Data Visualization using SAP Analytics Cloud

Assignment Value: 10 points (i.e., 10 percent of your final grade)

Instructions: In this assignment, you will use SAP Analytics Cloud to analyze and visualize Google Play
Store Apps data. Read through this instruction carefully, prepare a single file that answers the questions
at the end of this document and submit it on Brightspace.

NOTE: You MUST use Google Chrome for SAP Analytics Cloud.

Overview

The Google Play Store is an online mobile marketplace for Android applications. The dataset analyzed in
this exercise contains data from 7016 Google Play Store apps. Original dataset was provided by Lavanya
Gupta on Kaggle and modified by Qi Deng to better fit this exercise. You can learn more about the original
data here (https://www.kaggle.com/lava18/google-play-store-apps). The Google Play Store Apps data has
potential to drive app-making businesses to success. Through analyzing and visualizing this data, valuable
insights can be drawn for app developers to work on and understand the Android market.

Preparation: Download Data from Brightspace

For this assignment, you need to download the data file (googleplaystore.xlsx) from Brightspace. In
Brightspace, you can find the data files by going to: Content Assignment Files Assignment 3

Questions

IMPORTANT NOTE
• The following questions of this assignment will be marked based on numerical answers, discussion
answers and the screen capture of your visualization results, depending on the directives of each
questions.

• You must select proper type of visualization to support your answer. Proper visualizations should be
the ones that can stand alone to answer the questions, that is, the answers to the questions can be
directly observed from the visualizations.

• The visualizations need to be beautiful, complete, with proper decimal places, sorting, color, size,
ratio, etc. The key information must be clearly showing in visualizations properly and completely.

SUBMISSION INSTRUCTION
To answer the questions, you need to:
• Create a new word file, copy the following questions to the word file
• Under each question, provide your answers, and attached the screenshots of your visualizations
that support your answers.
• After you finish, save and rename the word file as follows, FirstName_LastName_A3b. Then,
submit the file on Brightspace.
• You can use Word – Insert – Screenshot to take screenshots if you want.

Q1: Which category had the most reviews? How many reviews (in total) does this category has?
Which category had the least reviews? How many reviews (in total) does this category has?

Q2. What are the average rating scores of each app category? Which app category has the highest
average rating score? Which category has the lowest average rating score?

Q3. What are the top 20 rated apps in the game category? What are the top 20 reviewed apps in the
game category?
(Answer – 0.5 point; Visualization – 0.5 point)

Q4: In the Medical category, what are the top 10 priced apps? Which app has the highest price? What
is its price?

Q5: Apps are categorized in terms of content rating. Which category accounts for the largest portion
of Everyone app, Everyone 10+ app, Mature 17+ app, and Teen app?

Q6: Does there appear to be a relationship between app size and rating score?

Q7: Overall, how many apps are free, and how many apps are paid?

Q8: In three paragraphs or less, explain why businesses should (or should not) adopt data driven
decision making. A good answer to this question will reference at least two high quality sources (0.125
point), would explain what this phrase means (0.125 point), would make a substantive argument for
its position using strategic reasoning (0.5 points), would make no spelling or grammar mistakes (0.125
points), and would follow APA citation style properly (0.125 points). (NOTE: you do not need to
provide visualization for this question)

Q9: Now you have developed the analytics skills with SAP Analytics Cloud. In this question, you will
need to 1) find your own data; 2) come up with two questions that you want to answer or business
insights you want to develop; 3) create appropriate charts in SAP Analytics Cloud and answer your
questions.
