With suitable examples, explain the difference between the concept of grid computing and
The main activities being cloud computing and grid computing. Yet grid computing is not a
component of cloud computing. Grid computing is not a cloud. Both require and maintain large
computing infrastructures. The principles of cloud computing and grid computing have been
created for distributed computing, i.e., computing a wide area of computers practically isolated
by some means.
Differences in definition:
The computing done through the grid systems is coordinated and connected so that they can
together be able to solve a problem. Besides, all servers and personal computers are linked to a
common network using a wide area network to complete a grid system. According to the way all
grid systems are connected to each system, all the systems connected can communicate with
each other directly or through the use of scheduling techniques available in the system. However,
cloud computing is defined as the use of remote servers used in the storage of data. It mainly
assists its users to have a good guarantee on the demand of the stored data at any time of the day.
In grid computing, a single task is divided into many tasks where each computer is assigned with
a sub-task. However, after completing them, the combined results obtained from each computer
are sent back to the main machine, unlike in grid computing, where cloud computing can provide
The cloud computing available in grid computing is distributed among all the different
computers located in diverse locations. Besides, on the other hand, cloud computing can manage
its resources centrally in data centers that belong to cloud computing service providers.
Architecture type
Grid computing makes use of distributed architecture, whereas cloud computing takes the use of
a client-server architecture.
