, not just
Lutherans, not just Methodists, not just ‘good guys’. Anybody can come if they believe in the blood of
Jesus and stand in the very presence of God.

14
For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)

Page 21 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
17
then He adds, “Their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.” 18 Now where there
is remission of these, there is no longer an offering for sin. (Hebrews 10:17–18)

I don’t care if you’ve been a Jehovah’s Witness, if you’ve been a witch, if you’ve been a
homosexual, if you’ve been a murderer; if you cover yourself with the blood then you can come
into the presence of God and stand there and not leave!

10
By that will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for
all. (Hebrews 10:10)
(Hebrews 10:19–23)

Now, the high priest had to leave. After he’d been in there and was virtually sprinkled, he had to walk
out again and live among the people. We never leave the presence of God because this blood was
once for all, and then Jesus sat down!

23
Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for He who promised is faithful.
(Hebrews 10:23)

2
through whom also we have access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and rejoice in
hope of the glory of God. (Romans 5:2)

And where are we? We are seated with Christ in the heavenly places;

6
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
(Ephesians 2:6)

and where is he? He’s in the Holy of Holies! And he sat down, he’s not getting up! He’s going to stay
there.
I tell you this, we don’t come to church to get glorified. We don’t come to church to get changes.
We are the Holy of Holies walking around because God is with us

27
To them God willed to make known what are the riches of the glory of this mystery among the
Gentiles: which is Christ in you, the hope of glory. (Colossians 1:27)

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT
20
I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life
which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself
for me. (Galatians 2:20)

because we’re hidden under the blood. The blood is covering us, and we don’t even notice how
much sin we’ve got. We don’t even measure it. We’re not even conscious of it anymore! Do you know
what I’m saying? We’re aware of it, but we don’t look at it!

3 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting
at the right hand of God. 2 Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3 For you
died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. (Colossians 3:1–3)

We’ve just got our eyes fixed on the Beloved because we’re in His presence. And that’s what the
blood does, it brings you into the presence, and the presence of God changes you and keeps you.

25
But he who looks into the perfect law of liberty and continues in it, and is not a forgetful hearer
but a doer of the work, this one will be blessed in what he does. (James 1:25)

And as it’s keeping you, and holding you, and you’re abiding in His presence, and the devil is trying to
steal you away and say, “Get away! Get away! Get away! Come back! You don’t belong there! You
don’t belong there! Get back! You’ve fallen down! You’re falling down now. You’ve failed! What are
you doing there? Get back!” But we just say nothing because the blood covers. I don’t even listen. “I
don’t care what you say, devil. I don’t care what you say, flesh. I don’t care what you say, world!”
God has said one thing: “I accept you. You are perfect. You are acceptable because of the blood.”

6
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved. 7 In Him
we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of His
grace (Ephesians 1:6–7)

Now then, the sign and guarantee that that’s true, you can’t just say that in words: “Because of the
blood of Jesus, I’m okay.” You can’t just say that in words. The sign that that’s true is a changed life.

9
(for the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness, and truth), 10 finding out what is
acceptable to the Lord. (Ephesians 5:9–10)

Page 23 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

Now listen to me carefully. The new commandment is not only that you believe on the Lord Jesus
Christ, but that truly you love the brethren.

7
Beloved, let us love one another, for love is of God; and everyone who loves is born of God
and knows God. 8 He who does not love does not know God, for God is love. (1 John 4:7–8)

You cannot say you’re a Christian and hate your brother.

20
If someone says, “I love God,” and hates his brother, he is a liar; for he who does not love
his brother whom he has seen, how can he love God whom he has not seen? 21 And this
commandment we have from Him: that he who loves God must love his brother also. (1 John
4:20–21)

You will learn to love the brethren. Now, you’ll have to go into the presence of God often and say,
“Now God, I did not love my brother.” Go in as you are, but then what changes you is his loving
presence. You can’t change you, you can’t say “Now I’m going to love David. He’s not very lovable but
I’m going to do my best.” How can you love someone who’s not loveable? You see? It’s easy, very
easy, because God has given me a new heart

3
For this is the love of God, that we keep His commandments. And His commandments are not
burdensome. 4 For whatever is born of God overcomes the world. And this is the victory that has
overcome the world—our faith. (1 John 5:3–4)

17
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all
things have become new. (2 Corinthians 5:17)

and God loves David as he is and God sees David even if David doesn’t see David, God sees David
through the blood.
Now, all men have not bought this, and if they don’t buy it, it’s critical. It’s going to cost them their
life not to believe this. But God isn’t going to say, “If you believe, I’ll give you the blood.” He’s already
given the blood, He’s already covered all, but they don’t believe it!

