T-test (Two Sample Assuming Unequal Variance)

Interpretation
1. Because Analyst 1 and 4 differ from Analyst 3 and 2 have significant differences while Analyst 3
and 2 have no significant differences.
2. Analyst1 differs from Analyst 4 because Analyst 1 has three significant differences compound to
Analyst 4 with only one significant difference.

Hypotheses
a) Nitrogen samples prepared by decomposition of various nitrogen compounds is just the same
with the nitrogen samples prepared by removing oxygen from air.
Ha: Nitrogen samples prepared by decomposition of various nitrogen compounds is greater than the
nitrogen samples prepared by removing oxygen from air.

Interpretation
1. T-test is less than t-crit, therefore, there is no significant difference between nitrogen samples
prepared by decomposition of various nitrogen compounds and those prepared by removing
oxygen from air.

Discussion: The given problem is an independent one and use an independent type of t-test because:
A. The observations are sampled independently
B. The independent variables consist of two independent groups.
The analysts differ at the 95%, 99% and 99.9% confidence level because the result of their ftest is higher
than their fcrit. If Ftest is greater than Fcrit, therefore, there is a significant difference.
2. What are the chances of conclusion being in error?
The chances of the conclusion being an error refers to the confidence level. If you use the 95% confidence
level your chance of having an error is 5 %, if you use 90% it is 10%, and if 99% confidence level the
chance of having an error is only 1%.
Anova (Single Factor)
A. State the appropriate hypotheses:
Ha: Analyst 1= Analyst 2 = Analyst 3 = Analyst 4
Ha: Analyst 1 ≠ Analyst 2 ≠ Analyst 3 ≠ Analyst 4
B. Do the analyses differ out the 95 % confidence level (Fcrit = 0.95) At the 99.9% confidence
level? At the 99.9 % confidence level (Fcrit=10.80)?
Therefore, Analyses do not differ / have no significant differences at the 95%, 99% and 99.9% confidence
level because their ftest is greater than their fcrit.
c. Do the analysts differ "at" 95% confidence level?
Interpretation of Data:
1. Analysts 1 and 4 differ from Analyst 3 and 2 because Analyst 1 and 4 have significant
differences while Analyst 3 and 2 have no significant differences.

3. Analyst 1 differs from analyst 4 because Analyst 1 has three significant differences compared to
Analyst 4 with only one significant difference.
Anova (Single Factor)
A. State the appropriate hypotheses:
Ha: Analyst 1= Analyst 2 = Analyst 3 = Analyst 4
Ha: Analyst 1 ≠ Analyst 2 ≠ Analyst 3 ≠ Analyst 4
B. Do the analyses differ at the 95 % confidence level (Fcrit = 0.95) At the 99.9% confidence level? At
the 99.9 % confidence level (Fcrit=10.80)?
The analysts differ at the 95% confidence level, at the 99% confidence level (Fcrit = 5.95) and at the
99.9% confidence level (10.80) because their Ftest is higher than their Fcrit. When Ftest is greater
than Fcrit, therefore, there is a significant difference.
c. Do the analysts differ at the 95% confidence level?
Interpretation of Data:
1. Analysts 1 and 4 differ from Analyst 3 and 2 because Analyst 1 and 4 have significant differences
while Analyst 3 and 2 have no significant differences.
2. Analyst 1 differs from analyst 4 because Analyst 1 has three significant differences compared to
Analyst 4 with only one significant difference.
