SCIENCE AND THEOLOGY

In our world today, in order to prove something, it should be based on science. Anything
can explain by science, even a complicated thing. Science became the basis to say that an
experiences, claims or beliefs are true. The aim of science is to pursuit for truth. This aim
sometimes brings us into confusion. Different people have their own claims and this claims have
different basis. So that it cannot prevent to have a collision in ideas. But still they continue to
pursuit for truth.
On the other hand, the aim of theology is to pursuit also for truth. The works of
theologians is to explain the content of faith in connection with the magisterium. Magisterium
became an arbiter to prevent crash in different ideas. And if one idea is not connected to
magisterium it can consider as heretic. Also, theology helps the people to understand their beliefs
in line with the truth, that is God.
As a student of theology, it is important to understand science in doing theology
especially in some topics concerning creation. In our day today, in explaining creation story it
should be connected to science because there are theories arises who claims the real story of
creation. If we cannot explain the creation story on the way, the other theories done it would lead
to confusion. Like the Big bang theory, it is the leading explanation on how the universe began.
It says that around 13.7 billion years ago, everything in the entire universe was condensed in an
infinitesimally small singularity, a point of infinite denseness and heat suddenly explosive
expansion began. If an ordinary people hear this theory he easily believes in this claim, because
it is rooted in science. Also, we need to understand the other theories in order to see the
differences and to know the approaches that they used. So that, we can explain the creation story
on the way the people can grasp it. Science and theology are not enemy to one another. I believe
science help the theology in order to explain better the creation story. Also, it can lead us into a
single realization, that God is the source of everything. If they push us to believe about the
theories of creation, they must believe also that before the universe began, there is God. Before
the universe began there is love, and tht love is God.
The aim of science as well as theology is the pursuit for truth. But they have different
disciplines and objects. The object of theology is God Himself. Theology focuses their studies on
God. And it can show that God is powerful and the creation story in the bible is possible. On the
other hand, the object of science is creation. Everything that can perceive by the senses, it is their
object in doing studies. In this sense, theology is more on direct rather than science. And at the
end of the day the theology and science ends into the everlasting truth that is God.