18
“He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who does not believe is condemned
already, because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. (John 3:18)

They don’t trust in it. They trust in their works.

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

3
And I testify again to every man who becomes circumcised that he is a debtor to keep the whole
law. 4 You have become estranged from Christ, you who attempt to be justified by law; you have
fallen from grace. (Galatians 5:3–4)

They trust in their own thoughts. They trust in their emotions, they trust in psychology, they trust in
themselves. They don’t trust in the blood of Jesus, they trust in something else. Oh! Believe it! So God –
that God that lives in me, that Holy of Holies, glorified, majestic, wonderful, glorious God – changes me
and I am able to love David whether he’s a sinner or a saint, whether he’s up today or down today,
whether he’s mean toward me or nice toward me, whether he’s a phony or genuine, whether he’s fat or
skinny, rich or poor, it doesn’t make any difference whatsoever, I’m made of love. Now how did I get
that? First of all, a new heart; but second of all, by standing and abiding in the presence of God. It’s
the presence of God that changed me, not the blood. The blood let me stay there. The blood
brought me there into His presence so I could stay in the Name.

3
You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you. 4 Abide in Me, and I in
you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless
you abide in Me.
5
“I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit;
for without Me you can do nothing. (John 15:3–5)

Otherwise, I would’ve been killed on the spot and they’d have to pull me out. But you can’t pull me
out! I’m tied to the Rock! The law is not going to get me because the ark is my salvation! (or, The law
is not going to accuse me, because the ark of the covenant reveals His presence, because my sins are
covered by Jesus’ blood.) Jesus, who was holy, has now become my holiness!

17
Love has been perfected among us in this: that we may have boldness in the day of
judgment; because as He is, so are we in this world. (1 John 4:17)

Jesus, who was pure, has now become my purity! Jesus, who was wise, has now become my wisdom!
There is no wisdom apart from me now. There is no purity apart from me now. I have now, by the
blood of Jesus and my faith in it, been incorporated into the very nature of God: I am in truth the
Holy of Holies, the dwelling place of the living God.

30
But of Him you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God—and righteousness
and sanctification and redemption—31 that, as it is written, “He who glories, let him glory in the
LORD.” (1 Corinthians 1:30–31)

10
For we are His workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared
beforehand that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:10)

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD

3
And I heard a loud voice from heaven saying, “Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and
He will dwell with them, and they shall be His people. God Himself will be with them and be
their God. (Revelation 21:3)

Do you understand that? I am the ark of God. Now, I’m not it but I am so much a part of it that you
might as well say I’m it. When you find me, you’ve found God. When you see me, you’ve seen God,
when you touch me, you’ve touched God.

30
For we are members of His body, of His flesh and of His bones. (Ephesians 5:30)

3
as His divine power has given to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the
knowledge of Him who called us by glory and virtue, 4 by which have been given to us
exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these you may be partakers of the divine
nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust. (2 Peter 1:3–4)

