This expression consists of the interrogative pronoun ‘뭐 (what)’+‘가 (subject
particle)’ and ‘있다(to be)’ which refers to the existence of an object or a person.
의문대명사 ‘뭐’와 사물이 존재하는 것을 나타내는 ‘있다’와의 결합으로 사물의
존재를 물을 때 사용한다.

The particle ‘에’ attached to a place noun, means ‘in’ or ‘at’ when it is followed
by verbs such as ‘있다(to be)/없다(not to be)/계시다(to be(honorific))/살다(to
live)’.
장소를 나타내는 명사 뒤에서 ‘있다/없다/계시다/살다’ 등과 함께 쓰여서 존재
(장소)상태를 나타낸다.
N이/가 있어요
‘있다’ refers to the existence of an object or a person. If the noun ends in a
consonant, ‘이 있어요’ must be used. If the noun ends in a vowel, ‘가 있어요’
must be used.
사물이 존재하는 것을 나타낸다. 명사가 자음으로 끝날 경우에는 ‘이 있어요’를

주의사항
‐ Only verbs are posited as the predicate of a sentence. Teachers should ensure
that learners do not use the form, Noun + 예요/이에요.
서술어는 반드시 동사만 쓰인다. 학습자들이 ‘명사 + 예요/이에요’와 함께 쓰
지 않도록 주의한다.
‐ ‘에서’ is used to indicate the starting point when directional verbs such as
‘오다, 떠나다’ are used.
‘오다, 떠나다’ 등의 동사가 함께 쓰일 때는 ‘에서’의 의미가 동작의 출발점을
나타내는 의미를 가진다.

N을/를 [particle that indicates object of sentence]
A noun marked with the particle ‘을’ or ‘를’ is the object of the sentence. If
the noun ends in a consonant, ‘을’ must be used. If the noun ends in a vowel,
‘를’ must be used.
명사 뒤에 붙어서 그 명사가 서술어의 목적임을 나타낼 때 사용한다. 명사가
자음으로 끝날 경우에는 ‘을’을 사용하고, 명사가 모음으로 끝날 경우에는 ‘를’을
사용한다.

주의 사항
‐ The pronunciation of ‘좋아하다’ is [조아하다]. When the final consonant
‘ㅎ’ is followed by the silent consonant ‘ㅇ’, ‘ㅎ’ is not pronounced.
받침 ‘ㅎ’ + 모음에서는 ‘ㅎ’은 탈락하고 발음한다. 따라서 ‘좋아하다’는 ‘조아
하다’가 된다.
‐ When a syllable ends in double consonants ‘ㅀ’ and is followed by the silent
consonant ‘ㅇ’, ‘ㅎ’ is omitted and ‘ㄹ’ is shifted to the next syllable and
pronounced as the initial sound of the next syllable.
‘싫어하다’의 발음은 [시러하다]가 되는데 받침 ‘ㅀ’ 다음에 모음이 오면 ‘ㅎ’
소리는 탈락시키고 ‘ㄹ’소리는 다음 음절의 첫소리로 발음한다.

The particle ‘에’ indicates time when it is attached to a time noun, such as
‘시’ and ‘분’.
조사 ‘에’는 시간을 나타내는 명사 뒤에서 때를 표현할 때 사용한다.
주의 사항
‐ The particle ‘에’ is not attached to nouns such as ‘어제, 오늘, 내일’.
‐ ‘어제, 오늘, 내일’ 등의 명사에는 조사 ‘에’가 붙지 않는다.

‘제’ is a contracted form of ‘저의’ and the humble form of the first person
possessive pronoun, ‘내(my)’. The humble form ‘제’ should be used if the
listener is older than the speaker.
‘제’는 ‘저의’의 준말로 1인칭 대명사 ‘내’를 낮추는 표현이다. 말하는 사람보다
나이가 많거나 어른과 대화할 때 자신을 가리키는 표현이다.

