A. It is important that...
Te.g. For my first argument i would like to talk about
how It is important for students to not be distracted by
romance, so they can focus on studying.

B. It is very likely that...

e.g. On the 2nd argument, i would like to adress that
It's unlikely that students who are in a relationship will
be able to perform well academically.

CONVINCE THE JUDGES THAT WHAT YOU'RE SAYING
MAKES SENSE LOGICALLY
CONVINCE THE JUDGES THAT YOUR ARGUMENT
IS CORRECT
EXPLAIN HOW AND WHY THE BENEFIT OR HARMS THAT
YOU MENTIONED WILL HAPPEN

e.g. "How will this potion make us focus on academics?"

Students normally get distracted by being in a relationship,

as they would spend their time dating instead of studying.
However, if we drink this potion, we couldn't possibly fall in
love, so we wouldn't spend our time worrying about romance,
thus having more time to focus on academics.

SO WHAT IF OUR ARGUMENT IS TRUE? WHY ARE THEY

IMPORTANT?
WHAT WILL HAPPEN IF OUR ARGUMENT IS CORRECT? HOW
WILL THESE HARMS/BENEFITS IMPACT US?
EXPLAIN THE SHORT TERM AND LONG TERM EFFECT

e.g. "Why is it important to focus on academics?"

If we don't have enough time to study, it would impact our

scores. This is harmful because it good scores are essential
for getting into a good college. If we don't get into a good
college, it will be hard to get a good job, thus we might end
up in poverty in the future.

ARGUE THAT A CERTAIN BENEFIT WILL ONLY EXIST ON

OUR SIDE
ARGUE THAT A CERTAIN HARM WILL ONLY EXIST ON YOUR
OPPONENT'S SIDE

e.g. "Why is focusing on academics only possible if we're

not in a relationship?"

It is true that people in relationship can still study. However,

only in our side of the debate, where we will have less
distraction. So, even though students can study on both
sides, they will have more time to study effectively.
Evidence
A. Hypothetical Evidence

B. Generics/Facts
e.g. Teenagers in Southern Jakarta are usually seen
hanging out with their couple, and they usually get bad
scores.

C. Special Evidence
e.g. In October 5th 2003, there was a study by UNESCO
that teenagers in a relationship are more likely to
perform unwell academically.
Linkback
Reassert your argument, and link it to the
goal of the debate.

e.g. Because of this argument and evidence,

we strongly believe that it is important for us
to not drink this potion, so we can focus on
our academics, to secure our future.
THAT'S ALL,

THANK YOU
For your attention!
