Example of Elegy

This is a more contemporary example of elegy, and it is interesting in that it is written for a horse.
Maxine Kumin includes all aspects of loss in her poem, yet in reverse. The poem opens with a happy
scene of contentment, and then the poet’s mind wanders back to the winter in which her horse Jack
displayed noble qualities. She finally ends with the pain and grief of having sold Jack and never
knowing what happened to.

Example of Epigram

Blake wrote poetry about his existential and religious concepts during his times. The above
quotation, from Auguries of Innocence, became very popular. The poem is packed with punch lines,
and the poet has laid great emphasis on the concept

Example of Ballad

Edgar Allen Poe’s tragic poem “Annabel Lee” is a ballad that also deviates slightly from traditional
ballads. However, there are some key features such as the narrative about lost love and beautiful
natural imagery that make is so that it can be labelled a ballad example. Poe also uses repetition and
regular rhyme scheme so that the poem could be set to music if someone wished
