1.1 General
The supplementary booklet complements the information provided in the type series
booklet with a view to the standard pump programme and any approved variants.
Orders for the standard pump programme are processed on the basis of the type
series booklet and the pump price list, whereas orders for approved variants are
handled on the basis of KM 2002 or KSB EasySelect.

pump.

Standard speed for all sizes:
▪ n = 960 rpm (50 Hz)
▪ n = 1160 rpm (60 Hz)
▪ n = 1450 rpm (50 Hz)
▪ n = 1750 rpm (60 Hz)

1.5.5 Flow rate

1.5.6 Head
The head developed by the individual sizes is determined by the following
parameters:
▪ Rotational speed of the impeller
▪ Diameter reduction range of the impeller
▪ Permissible pump discharge pressure for higher fluid densities

1.5.7 NPSH
The NPSH values indicated in the characteristic curves are measured values which
correspond to a 3 % drop of the head.
Generally desirable:
NPSHavailable - NPSHpump ≥ 0.5 m

1.6.5 Lubrication and lubricant change

1.6.5.1 Grease quality


We recommend using Petro-Canada Peerless LLG high-temperature grease or an
equivalent product for lubrication. Under unfavourable operating conditions, e.g.
high room temperature, high atmospheric humidity, dust-laden air, aggressive
atmosphere etc., check the bearings earlier and, if required, clean and re-lubricate
them, preferably with Petro-Canada Peerless LLG.

The grease quantity indicated must be used for each single bearing of a bearing pair.

1.6.5.3 Intervals
▪ Under suitable operating conditions the grease-lubricated bearings will run for
25,000 operating hours.
▪ Under unfavourable operating conditions (e.g. high room temperature, high
atmospheric humidity, dust-laden air, aggressive industrial atmosphere) check
the bearings earlier and clean and re-lubricate them, if required.
▪ Replace the rolling element bearings after 25,000 operating hours or 3 years of
continuous operation.

1.6.6 Shaft seal


▪ KSB mechanical seal, optimised for installation in an HPK-L pump, with
integrated shaft sleeve (standard Europe)
▪ Optional commercial single mechanical seals with replaceable shaft sleeve
(standard Asia/Americas)
▪ Versions with two mechanical seals can be supplied for heat transfer applications.

Pressure and temperature limits of the mechanical seals
The application limits of mechanical seals depend on the following:
▪ Circumferential speed
▪ Material
▪ Fluid handled
Verify the values in each individual case on the basis of manufacturers' catalogues,
taking into account the actual operating conditions.

Barrier fluid
Barrier fluid is used to prevent the pumped fluid from escaping to the atmosphere.
The space between the mechanical seals must be supplied with a fluid from an
external source which is suitable for mixing with the fluid pumped.

The heat generated at the seal faces can only be dissipated if the barrier fluid is
circulated. This can be realised by natural circulation using the thermosyphon effect
(gravity).

Permissible P/n values


The values indicated refer to various material combinations at a temperature of
20 °C. For specific material combinations (shaft, impeller, key) higher values might be

Selecting the size
The size is usually selected by the selection program. A rough selection can be made
based on the relevant selection charts. This rough selection must be checked against
the characteristic curve.

Clearances
The back pull-out unit must be removed to check the clearances.
If the clearance is larger than permitted (see the following table), fit a new casing
wear ring 502.01 and/or 502.02.
The clearances given refer to the diameter.

1.6.9 Baseplate
Europe To KSB standard ZN 24259 (ISO 3661), made of GG-25 or welded steel. These
baseplates have the following advantages:
▪ Standardised connection dimensions for pump sets (with motor) with spacer-type
couplings
▪ Improved bending and torsional resistance
▪ All sizes suitable for installation without a foundation
▪ Drain sump, also on cast baseplates
▪ Additional anchorage holes for increased piping forces and moments (alternative
mounting option)
Larger baseplates to KSB works standard AN 845, made of welded steel. For
baseplate dimensions and combinations please refer to the general arrangement
drawings.
Baseplates made of channel section steel or folded steel plate to ZN 1393.

If the values indicated are insufficient, a calculation can be performed in individual
cases against a surcharge. The expected loads need to be provided for the calculation
(line of action, magnitude, sense and point of application).

1.6.11 Installation
In addition to installation on a concrete foundation and with a grouted baseplate,
the following installation types are possible:
▪ Baseplate bolted to the foundation but not grouted (preferably using the
alternative mounting option).
▪ Baseplate not bolted to the foundation, but installed on levelling devices and
machine bases.
Here, the permissible nozzle loads are not determined by the pump and the
baseplate but by the mounting elements.
General arrangement drawings are prepared as separate documentation.
