Important Qualities of a Good Supervisor

A supervisor plays a huge impact in an organization as he/she helps to oversee that

subordinates deliver the amount of production assigned to them. This paper explores why good

communication skills and good planning, are qualities of a good supervisor.

Good communication skills are important qualities of a good supervisor. Notably good

communication is achieved by supervisors through, giving constructive feedback to employees

regarding their performance and behavior in the workplace (De Masi, 2019). Good

communication from supervisors also helps to ensure that workers not only play the roles

assigned to them but also makes them do quality work due to clear communication. Essentially a

good supervisor must also be in a position to comprehend whatever information the subordinates

might try to pass on to him. In summary, a good supervisor should have good communication

skills to efficiently pass messages and feedback to staff.

Planning is an important quality of a good supervisor. A good supervisor is one who is able

to do good planning which includes controlling, organizing and directing (Levitt, 2020).

Planning mostly involves the supervisor distributing and dividing work amongst the workers.

Work should be distributed according to a worker’s talents and skills; this help ensure that

production is maximized. Planning plays a major part on how a project works and if the goals

and objectives of a project are met. A good supervisor should have the ability to achieve any

goals and objectives through proper planning.

In conclusion a good supervisor has to be able to have good communication skills as this is

essential in distribution of roles and information. The ability to plan is also a major quality in a

good supervisor as work can only be quality where good planning is involved.
