Lesson Plan Format

Name: Courtney Marquez

Grade: TK/K Subject/Content: Math/Shapes Time length of Lesson: 25

Instructional Resources
List all the special materials you’ll need for the lesson, including teacher and student materials.
iPads, Seesaw App, shape resource wall
Concept(s)
State the “big idea” that all students will acquire or develop.
Students will discover and learn the different components of shapes and use the Seesaw app to support and apply
their learning.
Alignment with Standards
What standard(s) does this lesson teach to? Think in terms of both State and District standards.

CCSS.K.G.A.1 Identify and describe shapes.

CCSS.K.G.A.2 Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.

Objectives
Using observable verbs, list the student behaviors you expect to result from the lesson. What,
specifically, are the desired learning outcomes?

Content: Identify shapes in the real world and apply different understandings of a shape into
the Seesaw app.

Language: Students will learn what the Seesaw App is. They will learn what it is to match a
2D shape to a real-world 3D shape.
Assessment
How will you monitor understanding throughout the lesson? How will you assess the students to
assure that the objectives were met? How will you determine what else they learned, such as changes
in their attitudes? Remember to vary your use of assessment techniques (i.e., informal as well as
formal methods should be included here). Remember to include opportunities for student self-
assessment as well.

Students will be informally assessed during the activity lesson. Students will need to show their
progress before they move onto the next students turn in the lesson activity. I will intervene as needed.
Students will submit their findings and knowledge within the Seesaw App.

Vocabulary/Literacy Skills
Identify the vocabulary/literacy skills (listening, speaking, reading, writing) to be learned/reinforced.
Identify specific vocabulary (including academic language) to be developed by English-dominant,
English only, and English language learners.
 2D Shapes
 3D Shapes

Name of Instructional Model

Your procedure will look different depending on the model of instruction (e.g., cooperative learning,
direct instruction, inquiry, etc.) being used. Give specific details throughout the lesson, such as
strategies for setting and maintaining a positive learning environment, room arrangement, student
groupings, and classroom management techniques. Include accommodations and/or modifications
based on student needs specified.

Direct teaching and cooperative learning. Lesson/activity rules include walking feet and showing me
their progress on the Ipad in the Seesaw app before they can move onto the next component of the
lesson to complete with their group.
Procedure
A. Focus/Motivation (Open) (Time estimate: 5 )
How will you gain students’ attention, build interest in the lesson, and introduce the topic? How will
you set expectations for learning?

I will model finding a shape in the room and using the Seesaw app to record my findings. I
will model using the draw tool in Seesaw, take a picture in Seesaw, and record a video of
myself in Seesaw. We will discuss the activity/lesson rules such as using walking feet and
quiet classroom voices.

B. Development (Body) (Time estimate: 17)

How will you develop the content related to your objective? Who’s going to do what and when? How
will you support interaction with the subject matter and materials? Include some questions you might
ask when the lesson is going on (you may be surprised how difficult it is to remember what you
intended to ask when everything is happening).

Students will walk around the room to find real-world shapes within our classroom. Students
will work with a group and have different roles to complete the activity lesson. One student
will be responsible for taking a picture of the shape they find with their group. Another
students will be responsible for drawing (replicating) the shape they find by drawing in the
Seesaw app. Another student will be responsible for recording a video of themselves
describing the shape such has by saying, “The shape we found is a clock. It is a circle shape
and it has zero sides.” Q: How many sides does your shape have?

C. Closure (Close) (Time estimate: 3 )

How will you bring the lesson to a close? How will you have students identify what the lesson’s
learning was?

Students will check with me before officially submitting their group work in Seesaw and meeting back
at our circle rug. I will have a few students come up to share their findings around the classroom.