You understand what I’m saying is I’m not God, I’m not the ark, I’m not the Holy of Holies, but it’s so
intimate that you can’t tell the difference. The armor covers so well, as far as you’re concerned there’s
no distinction.
However, you not only want to be forgiven, you want to get rid of your sins, don’t you? Yeah! Once
you fall in love with Jesus, you want to be like him. Here you are looking into the pure Jesus and you
want to be like him, that’s what changes you, looking at Jesus – His purity changes you. The blood
covers but it doesn’t remove the sin. It removes sin in this sense only: that it removes guilt and gives you
a new heart, but it doesn’t remove sin in your soul, or in your life, or in your walk. You still sin in your
soul, and in your life, and in your walk, but go into the presence of God, which the blood brings
you into, the Holy of Holies, where you change in His presence, so that you really do love the
brethren; you really do worship God and minister unto the Lord. You really are able to do all
things through Christ which strengthens you. Blood → faith → change, while I thank, praise, and
adore Him.
But what does that? Not prayer. Not discipline: “Oh God, make me more pure!” That won’t do it.
“Oh God, I’m getting up at five, I hope this will do it.” It won’t do it. “God, I’ve been to church three
times this week, I’ve done everything you’ve told me to do.” That won’t do it. There’s only one thing
that will do it, and most Christians do not know this: stand and bask yourself, enjoy yourself in the
presence of Almighty God, with faith in the blood to cover you – with the blood, with the blood –
and God will do all the changes in His Presence!

5
Why are you cast down, O my soul?
And why are you disquieted within me?
Hope in God, for I shall yet praise Him

For the help of His countenance. (Psalm 42:5)

3
For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword,
Nor did their own arm save them;
But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance,
Because You favored them. (Psalm 44:3)

15
Blessed are the people who know the joyful sound!
They walk, O LORD, in the light of Your countenance. (Psalm 89:15)

If I’m telling the truth, you will know. If I’m not, you will know. I tell you, go into the presence of
God with your sin today; nothing’s keeping you.

16
Let us therefore come boldly to the throne of grace, that we may obtain mercy and find grace
to help in time of need. (Hebrews 4:16)

(Hebrews 10:19–23)

You could worship God with all your heart. I don’t care how you feel on the inside or what
your thoughts are or how you’re bogged down. Just put the blood over it, go on in, and say, “God,
I’m acceptable to you! I’m pleasant in your sight! I am a joy for you!”

14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(Hebrews 9:14)

24
to Jesus the Mediator of the new covenant, and to the blood of sprinkling that speaks better
things than that of Abel. (Hebrews 12:24)

“I am your inheritance! You love me! You’ve accepted me in the beloved!”

6
to the praise of the glory of His grace, by which He made us accepted in the Beloved.
(Ephesians 1:6)

20
and by Him to reconcile all things to Himself, by Him, whether things on earth or things in
heaven, having made peace through the blood of His cross. (Colossians 1:20)

“Praise God, we are one!” And God will say, “Amen!”

15
For you did not receive the spirit of bondage again to fear, but you received the Spirit of
adoption by whom we cry out, “Abba, Father.” 16 The Spirit Himself bears witness with our spirit
that we are children of God, (Romans 8:15–16)

He won’t say, “What are you doing in here? Clean up!”

9
For he who lacks these things is shortsighted, even to blindness, and has forgotten that he was
cleansed from his old sins. (2 Peter 1:9)

He won’t say that. He won’t say, “You’d better go home first. You’d better go through discipleship class
first. You need something more.” No, you don’t need anything. You’ve got the blood. You’ve got it
all. The blood brings you in, and the presence changes you. The glory of God changes you.
Beholding His face, as in a mirror, we are changed from one degree of glory to another.

And I tell you, that’s what’s changed my life. Everything in my life that’s been changed, I have not done
any of it. I’m exactly the same as I always was. I’m only more aware of my sin than I was before. But I
know one thing else that’s bigger and more important than that. I don’t even bother with that anymore. I
don’t even note it anymore. I used to take copious notes on that: “Oh, how terrible I am!” But then I just
need a little more blood. And I found out I needed all the blood I can get! The more I got before
God and the light of God shone on me, there was nothing good in me.

18
For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh) nothing good dwells; for to will is present with me,
but how to perform what is good I do not find. (Romans 7:18)

And I could confess that very honestly. God knew there was no good in me, and God said, “Take the
blood. Apply the blood to the lintel. Sprinkle the blood, put the blood on yourself, your house is okay.

23
For the LORD will pass through to strike the Egyptians; and when He sees the blood on the
lintel and on the two doorposts, the LORD will pass over the door and not allow the destroyer to
come into your houses to strike you. (Exodus 12:23)

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

You are safe. You’re acceptable. Moreover, because you have the blood, I will give you now my
Spirit.

