Valentine's Day (USA) vs Amor y Amistad's Day (Colombia)
Although they are different dates their main objective is love, the arrival of Valentine's day in the
United States in February and the Amor y Amistad's day in Colombia in September have almost
similar rituals, for example: in Valentine's day we know that it is more the day with your partner,
but in Colombia, Amor y Amistad's day is more inclusive that you celebrate it with friends and
family. Single people are more animated on Amor y Amistad's day than on Valentine's day. the
festivity in the United States has more demand and at the same time more demanding than in
Colombia because of the economic quality, from hundreds of roses, a trip to another country, eating
in a famous or expensive restaurant and even a car, but without forgetting a marriage proposal and
other things more because every year the demand for gifts to impress the person you love increases.
In Colombia, we are "Americanizing" from having to celebrate in September and in February, but
the tradition that in our day is more dynamic, weeks before we get ready for the "secret friend"
gather several families or work friends, have the names of people on each piece of paper and
randomly choose a paper where is the name of a person and before the day you give him candy
without knowing that you were who he is until the day comes and you give him a special gift.
About the food, normally you give chocolates, but here in Colombia we are more diverse, if you are
so interested in that person is better to give him/her what he/she likes, some do not like chocolate,
there are options such as fruit salad, cupcakes, a surprise vegetarian style lunch or someone who
likes meat, pasta is a good choice, some personalized dessert with his/her name and many more
things, the important thing is to express and that these days are celebrated with everyone.
