Rationale for Study

For many years, people in the Western World and all over have been fascinated by the Inca of

Peru. The Inca, spelled as Inka and sometimes known as Tiwantinsuya or the 'Land of the Four

Quarters' are not known in terms of their origin or where they came from. Although they share

some similarities with other people such as the ancient Egyptians, a legend claims that they

survived devastating floods by hiding in a hollow in the peak of a high mountain.

Although the Inca Empire did not last for so many years as it survived for only 100 years,

between 1438 and 1533 AD, there are a lot of things which are interesting for one to learn from

the empire in terms of their politics, inventions, technology, people, religion, cultural symbols,

food, customs, and arts. These are the areas that connect me to this society and motivate me to

carry out research to find out more.

Having studied about the Incan Empire and found out more about how they ruled the majority of

South America before the entry of the Spanish, I dug deeper for information about the Incan

society and what made them stand out among other civilizations that existed at the time. Indeed,

the research was motivated by the need to find out how Incas organized themselves, their way of

live and political organization that gave them superiority over others in the region. Accordingly,

this study seeks to demystify the secrets and clarify some aspects that are not well known about

the Incan society and how they conquered lands in South America. The resultant information

will be crucial in making a comparison of Inca Empire and other empires in terms of their

political, social, economic and technological advancements.
