Description of organizational structure

ShireTown Veterinary Practice aims at improving the life quality of all animals across the

region. On this note, employees at the organization work towards attaining the mission.

ShireTown Veterinary Practice operates under a centralized organizational structure. On this

note, there is flow of decisions from top to bottom. It is through the structure that general

organizational information flows across various department within the company. For

instance, the company is led by executive managers who are assigned to lead teams

managed by practice managers. This way, ShireTown Veterinary Practice embrace

hierarchical organizational structure. The centralized organizational structure at

ShireTown offers guidance to the entire employees through laying out the reporting

relationships governing the organization’s workflow. Moreover, the formal outline of

the company’s structure makes it easier to include additional positions in the

organization. On this note, flexibility in the company is embraced for purposes of

promoting growth (Aspinall, 2014).

ShireTown’s structure also equips employees with clarity as it helps to manage their work

expectations. For instance, employees are assured that all information passed within the

organization is credible as supervisors and team leaders are always on the alert and

issues affecting their operations (Aspinall, 2012).

It is important for all employees to understand the relationship between the

management and organization when discussing matters of leadership. Understanding the

relationship encourages managers to face organizational challenges thus finding out better

ways of mitigating them. Gaining understanding of the relationship further enables

managers of the firm to administrate and manage global issues affecting the organization.

Most importantly, such efforts offer a better working environment for the employees

Impacts of veterinary legislations on ShireTown Veterinary Practice


The British royal new charter was amended in 2015 to advance and uphold veterinary

standards thus promoting, encouraging practice in the art of science. The British

amendment was put in place in the best interest of animal health and welfare. Such

legislations impact ShireTown positively as the firm would embrace the standards of

maintaining animal health. This way, organization mission is preserved in such a way that

customers are prone to visiting the same company for animal services.

The micro chipping and tail docking act of the British legislation finds tail docking and

micro chipping on dogs offensive. Unless the animal is assigned to a particular duty,

the process is considered illegal. ShireTown adheres to such British legislations thus

embracing sustainability in the market. Moreover, the assertion sis backed up by the fact

that firms that adhere to government procedures are likely to work effectively in the

market.

Analysis of responsibilities

The veterinary practice manager (VPM) ensures that the company offers a fully caring and

professional service to customers and their animals. On this note, it's is the responsibility of

the VPM to ensure the organization focuses on maintaining client relationships with the

help of better communication channels. The daily tasks of the VPM involve supervising all

departments in the practice to ensure work is done accordingly. The VPM is required to be a

fully qualified person based on work experience in the firm or a relevant field (Dodd et al.,

2020). Moreover, it is an essential that the VPM should embrace human ethics to prioritize

employee interests. However the organization's VPM is limited to making organizational

decisions on their own.


Veterinary receptionist is responsible for providing customer services such as

receiving calls, and answering of relevant information questions. On a daily basis, the

receptionist answers calls and schedules appointments. Public relations skills is required for

one to qualify as the firm's receptionist to help learn behavior of clients and respond to

them appropriately. However, the receptionist is limited to passing irrelevant information to

clients without the managerial approval.

The firm’s Vet surgeon (VS) is responsible for diagnosing sick animals with the aim of

treating them. On a daily basis, VS attends to sick animals based on report issued by clients

regarding the sickness. The position requires persons certified by the veterinary commission

that considers skills, talent and expertise. The VS is however limited to making independent

decisions regarding the company.

Veterinary nurse (VN) assist to manage the records of clients and their animals. On a daily

basis, VN attends to patients by gathering their records to give easy time to the VS. The VN

is h0owever limited to making final decisions regarding animal treatment (Harris, Reilly &

Baillie , 2020).

Role in practice

Modern veterinaries are doctors equipped with skills to protect the health and welfare of

both animals and clients. In this regard the role of vets involves addressing the welfare and

health needs of every species of animal. Furthermore, veterinarians play a significant role in

protecting the environment, food safety and general public health. Furthermore, the
dangerous dog act requires vaccination of animals. In response to the act. ShireTown would

offer free vaccination services (Rhee et al., 2020).

On this note, legislations such as micro chipping and tail docking act seek to

prevent molesting of animals for owners’ gain. In response to the legislation, the role

in practice of vets at ShireTown enables veterinarians to protect the environment by

considering animal rights.

The British royal new charter also shapes the role in practice of veterinarians at the

COSHH law requires employers to effectively control substances regarded hazardous to

health. In response to such law, Shire Town could set better ways of managing emergencies

and hazards (Harris, Reilly & Baillie , 2020).

The Animal Welfare Act (AWA) requires moderate standards of medical care to be

offered to certain animals especially those bred for commercial purposes. In response to

such law, Vet managers at Shire Town would consider survailling the medical workers for

efficiency and expected outcome.

In response to RIDDOR, organizations such as Shire Town encourages reporting of

dangerous animals and dangerous occurrences associated with animals. Finally, the
General Data Protection Regulation requires data privacy and protection. In

response to the legislation, vets at ShireTown the Practice manager ensures

computers are well set for data manipulation and backup. Security files are a

requirement in the company’s medical data (Cooper, Mullineaux & Turner, 2012).

Discussion of governing bodies

British Veterinary Association (BVA) aims to empower and support more than

18000 vets of all, stages, disciplines and ages. Both standard working vets and

young vets are considered by the body (BVA, 2021).

The British Small Animal Veterinary Association (BSAVA) BVA promotes the health

of small animals by ensuring vets are equipped with relevant and credible

knowledge. The body caters for the health of both animals and their owners (BSAVA,

2021).

British Veterinary Nursing Association (BVNA) supports and promotes animal welfare

and health through continuous development of excellence in the medical field. The body

caters for animals based on their welfare.

Finally, The Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons (RCVS) serves as the regulatory

body for veterinary surgeons. The body ensures monitoring of ethical, educational

and clinical standards in the vet profession. This way, the body evaluates the roles of

both vet nurses and vet surgeons. In this regard, DEFRA (2021) support that the body

embraces the code of practice under which safety and management of emergencies

is prioritized.
