Definition of Terms

Upskilling - Upskilling is a workplace trend that facilitates continuous learning by providing training
programs and development opportunities that expand an employee's abilities and minimize skill gaps

Conceptual Design - Conceptual design is a framework for establishing the underlying idea behind a
design and a plan for how it will be expressed visually. It is related to the term “concept art”, which is an
illustration (often used in the preproduction phase of a film or a video game) that conveys the vision of
the artist for how the final product might take form. Similarly, conceptual design occurs early on in the
design process, generally before fine details such as exact color choices or illustration style.

Employers Perception - is a process by which individuals organize and interpret their sensory
impressions in order to give meaning to their environment. Perception is not necessarily based on
reality, but is merely a perspective from a particular individual‟s view of a situation. In dealing with the
concept of organizational behavior, perception becomes important because „people‟s behavior is based
on their perception of what reality is, not on reality itself; the world as it is perceived is the world that is
behaviorally important. Human nature can be very simple, yet very complex too. An understanding and
appreciation of this is no pre-requisite to effective employee perception in the workplace and therefore
effective management and leadership.

Confederation of British Industry - The term Confederation of British Industry (CBI) refers to a nonprofit
organization that lobbies on behalf of businesses in the United Kingdom on national and international
issues. Founded in July 1965 by a Royal Charter, the CBI's mission is to contribute to and promote the
sustainable progress of U.K. businesses and industry. It also aims to help domestic businesses grow and
help mitigate their risks. The CBI is fully funded by fees paid by member businesses as well as the
products and services it sells.

The World Chemical Engineering Council - Chemical engineering and related sciences will play a key
role in meeting future societal needs. To ensure a high standard of chemical engineering and related
science and technology, a World Chemical Engineering Council (WCEC) has been formed.

Methodical Approach - A methodical approach for understanding and applying standards, cleaning
processes testing, and establishing a routine monitoring program for contaminants are key elements in
validating an environmentally controlled manufacturing facility. In the last few years, challenges to the
medical device manufacturing community have increased and so have performance expectations. And
with the ever-decreasing size of medical devices, these expectations are becoming more difficult to
meet.

Scientific Method - mathematical and experimental technique employed in the sciences. More
specifically, it is the technique used in the construction and testing of a scientific hypothesis. The process
of observing, asking questions, and seeking answers through tests and experiments is not unique to any
one field of science. In fact, the scientific method is applied broadly in science, across many different
fields
Modification – If you want to change something in other words, modify it you need to make a
modification. Computer programs need modification all the time, because of new products or viruses.
When you think of the word modification, think “change.”

Applications for IT research and/or practice

Upskilling is the process of enhancing current employees' skill sets, usually through training, so that they
can advance in their employment and pursue other roles and possibilities within the firm. Upskilling is a
workplace idea that encourages employees to learn for the rest of their lives by providing opportunities
for training and development that widen their skills and close skill gaps. As technology provides new
opportunities and employment positions in the workplace, it is becoming increasingly critical for
businesses to fill these new positions with people who have the necessary specialized skills.
Organizations can close the digital talent gap and fill these unfilled positions by upskilling their
employees. Upskilling enables businesses to bridge the digital talent gap and fill available roles while
retaining their present workforce and providing possibilities for employee growth and development.

The COVID-19 epidemic hastened the shift to an online/remote environment, with a higher emphasis on
digital and technical skills, necessitating the “upskilling” of staff. Higher education institutions are
responsible for developing new certificates and courses and have the opportunity to do so. These
courses might be packaged as self-contained certificates that people who need to “upskill” in order to
keep their employment or advance in their careers could take.

The way most businesses work is rapidly changing due to technological advancements. Companies and
their employees must constantly update their technical knowledge and skill sets as a result of this.
Companies are obliged to either locate new personnel or fill the gap through upskilling when job needs
change and new abilities are required. Companies can save money by boosting the competencies of
their current employees rather than investing time and money on employing new staff by upskilling
them. Furthermore, today’s workers expect more from their jobs than just a steady paycheck and a
pleasant working atmosphere.

Exogenous credentials with access to higher positions and greater job security are in increasing demand
and more urgent at the post-baccalaureate and post-graduate levels. In the IT, health sciences,
aerospace, and automotive industries, this is already achievable due to credential stacking and the
utilization of routes. Whatever path is chosen, offerings must lead to credentials that are widely
recognized and acknowledged, not only by one business. The offerings must lead to credentials that are
widely recognized and approved rather than only by a particular business, and the structure must lead
to a greater assurance of better paying jobs. Regardless of the path taken, the offerings must lead to
credentials that are widely recognized and accepted rather than just by a single employer, and the
structure must lead to a greater assurance of better-paying jobs and career advancement, ensuring not
just employability and relevance in the first job but for the rest of one’s life.
