3. Equipment Needed- scrapbook, pictures, scissors, glue/tape, stickers, and markers (if
participant chooses to decorate book)
4. Activity Description –
1. Step 1- Acquire scrapbook, pictures, tape or glue, and supplies you
will need to decorate, depending on participant’s choice
2. Step 2- Participant cuts pictures
3. Step 3- Participant glues cut pictures onto scrapbook pages
4. Step 4- Decorate page with drawings/stickers if wanted
5. Step 5- Turn page and repeat steps 2-4 throughout entirety of
scrapbook
5. Primary social interaction pattern(s) (activity analysis) – This activity’s primary social
interaction patter is extra-individual. This activity can be completed in a group setting
with participants doing the same activity as the same time, however it is individualized
because no two scrapbooks are the same. I also think this activity can be inter-group.
There is no competitive nature in scrapbooking, but there may need to be some verbal
interaction between participants if materials such as scissors, glue, tape, or stickers are
shared. The benefit of scrapbooking can help a participant reminisce on their life and
their memories. This can be benefit patients of dementia by preserving memories,
providing emotional nourishment, exercises cognitive skills, and boots the participant’s
sense of accomplishment. This form of expressive art therapy can also improve
morality and decrease loneliness.
6. Adaptation: Some adaptive equipment used could be adaptive scissors, such as easy-
grip or loop scissors for the participant. This can prevent any injury and assist the client
in cutting pictures safety and effectively. Also, keeping a file or box with the
participant’s name on it that holds all her pictures, supplies, and materials would assist
her, so she does not take materials that do not belong to her.
7. Participant: 75-year-old woman diagnosed with early onset dementia.