53
Then Jesus said to them, “Most assuredly, I say to you, unless you eat the flesh of the Son
of Man and drink His blood, you have no life in you. 54 Whoever eats My flesh and drinks My
blood has eternal life, and I will raise him up at the last day. 55 For My flesh is food indeed, and
My blood is drink indeed. 56 He who eats My flesh and drinks My blood abides in Me, and I in
him. 57 As the living Father sent Me, and I live because of the Father, so he who feeds on Me will
live because of Me. (John 6:53–57)

7
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the
riches of His grace (Ephesians 1:7)
13
In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation; in
whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise, (Ephesians 1:13)

I will give you now My holiness. I will give you now My nature.

4
by which have been given to us exceedingly great and precious promises, that through these
you may be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world
through lust. (2 Peter 1:4)

And you will conquer! And the devil will not only not be able to resist you but you will knock down
his strongholds. You will take away all his goods. And by the time you get done with this world – Jesus
is not going to come yet. I know He is not going to come because we’re not done. The bride that He
would get today, her hair would be in curlers and straggly. He’s going to have a beautiful bride. We
haven’t yet done what we are to do. Certainly we haven’t saved enough people, but I mean more than
that. I mean, we’re going to take this world. Do you understand? And the world will not stop us because
they don’t have gates strong enough to stop us.

9
and to make all see what is the fellowship of the mystery, which from the beginning of the ages
has been hidden in God who created all things through Jesus Christ; 10 to the intent that now the
manifold wisdom of God might be made known by the church to the principalities and powers in
the heavenly places, (Ephesians 3:9–10)

18
And I also say to you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build My church, and the gates
of Hades shall not prevail against it. (Matthew 16:18)

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

This is my overcoming the world. You probably don’t know what I’m talking about, but we’re going,
and it’s by the blood and the Spirit of God!

2
elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for
obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. (1
Peter 1:2)

They don’t know about the blood. We’ve got good news for them, the blood will cover anything
you’ve got; your goodness and your badness, because it’s all bad; it’s all the same thing.

9
If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all
unrighteousness. (1 John 1:9)

14
how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered Himself
without spot to God, cleanse your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
(Hebrews 9:14)

And the blood covers. And it just gives you immediate access; boldness of access into the presence of
God.

12
in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through faith in Him. (Ephesians 3:12)

You’ve got it. Don’t ever let it go. Don’t let anyone steal that from you. Don’t let anyone take that from
you.

3
Yet not even Titus who was with me, being a Greek, was compelled to be circumcised. 4 And
this occurred because of false brethren secretly brought in (who came in by stealth to spy out our
liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage), 5 to whom we did
not yield submission even for an hour, that the truth of the gospel might continue with you.
(Galatians 2:3–5)

You have the dahm, the blood. You have that, and the devil can’t stop you. I’m covered.

11
And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they
did not love their lives to the death. (Revelation 12:11)

Page 30 of 33 October 10, 1982

THE POWER OF THE BLOOD
PASTOR-TEACHER JAMES A. BORCHERT

Let’s cover ourselves right now. I’m covered. I’m just going to sprinkle myself all over. Every
thought – let’s sprinkle our thoughts, every rotten thought – it’s gone. It’s gone. Now, it’s not removed,
but it’s gone, isn’t it? Its power is gone. First of all, there is no guilt for it. I don’t feel guilty for my
thoughts. Let’s say it: “I don’t feel guilty for my thoughts.” Come on! Keep sprinkling, it won’t hurt
you. All right. Now my emotions: “I don’t feel guilty over all my unhappy, miserable emotions!” My
desires: “I don’t feel guilty for any of my desires! The guilt is removed. I am pure in God’s sight. The
blood has done it. I have faith in the blood. I am clean. Now it’s not gone, I still feel the feelings, I still
think the thoughts, I still desire the desires, but I’m covering them and I’m clean! And now the
presence of God which cannot leave me, can never go away;

8
But God demonstrates His own love toward us, in that while we were still sinners, Christ died
for us. 9 Much more then, having now been justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath
through Him. 10 For if when we were enemies we were reconciled to God through the death of
His Son, much more, having been reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. (Romans 5:8–10)

5
Let your conduct be without covetousness; be content with such things as you have. For He
Himself has said, “I will never leave you nor forsake you.” (Hebrews 13:5)

my salvation cannot leave me because I’ve got the blood. Come on! Keep sprinkling, you’re wearing
down. His presence will change me from one degree of glory to another.