1과 우리 가족입니다
- 습니다
동사나 형용사 뒤에 붙어서 말하는 사람이 듣는 사람에게 설명할 때 사용한다.
공식적인 상황에서 주로 사용한다.
In formal situations, a declarative sentence takes the ending –습니다. It is
attached to the end of verb or adjective stems.
- 습니까?
동사나 형용사 뒤에 붙어서 말하는 사람이 듣는 사람에게 물어볼 때 사용한다.

2과 나는 강아지를 좋아해요
무슨
명사 앞에 붙어서 무엇인지 물을 때 사용한다.
무슨 is attached in front of nouns to ask for specific information.
- 을/를 좋아하다
명사 뒤에 붙어서 어떤 일이나 사물을 좋아한다는 뜻으로 사용한다.
-을/를 following a noun is used as an object particle. -을/를 좋아하다 means
to like someone or something.
4과 음악회에 자주 안 가요
안
동사 앞에 붙어서 부정의 뜻을 나타낼 때 사용한다.
안 is placed in front of verbs to negate the meaning.

ㄷ 불규칙 동사 (ㄷ irregular verbs)
‘듣다, 걷다, 묻다(질문하다)’ 다음에 모음으로 시작하는 어미가 올 때 받침 ‘ㄷ'
이 ‘ㄹ’로 바뀐다. 이와 같은 동사를 ‘ㄷ 불규칙 동사’라고 한다.
Some verbs have stems ending in ㄷ (듣다, 걷다, 묻다). When these types of
verbs combine with vowel endings, the ㄷ changes to ㄹ.
5과 내 취미는 야구하기예요
-기
동사의 어간 뒤에 붙어 동사를 명사로 바꿀 때 사용한다.
–기 added at the end of a verb stem is used to change a verb to a noun. It is
like a gerund in English.

사람을 나타내는 명사 뒤에 쓰여 어떤 일을 같이 함을 나타낼 때 사용한다.
The particle ~하고 attached to a noun (a person or an animal) is the same as
“with” in English.
7과 나는 야구도 좋아해요

명사 뒤에 붙어서 어떤 대상이나 상황에 더해짐을 나타낼 때 사용한다.
The particle ~도 attached to a noun means “also” or “in addition.”
그리고
대등한 두 문장을 나란히 나열할 때 사용한다.
그리고 is used to connect corresponding words, phrases, clauses, and sentences.
8과 도서관에 자주 가요
하지만
서로 일치하지 않거나 반대가 되는 두 문장을 이어줄 때 사용한다.

ㅂ 불규칙 동사
동사 ‘돕다, 줍다’, 형용사 ‘귀엽다, 아름답다, 춥다, 덥다’ 다음에 모음으로 시작
하는 어미가 올 때 받침 ‘ㅂ’이 ‘ㅗ/ㅜ’로 바뀐다. 이와 같은 동사를 ‘ㅂ 불규칙 동
사’ 라고 한다. 동사 ‘돕다’와 형용사 ‘곱다’만 ‘ㅗ’가 쓰여 ‘도와’, ‘고와’로 바뀌고
나머지는 모두 ‘ㅜ’가 쓰여 ‘귀여워’, ‘아름다워’, ‘추워’, ‘더워’로 바뀐다.
Verbs and adjectives with stems ending in ㅂ are irregular. When these words
are followed by vowel endings such as –아요/-어요 , the ㅂis replaced with ㅗ
or ㅜ. In the case of verbs 돕다 and 곱다, ㅂ is replaced with ㅗ (돕다 + -아요
→ 도와, 곱다 + -아요 → 고와). In the case of verbs such as 귀엽다, 아름답다, 춥
다, and 덥다, ㅂ is replaced with ㅜ (귀엽다 + -어요 → 귀여워, 아름답다 + -어
요 → 아름다워, 춥다 + -어요 → 추워, 덥다 + -어요 → 더워).
그래서
원인과 결과가 되는 두 문장을 연결할 때 사용한다.
그래서 connects two sentences to address cause and effect.

