1. Explain the phenomenon of consolidation of clays using Terzagi’s spring analogy model and
discuss its limitations.
2. Plot typical e-log p curves that you will get in a laboratory consolidation test the following
types of clays
i) Undisturbed normally consolidated clay
ii) Undisturbed over consolidated clay

3. Draw a typical ESP and TSP for a consolidated undrained triaxial test for an normally
consolidated and over consolidated clay specimen.

4. Show that in conventional CU triaxial test on normally consolidated soil the TSP raises at an
angle of 450.
