The themes of partnership and collaboration have become more and more important to the association as the industry in Indonesia has matured and competition for investment funds has become increasingly global. With that in mind, the association chose the theme of “Promoting Investment Through Partners! for the 31st Indonesian Petroleum Association Convention and Exhibition. The quality of the papers presented at the convention and in the proceedings volume is in our view as high as ever; the variety is perhaps wider. Contributions have been made from government agencies, oil and gas companies, academics and students, service companies and industry lobby groups. Topics range from those viewed as the more conventional territory of the IPA such as Oligo-Miocene carbonate geology and case studies of Indonesian discoveries and developments to the less conventional such as communications, data management technology and industry transparency. In selecting these papers, we have tried not to forget our core constituency, the geoscientists and engineers working on Indonesian assets, but we have also tried to recognize that energy sector partnerships are more broadly defined these days. Papers have also been included that relate to areas outside Indonesia such as Brunei, Malaysia and even the North Sea. In each case, we considered that there was a learning opportunity directly applicable to Indonesia. We are particularly appreciative of the many people who have given their own time to support the 2007 convention and its technical program. The proceedings are available in hard copy and on CD-ROM. Individual papers are also accessible on line at http:/www.ipa.or.id/catalogues/catalogues.asp. Proceedings from previous conventions and IPA affiliated workshops have also now been scanned and all papers are available for purchase either singly from the website or on CD for the entire back catalogue. The petroleum resources of the Republic of Indonesia have been found and developed by partnerships. Our ability to collaborate and co-operate will undoubtedly determine the success of our attempts to meet the country's production targets and provide improved benefits to our ultimate partners, the people of Indonesia. We hope that you find these technical papers useful in that quest. Technical Program Committee, Greg Harr Vice-Ch: ..