18
But we all, with unveiled face, beholding as in a mirror the glory of the Lord, are being
transformed into the same image from glory to glory, just as by the Spirit of the Lord. (2
Corinthians 3:18)

Hallelujah!
O Father God, we thank You, we love You, we adore You, we worship You. Father God, we know
that we are acceptable. It’s getting so good it’s hard to believe it. It must be wrong. It’s too good. It has
to be a mistake. If we hadn’t found it in your word, Lord God, we wouldn’t believe it. It seems too good
to be true. But that’s what Hebrews was written for. That’s why Galatians was written. That’s why Paul
wrote Romans. That’s why Jesus blew everybody’s mind. That’s why Jeremiah 31 was written, to say
there’s a New Covenant, and it’s a blood covenant,

25
In the same manner He also took the cup after supper, saying, “This cup is the new covenant in
My blood. This do, as often as you drink it, in remembrance of Me.” (1 Corinthians 11:25)

and God has done it all;

For by one offering He has perfected forever those who are being sanctified. (Hebrews 10:14)

how could I do anything?

19
for the law made nothing perfect; on the other hand, there is the bringing in of a better hope,
through which we draw near to God. (Hebrews 7:19)

I can only enter into what’s already been done, and what God does is perfect. What God does is
finished.

30
So when Jesus had received the sour wine, He said, “It is finished!” And bowing His head, He
gave up His spirit. John 19:30)

What God does is full of rest, and I’m resting, I’m sitting down.

10
For he who has entered His rest has himself also ceased from his works as God did from His.
11
Let us therefore be diligent to enter that rest, lest anyone fall according to the same example of
disobedience. (Hebrews 4:10–11)

I’m sitting down with Jesus.

6
and raised us up together, and made us sit together in the heavenly places in Christ Jesus,
(Ephesians 2:6)

Oh Jesus! I love You! We love You. You love us and nothing can separate us. Nothing can
separate us! Not all the thoughts, not all the feelings, not all the emotions, not all the desires, not
all the behavior, not all the acts, not all the world can separate us from the blood. The blood has
separated us unto Thee. We are separated, made holy, sanctified unto Thee, forever. Forever! Pleasing,
well-pleasing in Thy sight. Oh God, we just love You so much.
We expect things to happen this morning. We believe right now, Lord God, that You are doing
miracles in our midst. We don’t believe in just words. We believe that the Word becomes flesh. We
don’t believe in just preaching, we believe that the One who is preached, even the Lord God, is in our
midst through the blood. We believe the presence of God is here and the glory of God, to heal, to make
whole, to make happy. We believe that our faith is not in our faith, but in the blood. Our faith is in
Your faithfulness, that You have kept the covenant, that You have not lied to us.
And we thank You that we stand now in the presence of God which is changing right now this
people. We are being changed right now from one degree of glory to another. We just can’t help it.
Those that are covered with the blood are just being changed. They are being made holy. You

cannot walk out of this building today and leave the glory behind; you’ve got it! You’re taking it with
you, it’s going to change you, and your family, your work, your neighborhood, your world.
God, I commission at this very hour this people who are going forth to share the good news of the
blood of Jesus, the forgiveness and the mercy of the blood of Jesus in a way like they’ve never shared
before, not only with words but with their lives: freedom, sweet, and enjoyable, and changed! Because if
the blood has come and if we’re covered, if we’ve taken it, Lord God, then the presence is with us. And
no man can go into the presence of God and not be changed. No man can dwell in the presence of
God and remain impure. We are being purified in a glorious and wonderful way. Amen.

I want all the elders to come forward at this time, those men who are provisional leaders…