~이/가 되다
명사 뒤에 쓰여 새로운 신분이나 지위를 가지게 됨을 나타낼 때 사용한다.
~이/가 되다 is attached to a noun to express a new position or status.
-고 싶다
동사 뒤에 붙어서 희망이나 바람을 표현할 때 사용한다.
-고 싶다 is attached to a verb stem to express desire.
~와/과
명사 사이에 쓰여 앞뒤에 놓인 명사들을 연결하는 기능을 한다.
~와/과 is placed between two nouns to connect them.
4과 연극은 몇 시에 시작해요?
전에/후에
시간을 나타내는 명사 뒤에 쓰여 ‘그 시간보다 먼저’ 또는‘그 시간이 지난 뒤에’
의 뜻을 나타낸다.
전에/후에 is placed after a time noun to express “before/ after.”
마다
‘빠짐없이 모두’의 뜻을 나타낸다. 시간을 나타내는 명사 뒤에 주로 쓴다.
마다 is usually attached to a time noun to express the “each or every.”

(1) AV+겠
의향이나 의지, 추측을 나타내는 선어말어미이다. 주어가 1인칭일 경우에는 화
자의 의지를 나타낸다. AV동사와 결합하거나 3인칭이 주어일 때는 화자의 강한
추측을 나타내기도 한다. 그리고 동사 어간에 붙어서 미래 시제를 나타내는 경
우도 있다.
This pre-final ending indicates the future tense. It is attached onto the verb
stem before the verb ending. It expresses the will of the speaker when the subject
is the 1st person.
(2) AV/DV+고
두 가지 이상의 대등한 사실을 나열할 때 사용한다. 그런데 ‘DV+고’는 행위를
시간 순서에 따라 연결할 때 사용한다.
It is an ending connecting a preceding clause with a following clause equally,

(2) N+께서
주어가 높여야 할 사람(예: 부모님, 선생님)일 때 주격 조사 ‘이/가’ 대신 높임
의 주격 조사 ‘께서’를 사용한다.
When the subject of a sentence is a person who must be honored, the subjective
particle ‘께서’ replaces the normal particle ‘이/가’.
(1) N+한테
‘주다, 보내다, 말하다’ 등의 동사와 함께 쓰여서 대상을 나타낸다. ‘한테’는 구

야 하는 사람인 경우에는 ‘께’를 사용한다.

뒤에 오는 절의 내용을 이끌어 내기 위해서 관련된 상황을 설명할 때 사용한다.

listener may respond with ‘-(으)ㅂ시다’, thereby agreeing with the suggestion.
Verbs with stems ending in a consonant take ‘-을까요?’ while those ending in a
vowel take ‘-ㄹ까요?’

‘또는(or)’의 의미를 갖는 접속 조사이다. 둘 이상의 대상 중 하나를 선택할 때
사용한다.

문법
(1) AV+기 전에
뒤 절의 동작이나 사건이 앞 절의 동작·사건 전에 이루어질 때 사용한다. 영
어에서 절을 이끄는 ‘before’의 의미를 갖는다. 시제 선어말어미는 ‘-기 전에’ 앞
에 결합될 수 없다.
‘-기 전에’ leads clauses starting with ‘before’. It is used when a movement
or an event of the following clause has to be done before the movement or the
event of the preceding clause. The tense marker cannot be used for the preceding
clause.
(3) AV/DV+아/어야 되다
어떤 동작이나 상태를 성취, 충족하기 위한 필요 조건을 나타낸다. 영어 ‘should’,
‘have to’, ‘must’의 의미를 갖는다.
This expression means ‘should’, ‘have to’, or ‘must’. It is used to mean a
necessary condition in order to accomplish some movements or some state.

앞에 있는 절을 뒤에 오는 절과 대등하게 연결하는 어미이다. 동작동사, 상태동

건이나 상태를 동시에 나열하는 의미가 있다. 만약 앞뒤 절의 시제가 같으면 시
제 표지는 뒤에 있는 절의 동사에 붙는 경향이 있다.
