Reflective essay

By Ricardo Molina Valencia

There are many aspects to think about when I want to diving in the
Colombian educational bilingual context regarding how the English language is
introducing in our students. Actually, those elements are precisely connected with
several pedagogical strategies that embrace and motivate to discover different
methods that influence teachers and professors not only to introduce in the role of
teaching, but also in many opportunities as a student, who also learn and practice
regularly new aspects about the language and teaching as well. Thus, the role of
the bilingual teacher is permanently to discover and to apply diverse methods of
teaching to innovate the introduction and application of languages, which
nowadays are not only part of book and dictionaries, distantly, they are even closer
to us on every corner, within of technology and communication systems which are
evidently part of significant evolution of cultures and societies.

Having such perspective, the role of the bilingual teacher in our education
system is also to share and explore experiences in how languages have been
creating importance to know and speak not only one or two languages, even more.
This opportunity motivates students to discover and appreciate that verbal
communication has many forms and this skill enables them to make vital
connections with other people around the world.

Understanding this appreciation, I highly expect that this master program will
contribute with my professional development applying these concepts of modernity
in teaching. Taking as a reference different experiences of outstanding professors
in the language program in my university, who have made me explore and
motivate to find out new outlooks in how introduce my pedagogical ambient with
my students, and how it will contribute to develop new strategies to reach new
points of authority in bilingualism. Therefore, my vision is represented by the way
to come upon and compare another scenario where bilingualism is also applied,
and certainly reflect and analyze how these methods might be implemented in
different contexts where the utilization of another language unlike of the mother
tongue is accurately promoted. For that reason, I am certainly persuaded in how
adequately study plans in teaching and learning languages will be able to generate
motivation and development not only for kids, teenagers or young people, but also
adult people who also want to explore nowadays knowing and speaking another
language as an affinity or necessity.

For a new perspective of teaching languages, I will highly expect to learn

and introduce in the research line; Teaching conceptions and transformations in
pedagogical practices because taking as a reference my previous definitions and
arguments, I think this research line is the most suitable topic for my interests.
Firstly, talking about transformations for instance, is to grasp and to scrutinize new
concepts for teaching languages implementing old concepts with new concepts
respecting to how to control, to use and to implement instruments that are related
with the evolution of education. These mechanisms are currently part of new
master programs in recognized universities not only in Colombia but also around
the world.

Secondly, as its name indicates, conceptions are properly the base and axis
of the professional educator who is consciously working and creating new schemes
concerning to develop a precise work inside the classroom. This means that
despite of the changes in education, basically new definitions about how to
educate are emerging around the world. Nevertheless, it does not indicate that is
determining to forget the concepts which education in history have been
implemented in different pedagogical scenarios like schools and universities. The
concept of education is practically necessary to check and rebuild old mindsets
regarding of changing the visions of people about new concepts of educations, for
example, to self study and how to do it, a new reference of teaching and learning
that is practicing presently in the entire world. Accordingly, it is quite necessary to
understand that educational systems and process are different respecting the
cultures and politics concepts, taking into consideration that to educate is only one
concept, but the different roles to create and apply cognitive elements are strongly
tied by the new alternatives of teaching and learning which are jointly dependent of
the culture the currently students are involved.

Finally, for me is necessary to start to innovate new theories about

education, with greater reason teaching new languages based on bilingualism or
multilingualism that are becoming rapidly growing interdisciplinary research for new
teachers and professors. Apparently to not to be on the sidelines, look forward to to
take control about the process and the end of becoming bilingual professionals,
discovering within this procedure to create and innovate new gadgets that let
students and teachers share multilingualism experiences with are surely part of this
master program. I highly expect to find many reasons to innovate my teaching
methods and contribute with experiences and results which might be motivate for
new teachers to illustrate and to recommend this master in Bilingual Education.
