It Always Need To Start With One

As a child, I seemed to have been bored by the cultural, religious, and traditional
soirees that were frequently held in our community and the society at large. I ran, instead, to
my grandmother to ask her to read me stories from the lives of the saints as an alternative
diversion. Musical performances or as they call it ‘pabasa’, and other religious meetings, a
form of entertainment that the older members of the family provided for the guests, were not
to my liking.
Things religious had a special attraction for me from the earliest youth. I speak of the
delight he took in attending church services at the St. Rose of Lima Parish, fascination with
the ceremonies, the games that I devised to imitate them at home, the penetrating questions
he asked about the meaning of all that I experienced or was taught about my religion and
religious domain.
And from there, I was able to realize that my mission was created without me even
knowing it. My mission is to center my faith and doings in God alone. I may not have
realized that, as a young adult or as a kid, I was not the type of Christian who would sing
before images of holy figures but I was the one who tells my friends not to cheat during
exams, to let the disabled occupy the seat before me, and to give back to poor when I am
capable. I was able to realize that I embody the values and goals of a true Christian and son of
God.
In our local parish, the St. Rose of Lima, I have laid down a few tweaks to make our
mission theocentric. This includes further strengthening of our faith but not disregarding
traditional beliefs and customs. A brother and sister In Christ is a teacher by profession.
Consequently, we must constantly seek to improve ourselves through study and personal
reflection so as to be able to carry out His duties with greater competence. We must live in
union with God, and through prayer and community life, we can acquire the strength to carry
out his ministry as an educator to bring everyone closer to God.

Also, we must touch the lives of both the young and poor. We must speak to them of
God, teach them the truths of faith and help them to live their lives as Christians, leading
them to the knowledge and love of God so that they grow constantly in the faith. We need to
show care and concern for all the young entrusted to us by God, but a special love for the
poorer kids, since they have more need of help.

That is a mission to and for the love of God. One which we must live by with hearts
open. A mission powered by a greater mission.
