4th and 5th 6th

Wiglaf went near to Beowulf and Beowulf was dying and it was like leaving his last will.
Beowulf saying that he can die there because he thinks that he give his all to serve his people
and fight for them. He was thankful because seems like his greatest pride is to never kill his own
kin. And he asked Wiglaf to bring him the treasures of the dragon.

is about Beowulf finally killing the Dragon. Wiglaf took his courage to help him. Wiglaf stabs
the dragon somewhere in his chest. Beowulf uses a dagger to cut the Dragon in half,
therefore, killing it. The wound on Beowulf’s neck began to swell and grow. He could feel
something stirring, burning in his veins, a stinging poison. So Beowulf was poisoned by the
dragon because during anglo Saxons dragons are poisonous. He was about to die and was
like leaving his last will to Wiglaf. He asked Wiglaf to find the dragon’s treasure and bring it to
him. Beowulf’s dying his greatest pride is that he never killed his own kin.

Chapter 38

7th and 8th

Wiglaf went quickly to the tower to get the treasures. Wiglaft saw every treasure of the dragon
and he took everything that pleased his eyes.

9th
Wiglaft went back to Beowulf running and hoping that his king does not die yet.

10th
Beowulf thanking God by his grace and he asked Wiglaf to lead the people. He also asked
Wiglaf to create a tomb for him.

11th and 12th

Beowulf before he dies gives Wiglaf his armor and golden necklace which means Wiglaf is now
the king of Geat Land.

is about Wiglaf bringing Beowulf riches from the castle. Wiglaft took every treasure that
pleased his eyes. He rushed to Beowulf hoping that his king has not died yet. Wiglaf tries
his best to keep Beowulf alive. He sprinkled him water. While holding the treasure,
Beowulf thank the father in heaven for giving his grace. He asked Wiglaf to lead his
people. And have the bravest Geats build him a tomb and place it at the water edge
where he was. And call it Beowulf’s tower. Beowulf before he dies gives Wiglaf his armor
and golden necklace which means Wiglaf is now the king of Geat Land.

(Interpretation) So one of the interpretations of this chapter is like the author showing us that
death is something that we cannot avoid. Beowulf has shields and weapons so we can think
that it represents medicines or the exercises that we do just to maintain our good health. So
Beowulf despite having a shield he died anyway because the shield was just like his protection
but it cannot guarantee that it will protect him forever. Just like the medications and the things
that we do just to prolong our lives, there is no certainty that we will live longer. Also, it shows
that when you are struggling your family is someone that you can count on. Just like what Wiglaf
did. Beowulf can die peacefully because he knows that Wiglaf will continue his legacy.

Chapter 39

13th and 14th

Wiglaf was left alone with Beowulf's corpse. He thinks about the things that were happened. He
seems like reminiscing how brave Beowulf is and his journey in killing the dragon.

15th
The men who betrayed Beowulf showed up in front of Wiglaf.

16th and 17th

Wiglaf speak up called the followers of Beowulf cowards and traitors because they gave them a
gift like swords, armors, helmets, and shirts but when the real danger occurs they dropped their
weapons and run like a coward.

18th
Now that Wiglaft will give riches to the Geats these followers who betrayed Beowulf would
receive nothing.

Is about Wiglaf that was left alone with Beowulf's corpse. He thinks about the things that
were happened. He seems like reminiscing how brave Beowulf is and his journey in
killing the dragon. Beowulf's men who fled come out; Wiglaf brands them as a coward
because they gave them a gift like swords, armors, helmets, and shirts but when the real
danger occurs they dropped their weapons and run like a coward. Now that Wiglaft will
give riches to the Geats these followers who betrayed Beowulf would receive nothing.

(Interpretation) So it shows betrayal. The 12 greatest of warriors chosen by Beowulf deserve

an exile.
Chapter 40 and 41
Wiglaf sends a rider to the village at geat land to get some people to come help bury
Beowulf’s body and build that tower he was talking about as he died and so they come
but the messenger then tells the whole history of the story of geat land. He talks about
the fights with the swedes and then he says that they can expect more with the swedes.

Chapter 42

19th and 20th

It is about the Geats locking up the treasure inside the castle that the dragon was guarding and
having the spell that whoever stole the jewel will suffer from hell.

21th
Wiglaf spoke that Beowulf is worth more than those golds. He speaks to the geats about how he
witnesses everything in conquering those golds and He greeted the people according to
Beowulf’s will.

22th
He allowed the Geats to enter the tower to see the treasures and ask the geats to get the pyre
ready because after burning Beowulfs body they should put his ashes in the tower and make it
the tallest tower and his tomb.

23 and 24
Wiglaf commanded the geats warriors to collect woods for Beowulf’s funeral. And he takes
seven nobles geats and went to the tunnel deep to the dragon’s tower to get gold that they will
put on Beowulf’s body. They roll the dragon off the cliff into the ocean.

Whoever stole their jewels,

Their gold, would be cursed with the flames of hell,
Heaped high with sin and guilt, If greed
Was what brought him: God alone could break
Their magic, open His grace to man.

(interpretation) Anyone who seeks the treasure out of greed will burn in hell. Only those who
enter the treasure room without seeking the treasure for its own sake, as well as those who are
good, the best, and the purest of the geats, are permitted to touch the treasure. So, if the
treasure represents heaven, the idea here is that you can't acquire it by being greedy; you can't
get it by wanting it.

Chapter 43

is the last chapter in Beowulf. They finish building the pyre and hang helmets and armor
on it along with jewels. They have built the tower tall and strong. Also, a woman sings a
song of misery. So in the end, 12 geats ride horses around Beowulf’s tomb singing his
songs of life. They are prasing Beowulf crying and mourning.

So in the story, I think I should be Wiglaf because even though Wiglaf does not have the power
he took the courage to fight the dragon. He is the one who helps Beowulf to slay the dragon and
I think Beowulf would not have won if Wiglaf did not help him. He did what he has to do. And I
think this last part saying that we have to do the right thing and we have to stand with it. We
should make a difference and take the courage to stand up.
